Chapter 500: The Otherside? [2]

Skrr...

Once the door closed in on them, they were ambushed with absolute darkness that didn’t last long.

A moment after, magical orbs of light began to appear inside the hall of the temple, appearing near the ceiling. Soon enough, the entire inside was lit up to a degree.

Pillars of stone were aligned opposite one another as an ancient, long carpet stretched between them, leading all the way to an elevated stone platform where a throne was held.

And that was where everyone’s eyes were settled on the moment the hall was lit up.

Seated on a grand stone throne was a bare-chested, tall man with leggings.

He had a gorgeous face with a sharp jawline, golden eyes, and long flowing jet black hair that occasionally shimmered to a deep azure colour. And right above his right eyebrow was a glowing harpoon mark.

His chest was covered with countless tattoos of coral and sea serpents. He also had a tattoo of a woman’s face right beside where his heart would be; it was far more detailed compared to the other tattoos.

And unlike his upper body, his lower half was protected by a sleek and flexible protective leggings that ended at his ankles, leaving him barefoot as his webbed toes were laid exposed.

He was seated cross-legged with half of his face resting on his fist; he seemed... Bored.

The moment that everyone settled their eyes on them, their ears twitched as they heard—

[50% of this Trial’s Final Boss, The Drowned KingOne of the Four Mighty Sea KingsRuguda, has awoken...]

—The Jester’s announcement.

"F-fifty...?" Emilio muttered as he repeated the Jester’s words. What did it mean by fifty? He knew it was possible to have more than one Final Boss of a Trial, but...

For a Trial that was ranked B, wasn’t this a bit too much to ask!?

Viesta listened to what Emilio had to say and nodded grimly. She thought carefully. Lillian had told them that they were going to face a powerful enemy inside the temple, but to think it was actually one of the two final bosses...

And one of the Four Mighty Sea Kings at that!

As they were processing the thought that they were going to have to take on one of the Final Bosses, they noticed the Drowned King slowly standing up from his throne.

He then slowly raised a hand towards the glowing harpoon mark above his eyebrow.

Pinching the mark, a blinding light erupted as he now wielded a long and imposing harpoon that was roughly the height of a man.

The shaft of the harpoon was made out of a black wood that was uneven and streaked with glowing silvery veins that resembled cracks on ice.

The head of the harpoon was a single long dark metal that had a needle-like point at the end, created solely with the purpose of piercing.

The metal would also change in tone from matte black near the base to a deep blue-grey at the tip.

And surrounding the harpoon was a faint, constant mist of condensation along with a slight pressure that gave off an illusory distortion in the air.

Viesta and everyone around her expressed a darkened face as they saw the Drowned King summon his weapon, which they believed to be his signature.

Everyone summoned their weapons.

Viesta summoned her revolver, Soundblaster, wings, and chestplate.

Emilio summoned a dark and slender chestplate, a feathery cloak that emitted a dark and cold aura, and a silvery sabre.

But not only that, but he also summoned an abomination.

It had a bulky lobster-like body that was crossed with a widow spider, and it had a praying mantis head—the monster that almost took his life if it wasn’t for Lillian’s intervention.

Jon summoned a pair of plain, but enchanted knuckledusters.

As for the Jungle Lord, he wielded his usual stone battle axe and stone spear.

A four against one, a ratio that anyone would love and hate to be in. However, such a scenario was needed for an enemy like the Drowned King.

Standing inside the hall of the temple, everyone but the Jungle Lord—for obvious reasons—began to sweat; they were feeling the pressure now. They had yet to begin the fight, but seeds of doubt had begun to take root inside their hearts.

Could they win against a foe like this?

...

Unfortunately, they were once again reminded that they weren’t given much of an option.

The Drowned King took a single step and crossed over roughly 50 metres in an instant. And without warning, he stabbed towards the strongest of the group.

The Jungle Lord.

FWISH!

However, just like the Drowned King, the Jungle Lord was also as fast.

Leaning to the side, the Wendigo dodged the stab before stabbing his own polearm at the man, who was unfazed by the attack.

The Drowned King immediately slapped away the stone spear with his free hand before bringing his harpoon back and slashing with it.

In defence, the Wendigo brought the flat side of his battle axe as a shield and blocked the strike, which left a deep slash on his weapon, surprising the Jungle Lord.

While the two engaged in high-speed close combat, everyone else wasn’t idle.

Viesta flashed her revolver out, imbuing it with her magic before shooting.

"[Echoing Force]!"

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Simultaneously, Emilio flashed his hand out and summoned an orb of light and darkness, which blasted out into a beam.

"[Eclipse Beam]!"

The two projectiles quickly neared the Drowned King, who was still locked in combat with the Jungle Lord.

FWIP!

Stabbing his spear out that was wrapped inside an illusory harpoon, the Jungle Lord watched as the Drowned King swiftly moved out of the way with ease.

In the corner of the Wendigo’s eyes, he watched as the projectiles of Emilio and Viesta dangerously closed in.

Unwilling to experience pain, the Jungle Lord tried to back away from the Drowned King but found itself pulled back by his spear.

And in that moment, the Drowned King managed to dexterously swap places with the Jungle Lord, causing the Wendigo to take the brunt of the attacks.
