Chapter 1456: 1455 Registered
Ninth day of the first lunar month, a good day for marriage.
The weather was great that day, with a gentle breeze and warm spring sunlight.
“Dad, Mom, I want to go too.”
Tongtong stood on the sofa, her small arms wrapped around Gu Kai’s neck, twisting her body to look at Bai Yiyi. She was particularly happy this morning.
No, it should be said that she had been particularly happy since yesterday morning.
Because her dad and mom were going to get their marriage certificate, they could always be with her, and she could hold their hands and go for walks outside together.
Her mom and dad could be like the moms and dads of her siblings, holding hands.
Thinking of this, Tongtong giggled stupidly again.
“Tongtong, Dad and Mom are going to get their certificate. What are you going there for?” Bai Yuqin looked at Tongtong’s radiant smile and couldn’t help but laugh.
Tongtong pouted, “I’m going to bear witness.”
Not sure where she learned it from, when Tongtong said this, she was serious, as if without her bearing witness, the certificate would not be valid, or perhaps her parents would change their mind.
“Fine, let Tongtong bear witness, lest your mom changes her mind at the civil affairs bureau.”
Gu Kai doted on his daughter to an extreme extent, agreeing to whatever she said. As soon as he spoke, Tongtong cheered and leaned forward to give him a big kiss on his handsome face.
“Dad is the best.”
“This little rascal.”
Bai Yuqin laughed with a face full of smiles, “Yiyi, Ah Kai, you two hurry to the civil affairs bureau, I’ll buy groceries later, come home for lunch. And tonight when your dad is free, we’ll all have dinner together.”
“Aunt Bai, since you’re not feeling well, don’t tire yourself out. We’ll come back and pick you up for lunch outside.”
Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion will be perfect. Whether it’s the environment, service, or dishes, they’re among the best in G City. Most importantly, it’s their frequent spot, like being home.
“Mom, just listen to Ah Kai, don’t tire yourself out.” Although Bai Yuqin had been coughing less in the last few days, her health couldn’t fully recover in just a day or two.
Gu Kai’s care for her mom touched Bai Yiyi, and she naturally sided with him, urging her mom to accept the gesture.
Bai Yuqin felt a warmth in her heart, hurriedly nodding with a smile, “Alright, then I won’t get groceries, Ah Kai, Yiyi, hurry up then, don’t delay.”
Gu Kai drove, with Bai Yiyi and Tongtong sitting in the back, the family of three heading to get their marriage certificate.
Coincidentally, on their way to the civil affairs bureau, they encountered Fang Zhiwei going for psychological therapy, accompanied by Lu Zhiyan.
Gu Kai initially intended to drive straight past without stopping, but there happened to be a traffic jam ahead.
“Ah Kai, where are you all going, the whole family together?” Lu Zhiyan teased with a smile, while beside him, Fang Zhiwei remained indifferent, her gaze passing over Bai Yiyi and Tongtong without speaking.
“Dad and Mom are going to get the certificate.”
Before Gu Kai could respond, Tongtong, eager to let the world know about her parents getting their certificate, spoke up, her voice soft and tender, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
Upon hearing this, Fang Zhiwei’s expression slightly changed, her head originally lowered suddenly lifted, her gaze directed at Gu Kai in the driver’s seat.
Lu Zhiyan caught sight of Fang Zhiwei staring at Gu Kai, discreetly furrowing his brows slightly, exaggeratedly laughing twice, “Tongtong, your dad and mom are going to get their certificate, why are you going along?”
“To bear witness.”
Tongtong still stuck to the same answer.
Speaking with utter seriousness.
Lu Zhiyan couldn’t hold back, laughed heartily, turning to Fang Zhiwei, “Zhiwei, since Ah Kai and Bai Yiyi are going to get their certificate, let’s not delay them any further, let’s go.”
Fang Zhiwei’s eyes seemed a bit moist.
Upon hearing Lu Zhiyan’s words, she pursed her lips tightly, turning her head without saying a word, neither offering congratulations nor questioning, she quietly walked away.
Bai Yiyi watched Fang Zhiwei’s slow steps, felt the sadness enveloping her, and lightly furrowed her brow.
“Tongtong, sit still.”
Gu Kai glanced out the car window, retracting his gaze and instructing Tongtong in the back seat. Hearing Tongtong’s response ‘Okay’, he followed the traffic ahead, slowly moving.
“Ah Kai, why don’t we postpone getting the certificate?”
Bai Yiyi pursed her lips, speaking softly.
Gu Kai, upon hearing these words, looked at her through the rear-view mirror, “Is it because of Fang Zhiwei?”
“Mm, she seemed very sad just now. Isn’t she undergoing treatment now? Maybe we should…”
“Yiyi, I don’t want to wait any longer. It’s better to rip off the Band-Aid in one go. If it makes Fang Zhiwei sad, then, unless I never marry, she’ll feel hurt at some point.”
Gu Kai’s thin lips pressed into a straight line, his voice sounding slightly somber.
He had already told his father Gu Yan last night that he was going to get the certificate with Bai Yiyi today. Gu Yan wasn’t surprised, “Ah Kai, as long as you’ve thought it through, go ahead, I won’t oppose.”
“I just visited the cemetery earlier and shared the news with mom.” Gu Kai looked at Gu Yan, speaking calmly.
Gu Yan faintly smiled, came forward to pat his shoulder, and said nothing more.
“Yiyi, I know you’re still dwelling over Professor Fang’s death. Yesterday, Zhiyan told me he’d accompany Fang Zhiwei to overcome her depression. You have nothing to worry about. After her pain, she might just find it easier to let go.”
Gu Kai’s comforting words helped dissolve Bai Yiyi’s hesitation bit by bit.

“Lu Zhiyan, where are you taking me?”
Fang Zhiwei was led away by Lu Zhiyan, her face flush with anger, as she struggled to extract her hand.
Lu Zhiyan didn’t give her the chance to pull her hand away, firmly gripping it without hurting her wrist, but she had to keep pace with him.
He took her to the park, where Lu Zhiyan gently pushed Fang Zhiwei to sit on a long bench, saying gravely, “Cry if you want to, there’s no one here. Once you’re done crying, we’ll leave.”
“Why should I cry?”
Fang Zhiwei stubbornly tilted her chin, angrily glaring at Lu Zhiyan, wondering who he thought he was to meddle in all her affairs after offering her a bit of help?
If it weren’t for her not wanting to worry her grandmother, she wouldn’t let him follow her around all day.
Lu Zhiyan’s handsome face turned dark, his gaze intensely focusing on her, “The man you like is getting married, with someone else as the bride. Aren’t you pained by this? Cry it out. You knew a year ago how this would end, yet you still can’t face it even now. Fang Zhiwei, are you really planning to ruin your entire life over this?”
Fang Zhiwei’s flushed face grew pale, her nose felt sour, but she pressed her lips tightly, refusing to cry.
“Yes, I can’t let go. What does that have to do with you?”
“I can’t stand you degrading yourself this way!”
Lu Zhiyan’s harsh and stern words enraged Fang Zhiwei completely, abruptly standing up from the long bench, “If you can’t stand it, then leave. I didn’t ask for your company.”
