Chapter 1388: I want to go myself
Chapter 1388: I want to go myself
Bai Yiyi bumped into Jing Xiaocha at the corner of the staircase. Bai Yiyi was going upstairs, and Jing Xiaocha was holding some documents while descending. The two nearly collided.
“Ah! Sister Yiyi, I’m so sorry, so sorry!”
Jing Xiaocha hurriedly apologized. Bai Yiyi smiled indifferently, “What are you rushing for? There’s no one chasing you from behind.”
“I think I might have upset President Wen.” Jing Xiaocha glanced back, a hint of guilt subtly showing on her confused face.
Bai Yiyi raised an eyebrow, watching her expressive face. “You, the ever-thoughtful assistant, actually managed to anger the big boss? Tell me, how did you piss him off?”
“Sister Wen came by. Earlier, President Wen asked me to warm a glass of milk and bring it in, but I had something I wanted to discuss with Sister Wen first. Then President Wen looked at me unhappily.”
“That’s where you went wrong. Ranran rarely visits the factory, but President Wen hasn’t even had a chance to say a few words to her. And you took priority instead! Let me tell you secretly, too many people compete with President Wen over his sister. You’re usually so clever—how could you make such a mistake?”
Bai Yiyi reached out and lightly tapped Jing Xiaocha’s forehead. She let out an exaggerated cry, “Who’d dare compete with President Wen for his sister?”
“Figure it out yourself.” Bai Yiyi ignored Jing Xiaocha’s puzzled and conflicted expression. Her phone started ringing, and she headed up the stairs, reaching for her phone to answer the call.
“Hello?”
“I’ve got the evidence. It was Wei Jingshan.”
“What?”
Bai Yiyi couldn’t immediately respond, she froze for two seconds before asking, “You found the evidence?”
That Wei Jingshan really is despicable.
“Yes, I’ve already obtained part of it. Qing Feng hasn’t returned yet, but I informed Mo Xiuchen. Once things are settled on his end, it’ll be handled.”
Because the last thing Wei Jingshan said to Madam Qian was whispered into her ear in such a hushed tone that even though Madam Qian had a recording, those critical words were missing.
“Have you informed Fang Zhiwei?” Bai Yiyi hesitated for a moment before softly asking.
“Not yet. I just came out of the operating room, and as soon as I received the news, I called you first. I’ll tell her later, after Qing Feng gathers more evidence.”
Across the phone line, Gu Kai’s voice was calm and soothing. Perhaps it was just her imagination, but Bai Yiyi sensed a subtle implication—that he might be suggesting she was more important than Fang Zhiwei.
Afraid this might worry her, he decided to inform her first.
Realizing her own ridiculous thoughts, Bai Yiyi frowned instinctively and dismissed the idea, allowing her tone to grow a bit cooler. “Understood. I still have work to do, I’ll hang up now.”
“Alright.”
Gu Kai didn’t say anything further, only responding gently and waiting for her to end the call.
After hanging up, Gu Kai replayed the recording he had, listening to it again. His dark eyes grew colder as he dialed Lu Zhiyan’s number.
***
Wei Jingshan was in a good mood today.
Because tomorrow she would be heading into the operating room as Qiu Wei’s assistant. This was a hard-won opportunity.
Although working with Qiu Chuan wasn’t her preference, she had to admit that Qiu Wei treated her extremely well, giving her every possible opportunity.
Of course, this couldn’t be separated from Wei Jingshan’s flattering behavior. Gu Kai didn’t fall for such tactics, but Qiu Wei definitely did.
Humming a tune, she walked out of the restroom. She looked up and saw Gu Kai walking from the corridor’s corner. Wei Jingshan’s expression shifted slightly but quickly softened into a smile.
“Doctor Gu.”
She feigned innocence and purity.
Such purity—women might innately detect the disguise, but most men couldn’t perceive the deception.
“Wei Jingshan.”
Gu Kai stopped walking, his tall and upright figure standing before her. His dark eyes carried an unfathomable depth.
Upon hearing his voice, Wei Jingshan’s heart skipped a beat involuntarily.
She looked up, caught his gaze momentarily, and then quickly looked away. His imposing aura overwhelmed her, giving her a sense of intense pressure.
She pursed her lips, asking in confusion, “Doctor Gu, is there something you need?”
“I heard you’re assisting in surgery tomorrow?”
Gu Kai’s cold brows were calm, his expression indifferent, and his deep voice carried little emotion.
Wei Jingshan’s eyes widened in surprise before raising her gaze to him again. Despite his commanding presence, she met his eyes, a subtle excitement surfacing in hers. “Doctor Gu, yes, tomorrow will be my first time assisting in surgery. Although it’s a minor role, I’m still a little nervous. Could you give me some guidance?”
“Qiu Wei is very experienced in such surgeries; you can just ask him.”
Gu Kai narrowed his eyes slightly, casually throwing out the remark.
Wei Jingshan felt puzzled.
If Gu Kai had stopped her, wasn’t it to say something? Did this mean he already suspected her involvement in Fang Zhiwei’s incident?
Gu Kai silently noted every subtle change in Wei Jingshan’s expression. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes.
“I recall Mayor Chen has been quite supportive of you. He covered your school expenses, didn’t he?”
Wei Jingshan blinked, her brain working frantically while responding, “Yes. If not for Mayor Chen’s help, I wouldn’t have been able to attend school.”
“Drop by my office before lunchtime.”
“Alright!”
Suppressing her confusion, Wei Jingshan agreed softly.
Gu Kai entered the men’s restroom. Only then did Wei Jingshan purse her lips, walk forward slowly, and contemplate the meaning behind Gu Kai’s words.
Initially, she thought Gu Kai was suspicious of her.
But later, when he asked that particular question, Wei Jingshan felt that perhaps Gu Kai wasn’t suspicious of her at all, but had brought up the matter because of Mayor Chen’s association, which might explain why he asked her to visit his office.
Returning to his office from the restroom, Gu Kai’s phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, Gu Kai squinted slightly, using his long fingers to press the answer button. “Hello, Mo Xiuchen.”
“Ah Kai, it’s done.”
Mo Xiuchen’s deep voice came through. Gu Kai’s lips curled into a cold smile. “Did you catch them?”
“Yes, we did. They’re in the police station now and have confessed to everything. I expect someone will head to your hospital before noon.”
“Is it the C County police?”
“Probably not. It might be Lu Zhiyan’s team going to your hospital. You can let Fang Zhiwei know, and don’t forget to inform Bai Yiyi too—she’s also a victim in this.”
As Mo Xiuchen spoke, his tone hinted at an underlying meaning.
“I informed her yesterday, but since there wasn’t enough evidence at that time, I didn’t tell Fang Zhiwei. Now that the person is caught, I’ll call Fang Zhiwei soon. As for Wei Jingshan, that conniving woman, this time, even if the heavens plead for her, it won’t help.”
“Haha, I don’t think anyone would dare plead for her now. Just wait and see.” Mo Xiuchen laughed confidently over the line. Gu Kai scoffed coldly, “She also promised to get Qian Songnan out of trouble. Maybe someone really will plead for her. I’ll be ready.”
