Chapter 89: The Li Family’s Reaction

Chapter 89: The Li Family’s Reaction

The Li Family.

Although the Li family ranks last among the seven great families of Yanjing, with relatively weak influence, their current status in Yanjing, a city teeming with powerful families, is naturally due to their extraordinary foundation.

In the past, the Li family was always bustling with guests and lively atmosphere, but today, the Li family was shrouded in an extremely oppressive and gloomy atmosphere.

“Yuanbai, you said you’ve found out who attacked Yuanjue? Tell me exactly what happened.” Old Master Li glanced around and said to Li Yuanbai in a deep voice.

At Old Master Li’s words, everyone’s eyes fell on Li Yuanbai, awaiting his answer.

Li Yuanbai nodded and said, “Grandpa, yes, the investigation results are in. All the clues point to Jiang Feng. If there are no surprises, the perpetrator is Jiang Feng.”

“Him?” A hint of surprise flashed in Old Master Li’s eyes.

Old Master Li was already very familiar with the name Jiang Feng, partly because of Li Yuanjue’s affair and partly because of Ye Qingxuan. But hearing Jiang Feng’s name again, and being linked to Li Yuanjue once more, naturally brought him a completely different feeling.

Li Yuanbai said, “To be honest, before this result came out, I was quite surprised, because neither everyone, nor even myself, ever imagined that the person who attacked Yuanjue would be Jiang Feng.”

“Are you sure you’re not mistaken? How could it be him?” Li Xiang frowned, surprised.

Not only Li Xiang couldn’t believe it, but even Li Bo and Li Jing found it hard to believe. After all, if it were just a simple fight, that would be one thing, but this incident had many strange aspects, and it didn’t seem like something a spoiled brat like Jiang Feng would do.

Li Yuanbai understood their meaning and said, “Everyone should know that Jiang Feng killed Qin Shiming, right?”

Upon hearing this, everyone’s eyes flickered, but no one responded.

Seeing that his words had attracted everyone’s attention, Li Yuanbai continued, “After Yuanjue’s incident, I immediately sent people to investigate. Although Jiang Feng didn’t leave any trace in the hotel’s surveillance footage that night, according to our investigation, shortly before the incident, a taxi—the only taxi that went to the hotel that night—was stopped by security. After the taxi was stopped, someone got out of the car, and the quick sketch made by the security guards showed that the person was Jiang Feng.”

“Even if Jiang Feng went to the hotel, it doesn’t necessarily mean he attacked Yuanjue,” Li Jing said thoughtfully.

“Yes, we checked the hotel’s room booking records. Jiang Feng frequents the hotel. If it were just this one clue, it wouldn’t be enough to determine that Jiang Feng is the murderer. But after Yuanjue woke up, he told me that he saw Jiang Feng at the Huatian Club that night. And, most importantly, this also involves a woman named Ji Yan,” Li Yuanbai said solemnly.

“Who is Ji Yan?” Li Bo asked curiously.

Li Yuanjue was his son, now crippled and bedridden for life with no chance of recovery. He was more eager than anyone to find the perpetrator.

Even if Jiang Feng wasn’t the perpetrator, with these clues, he was determined not to let anyone connected to this get away with it. He asked impatiently.

“After Yuanjue mentioned this woman named Ji Yan, I immediately investigated her myself. The results were somewhat unexpected. This Ji Yan is just an ordinary woman from an extremely ordinary family, currently working as a counselor at Yanjing University. At this point, I was almost ready to give up, but then I got a clue: this Ji Yan is actually the counselor for Jiang Feng’s class. Yuanjue said that it was precisely because of this that he developed feelings for Ji Yan.”

At this point, Li Yuanbai paused slightly, then said, “Based on all of the above, I boldly concluded that the person who broke into the hotel that night and injured Yuanjue was Jiang Feng!”

“According to the above, your deduction is not wrong. The only thing I don’t understand is how Jiang Feng managed to sneak into the hotel without being detected by the surveillance cameras?” Li Bo asked after thinking for a while, puzzled.

He wanted to confirm that Jiang Feng was the murderer, not just speculate. If he did, he would lack a legitimate reason to attack Jiang Feng, and the Jiang family would inevitably obstruct him.

“That’s unclear for now,” Li Yuanbai said helplessly.

All the initial clues pointed to Jiang Feng; this was the biggest flaw in the whole affair, or perhaps the only flaw.

Li Bo asked his father, “Dad, what’s your opinion on this matter?”

“Opinion? What opinion can I have? He’s a good son you raised, but look at him! What kind of behavior is this!” Old Master Li slammed his hand on the table and said coldly, “This unfilial son, in my opinion, will die on a woman’s belly sooner or later. It would be better for him to have his arms and legs broken.”

Li Bo felt a chill run down his spine from his father’s scolding and stammered, “Dad, this isn’t the time to discuss these things. What I mean is, should we take immediate action against Jiang Feng?”

“Why are you telling me this? I’m old,” Old Master Li said calmly.

Li Bo’s face lit up with joy. He knew that the old man’s words meant he was handing over the decision-making power to him. He immediately asked, “Yuanbai, is there any news about Jiang Feng?”

Li Yuanbai understood the old man’s attitude and replied, “Jiang Feng has been missing since Qin Shiming’s death.”

“Missing?” Li Bo sneered, “No matter what, find him immediately. His disappearance is even better; it makes it easier for us to act. Once we find him, kill him immediately!”

“Yes!” Li Yuanbai replied without hesitation.

Although Li Yuanbai had only encountered Jiang Feng once, at Chen Siran’s birthday banquet, Jiang Feng had left a very deep impression on him. He vaguely sensed Jiang Feng’s danger. Such a person, if allowed to live, could pose a significant threat to the Li family. He had to eliminate him without hesitation, nipping the danger in the bud.

“Yuanbai, you’ve lost your composure,” the old man said, slightly displeased.

“Yes, Grandpa, but I think that since Jiang Feng dared to attack Yuanjue again and again, and not only evaded our retaliation at the police station, but also infiltrated the hotel so stealthily, coupled with his recent changes—even Ye Qingxuan has fallen for him—I have a feeling something’s off about him,” Li Yuanbai said coldly.

“Yes, something is definitely off.” Old Master Li pondered for a moment, then said, “Then do it this way: send men out to search for Jiang Feng’s whereabouts with all their might. Once found, arrest him immediately; if he resists, kill him on the spot!”

*****

Jiang Feng was in Tang City, unaware that the Li family had already pieced together the connection between him and Li Yuanjue from the smallest clues.

He was sitting on the bed in the small hotel, quietly sensing the Spirit Suppressing Seal on his palm, but several hours had passed, and the final result was rather disappointing for Jiang Feng.

The Spirit Suppressing Seal in his hand was now indistinguishable from an ordinary seal, devoid of any aura, utterly lifeless. No matter how he tried to activate it with his inner energy, there was no response; even the surging of blood and resonance of his soul he had felt before was gone.

“What’s going on?” Jiang Feng pondered, still somewhat puzzled.

Of course, one thing Jiang Feng was certain of: this Spirit Suppressing Seal was definitely extraordinary, far beyond what ordinary spiritual artifacts could compare to. It likely held some secret, but he simply didn’t know what it was at the moment.

Only when his stomach rumbled did Jiang Feng put away the Spirit Suppressing Seal, intending to go out to find something to eat.

As soon as he opened the door, a figure walked past him, leaving a trail of fragrance.

Jiang Feng frowned slightly at the scent.

The figure who had passed by turned around at that moment, also frowning and giving him a glare.

Jiang Feng finally got a good look at the woman. She had a small, delicate oval face, but heavy makeup obscured her natural features. Her perfume was overpowering, giving her an air of vulgarity.

The woman looked at Jiang Feng with disdainful mockery in her eyes and said, “Don’t even think about it, or I’ll kill you.”

Jiang Feng was speechless. Was this woman’s self-esteem a little too high? He knew she wasn’t ugly, but that was all. Not to mention Ye Qingxuan, she was far less attractive than even Chen Siran.

Moreover, that overpowering perfume was utterly vulgar and beneath his notice.

With a faint smile, Jiang Feng said, “You don’t need to worry about that. Even if every woman in the world died, I wouldn’t make a move on you.”

“What do you mean by that?” the woman immediately retorted angrily.

“It’s exactly what I meant,” Jiang Feng said nonchalantly, not taking the woman’s attitude to heart.

“Fine, that’s easy for you to say. If I find out you have even the slightest ulterior motive towards me, I’ll kill you!” the woman said angrily, quickly walking outside.

Jiang Feng smiled. This woman, though young, had quite a temper, constantly talking about fighting and killing; she probably hadn’t even killed a chicken.

He simply laughed it off and followed her outside.

The small inn was located in a somewhat remote area, and Jiang Feng wasn’t familiar with the area. It took him about ten minutes to find a beef noodle shop.

Just as he reached the entrance, he saw the woman he had dealt with at the inn before.
