Chapter 418: Dominic’s Maste plan
Chapter 418: Dominic’s Maste plan
Gabriel’s eyes sharpened as he shifted his gaze to the Lin sisters. "The fact that the so called number one has yet to make a move is strange."
By so called number one, everyone knew he was not referring to Henry, the lord of the camp, but to Dominic, the man who had risen from a common refugee to the very top of both the eastern and northern camps.
This time around, it was Lin Xiyumi who spoke up. "You might not know this, but Dominic has been in a secret power struggle with Henry for quite some time now."
Of course Gabriel knew this. He had already been informed by Geoffrey, Dante’s personal butler. Still, it never hurt to learn more. Who knew if the Lin sisters had information that even Geoffrey lacked.
Lin Xueyi’s next words proved that she truly did.
"The only reason Dominic hasn’t gotten rid of Henry is because of his brother, the lord of the northern camp, which is the sibling faction to the eastern camp. Although no one knows this publicly, those of us at the high table are aware that Dominic has planned several times to assassinate Henry and make it look like an accident, but he failed every time." She paused, glanced at her sister, and gave a short nod.
Lin Xiyumi nodded back and continued the explanation. "If our instincts are right, Henry deliberately held back from joining the fight because he wants you to do him the favor of killing Henry."
Gabriel’s eyes flashed, and suddenly everything made sense. If he dealt the killing blow to Henry, then he would incur the wrath of the northern camp, which was more powerful, bigger, and far better organized, assuming he even survived.
In Dominic’s mind, after Gabriel killed Henry, he would then eliminate Gabriel, take over the camp, win the favor of the lord of the northern camp by avenging his brother, slowly accumulate power, and when he was strong enough, launch an attack on the northern camp itself.
Gabriel’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"All this is if I kill Henry."
He did not know whether to call Dominic smart or dangerously shortsighted.
Gabriel let out a slow breath as the last pieces slid into place. Dominic’s plan was clean, ruthless, and built entirely on other people doing the dirty work for him. Henry dies by Gabriel’s hand. Gabriel becomes the common enemy. Dominic steps in as the reasonable successor, the man who regrets what happened but has no choice except to act. By the time the dust settled, the eastern camp would already belong to him.
But did Gabriel find anything wrong with this plan?
The answer was a resounding no.
This was no playground. Out here in the treacherous wilderness, monsters and bandits roamed freely, and survival often depended on using any means necessary.
"That explains a lot," Gabriel said calmly. His tone was steady, but his mind was already moving several steps ahead. "Henry stays back, Dominic stays invisible, and everyone else bleeds."
Lin Xiyumi’s lips curved into a faint, bitter smile. "Exactly. He’s trying to turn you into a disposable knife."
No one disagreed or found it offensive. It was the plain truth.
For a brief moment, silence followed.
Around them, the battlefield continued to shift. Explosions thundered in the distance, shouts echoed across the camp, and the smell of smoke and blood thickened the air.
"If Dominic wanted Henry dead," Gabriel continued, "there were cleaner ways to do it. The fact that he waited for me tells me two things." He raised two fingers. "First, he believes I’m strong enough to kill Henry. Second, he’s either extremely confident, arrogant, or powerful enough to deal with me afterward."
Strangely, that thought did not sit well with Gabriel. He hated being underestimated, and more than anything, he hated when someone believed they could use him as a pawn on their chessboard.
Even without meeting Dominic, an image of the man had already formed in his mind. Confident. Arrogant. Calculating. Patient.
A dangerous combination.
"He’s the type who never dirties his hands unless he’s certain the outcome is guaranteed," Gabriel continued, his voice low. "Which means if he’s willing to let me live long enough to kill Henry, then he’s already decided how I die afterward."
"So," Lin Xiyumi asked, her eyes locked onto his face, "are you going to kill Henry for him?"
Gabriel was silent for a brief moment.
Then he smiled.
"That depends," he said evenly, "on whether Dominic realizes he’s not the only one who can plan ahead."
He said nothing more, but Scarlet, Sophie, and Alice, who had been with him for a long time, knew he was already forming a plan.
"Then what about Henry?" Alice asked, looking directly at the Lin sisters.
"That..." Lin Xueyi hesitated before answering. "He’s scared."
"Fear?" Sophie repeated, her brows knitting slightly. "Of what?"
Lin Xueyi exhaled slowly, as if weighing how much to reveal. "Of him."
At those words, all eyes immediately turned to Gabriel, whose expression remained calm and collected, as always.
"Henry knows his own limits," Lin Xueyi continued. "He rose to power through connections and manipulation, not raw strength. He’s never been the strongest person in the camp, just the one sitting at the top. When you arrived and started tearing through elite units like they were nothing, he panicked."
Lin Xiyumi nodded. "Henry isn’t stupid. He’s been watching the battle reports closely. Every loss, every commander that fell, every unit that broke under pressure. The more you fought, the clearer it became that if he stepped onto the battlefield personally, he might not walk away."
"Then I’ll have to draw him out and get rid of him," Gabriel said coldly.
"But that’s exactly what Dominic wants," Sophie protested. "Is there no alternative method?"
"Dominic thinks we’re playing his game." A slow grin appeared on Gabriel’s face as he lifted his head and looked toward the building where Henry was hiding. "Let’s give him that illusion."
