Chapter 1437: Letting A Monster Into Your Home
Chapter 1437: Letting A Monster Into Your Home
It was unbelievable, but just as Prince Reis had said, everyone who was in that tower was restored. It was magical. What lay in devastated rubble stood whole again, as if it had never come down to begin with.
Structurally speaking, the Prince’s power seemed like that of a deity.
’I guess this is what it means to be a Luminary.’
There were three Luminaries Northern had met so far.
Rughsbourgh was newly born, and they did fight for a while. But Rughsbourgh had also become a Luminary through unconventional means; he was lacking. Of course, now, he’d be far stronger than he ever was.
Then there was Princess Rehema. She was different and somewhat non-violent, although her aura was no less threatening than that of Prince Reis. But they weren’t close, and he wasn’t able to take a look at her talent—not because he couldn’t, but because he never got a chance to. One still had to use their talent ability for him to copy it, after all.
Northern felt slightly mundane having to bend to that simple rule.
He thought about Prince Reis.
Prince Reis was the most powerful and vivid demonstration of the Radiant-rank he had been fortunate to experience.
"Command and Countermand, uh..."
Northern found himself greedily curious about this talent.
"Lord Northern... how can this truly be?"
He turned to General Sethran, who was standing with a dumbfounded look on his face, blinking at his estate, which was as neat and proper as it had been just yesterday.
Northern sighed.
Thanks to his brother, he had a lot of explaining to do. On the bright side, he could rid himself of the guilt of using the Ryugan military power. At the same time, he got a bitter taste in his mouth at having to help his brother defeat his father.
He had his plans, of course, but for now, he was going to keep things easy.
On another end, though, Northern was finally, for the first time, about to enter the Reimgard Empire.
They had travelled for a couple of days and finally managed to reach the borderlands. However, the rules seemed to have been tightened, and entry into the Empire was requiring more intense scrutiny than ever before.
A black-haired boy with alabaster skin stood before the Northern Gate Sentinel, who was silent for a while, studying Northern, the two ladies beside him, and the Snow White wolf with three tails.
"You say you’re from the Academy?"
He was studying their student IDs while observing them closely.
Northern responded quite calmly.
"Yes, we lost our homes in the recent disaster..."
He sniffed, sounding slightly somber.
"We wish to make a home for ourselves and never have to lose it to disaster again."
The soldier did not respond but only continued to study the IDs.
"It says here that you are a Sage. How can that be?"
Northern, of course, expected this discrepancy; it was why he had put it there. Saying he was a Paragon would have made him too suspicious. In fact, calling himself a Sage made him stand out like a sore thumb already, but it wasn’t without reason.
During the Milhwa Festival, people from all over the continent came to watch. It was easy to confirm that there was a student with multiple talents who was a Sage. It was fortunate that his reputation soared during the tournament; he had no idea he would be using it this way.
The soldier sighed.
"I have confirmed your identity. The threat of the Forest Hunters rises more perilously in the North, and many lives have been lost. Beware that if you are to cross this gate, you’re responsible for whatever happens to you."
Northern froze for a second.
’Forest Hunters?’
He had thought that the destroyed wall was the reason why the Empire was so uptight about their security, but that didn’t seem to be the case.
He nudged slightly.
"Permit me, what are Forest Hunters?"
The soldier responded in a weary tone.
"The most intelligent kind of monsters you’d ever meet. Actually, no, pray you don’t ever get to meet them."
The more Northern heard about these strange beings, the more curious he got. And the more excited he was.
He raised his student ID slightly.
"If it’s okay, I can offer my service to you in the extermination of these monsters to make the Empire a safer place."
The soldier glared down at him with displeasure.
"First of all, boy, the Empire is the safest. These pests dare not venture beyond the North. But we appreciate your enthusiasm. If you want to join the Gate Sentinels, there are a series of examinations you’d have to go through. Give me a moment."
He paused briefly and threw his voice over to his colleague, checking the second line.
"Hey, Titus, is Captain pushing the examination?"
Sentinel Titus barely had the luxury to glance over.
"Yeah, something about looking for true talents. You know how Captain can be, competitive with the Gate Wardens."
The soldier shook his head with a small smile and turned to Northern.
"You’re in luck, boy, the examination is still open. You can apply, but I must warn you, many come to us like you, eager to make a name for themselves or rise through the ranks. I advise you not to look after those things and just look out for your own neck."
Northern smiled.
"I am a Sage. Looking out for my neck is the least enjoyable thing these days. Besides, you’d be shocked how tough my neck can be."
The soldier scoffed.
"Yeah, whatever, boy. Once you enter the walls, don’t wander too far off. After walking a hundred and fifty meters, to your left, trace your way downhill and you’ll arrive at the Garrison."
Northern nodded, and together with Nyssira, her aide, and Mr. Fluffy, they all passed the gate.
Titus glanced over to his partner, still somewhat busy checking IDs.
"What was that about?"
The soldier smacked his lips with irritation.
"Some newly graduated student who thinks he’s got a tough neck. I won’t be surprised if he dies on his first expedition. They always die."
Both of them lightly laughed the situation away, totally unaware of the creature they had led into their home.
