Chapter 499: The Otherside? [1]
[11:34 AM]
After watching Lillian and the Captain fly into the magical orb in the sky, Viesta, Emilio, Jon, and lastly, the Jungle Lord quickly moved according to the instructions given to them.
Viesta flew in the air while the three below her ran on foot. Their target? It was the massive temple off in the distance.
Whatever it was inside was incredibly important for them to succeed in getting out of this Trial.
’She was also... Quite hesitant...’
Viesta remembered back to when Lillian was explaining the plan and the face she wore while explaining it.
It was a mix of confidence, but also hesitance about whether or not her plan would succeed or not. Fortunately, the expression that Lillian displayed wasn’t on par with how she was yesterday.
’Don’t worry, Lillian... Let us take off some weight off your shoulders, consider it compensation for protecting us these past few days.’ Viesta whispered inside her mind before waking up as something flew over her.
Emilio, who was on the ground, flinched and stopped dead in his tracks as something—
THUD!
—Landed right in front of him.
"What the hell!?"
Taking a step back, the three down below gazed at what had landed right in front of them, discovering what seemed to be a moving skeleton that was partially destroyed from the fall.
Jon quickly squashed it under his heel, protecting his young master from the likely danger before turning back like everyone else.
Viesta, looking back, found something far off in the distance.
A wave of undead pirates was swarming towards them with a malicious spiritual flame in their eyes.
Could it be that they had already devoured the monsters from where they came from?
Viesta quickly moved in the air, dodging as an undead pirate was hurled towards her.
Once narrowly dodging the undead that was swiftly taken care of the moment it landed, she spotted something in the midst of the undead wave.
Hulking undeads, a little over two metres tall, were reaching towards the undead pirates around them to hurl at her, most likely to take her out of the sky.
’They’re capable of this much thought even when undead—?’ Viesta silently commented as she dodged out of the way again before weaving in between a volley of falling undead.
While the undead weren’t that much of an issue for either Viesta, Jon, Emilio, or especially the Jungle Lord, it would be a problem if they were to be swarmed.
"We have to hurry it up! Ignore the undead and head straight for the temple!" Viesta yelled, noticing everyone below was distracted by the undead around them.
Emilio and Jon heard her order and immediately began to move past the undead, dodging their swings.
Jon moved like a seasoned boxer, ducking and weaving between attempted attacks towards him, while Emilio moved clumsily but also systematically, as though he was trying to follow some kind of footwork.
The Nightraven’s Step of the Silent Sky.
Emilio’s feet, despite never leaving the ground, managed to carry the young man over countless short distances, allowing him to dodge close calls.
Of course, what would’ve been close calls were taken care of by none other than the monster of the group.
Not only did the Jungle Lord act as the protector of the group, but he also provided ample support by eliminating the undead that managed to get too close to them.
With a single swing of his battle axe, he tore through crowds of the undead like a monster of war. With a rapid thrust of his spear, he picked off the undead that fell out of the sky as if he were spearfishing the sky.

After an arduous run and flight, they managed to successfully reach the temple of the ruin.
It was grand in its design and massive in size. The pillars were made of a quartz-coloured stone that was stained with aquamarine, as though it was corroding due to age.
Similar to copper.
Viesta flew down and landed in the middle of the group. She stepped forward and stared at the stone double doors before them, which were also made out of the same material as the pillars.
They were also as tall as the Jungle Lord, fortunately.
She tried to push them open, but found them too heavy to open. Soon, Jon and Emilio joined in helping her try to get them open.
But no matter how hard they pushed, it just wouldn’t budge.
And the longer they spent trying to get it open, the shorter the gap between them and the horde of undead.
Due to the environment they were in, the Jungle Lord couldn’t rely on its other ability—vines—to stop the horde in their tracks.
Even the Jungle Lord joined in with the others to hopefully get the doors open, but even with its monstrous strength, it wasn’t able to get the door to budge either.
"Come on, damnit...! Open!" Viesta shouted frustratedly.
"What’s the point of a damn door if it doesn’t open!" Emilio shouted, equally as frustrated as his Bodyguard grunted in agreement.
But then, after a minute or two—
Skrr...!
—The door started to move inwards.
It was opening!
...
However...
’Something’s off...’ Viesta sensed mana slowly infusing itself into the double doors.
Out of pure curiosity, she signalled everyone to move back and watched as the door continued to open without their involvement. It was... Moving on its own.
Later, when it opened, they were met with an extremely dark and empty hall inside the large temple—it was pitch black and eerie.
They all looked at each other and gulped. If it were an option, no one wanted to enter it to see what was inside.
Unfortunately...
"Come on, everyone... We have a plan to accomplish..."
They weren’t given that much of a choice.
All of them hastily and hesitantly entered the dark hall of the temple, unwilling to face the undead horde that was roaring behind them.
And the moment they entered...
Skrrr...
... The door slowly closed in on them.
