Chapter 516: Interrogated and Running out of Time?
Chapter 516: Interrogated and Running out of Time?
Vulcrum stared down at the girl’s prostrating figure, surprised and startled by her request. He took a glance around the hall again.
She spoke of companions, didn’t she?
He eyed the three corpses lying strewn around the hall with a glint of realisation in his eyes. He then turned to his captain, Captain Righthook, for his opinion.
"Hm..." Running his hand through his beard, Captain Righthook focused all of his attention on the girl.
He pondered deeply and threw a glance towards the Jungle Lord, who had ceased all sorts of hostility towards him and his group. Why was that?
Analysing the way the Wendigo was gazing at Lillian, the Captain concluded that this monster seemed to be part of Lillian’s group as well...
Could it be this monster was actually a human in disguise?
Scrutinising the Wendigo, he sensed a strange mana signature coming off of it... It was unlike anything he had sensed before.
But, if this Wendigo was truly human, then they must be a Blessed and a powerful one at that for managing to hold their own against him and the other captains for a few minutes.
But.
If this monster was actually this girl’s companion, was this beast not the cause of her companions’ death?
He watched as the girl slowly raised her forehead from the ground and turned towards him, almost as though she had figured out that he was the one in charge of this decision.
Seeing the desperate look in her beautiful blue eyes, the Captain felt a sort of pride in his chest; he indeed was the one in charge of this decision.
"Arr... Tell me, little lassie, do yar know the cause of yar companions’ unfortunate demise?"
The white-haired girl nodded timidly and pointed towards the shrivelled corpse of the Drowned King, which had acted as fuel for the Jungle Lord’s regeneration.
"The identity of that corpse is one of the Four Mighty Sea Kings... More specifically the Drowned King..."
"A Sea King...!?" x 5
Shock and disbelief appeared in the eyes of each individual captain and Vulcrum. The prisoners held by a leash even began to whisper amongst each other, frightened that they were just in an arm’s reach from what might actually be the body of a Sea King.
There was a myth that being in the presence of a Sea King could bring a lifetime of misfortune onto the person...
Apart from the captain of the Leviathan Drowners, the other captains were able to discern the truth in what the girl had stated.
Due to their experience out at sea and their encounter with the Storm King several years ago, they were able to detect that the Mana Signature from the Drowned King’s corpse were rather similar to the Storm King.
"So then... That would mean both yar, this beast here, and those three bodies over there had managed to put this Sea King down?"
Captain Righthook scratched the scalp under his hat, finding it hard to believe before turning to the captain of the Seagull Brigade, whose eyes were glowing a bit.
An activation of an ability.
"The girl speaks the truth..."
"Yar pulling my peg leg!" Captain Righthook shouted, baffled, before pointing at the Jungle Lord with his thumb. "Besides this beast, none of them have even gotten their 4th blessing, much less 3rd, besides that one over there." Captain Righthook commented while pointing at Nearlo.
Right as the captain of the Seagull Brigade was about to respond, the white-haired girl interjected:
"The Drowned King was in a highly weakened state because of his war against the Storm King, so he only had about 30% of his power..."
Listening to her words, the Seagull Brigade Captain activated his lie-detector ability again before nodding.
"She speaks the truth... And if I remember correctly, there was indeed a report given to me about high-amount of activity happening in the Thundering Seas a while back, although I can’t prove if it was a war like this girl speaks about yet..."
"Alright then... What’s yar name, lassie?"

Lillian continued to be interrogated by the captains while under the prying eyes of the Seagull Brigade Captain.
"If yar defeated the Drowned King, why was it that yar and yar partner over there were outside this temple?"
"We were fighting against the lingering soul of the Drowned King, who was the cause of bringing this entire ruin to the surface of the sea..."
At this moment in time, Lillian was just following the script of dialogues from the game in hopes of them working.
Although there were a few unexpected questions here and there, she was able to satisfy them without setting off their lie-detector.

Taking a glance at the timer, Lillian screamed desperately inside her mind:
’Come on...! Please just resurrect them already!’
"Why were yar on this island? And does this place truly have three temples?"
"This place doesn’t have three temples, no... In fact, my companions and I were on the island that you all were presumably after, but then we fell into this ruin..."
"How did yar all fall?"
"... The island suddenly crumbled..."
The captain of the Seagull Brigade raised an eyebrow as he muttered again:
"She’s... Speaking the truth..."
Lillian internally sighed in relief, thankful that she didn’t have to prove anything that she said.
Captain Righthook brushed his hand through his beard, visibly surprised that Lillian had not once spoken of a single or disguised lie.
He then turned to Vulcrum.
Lillian, watching as the bearded man turned towards his second-in-command, felt jubilant; it was finally happening!
But, to not do anything that may cause what should be predetermined to go off course, Lillian continued to remain prostrating on the ground; however, what she didn’t expect happened next.
She was asked a question.
"Oi... How were yar aware that this person before yar was capable of raising the dead?" Captain Righthook asked, rather suspicious of Lillian. "Are yar perhaps a criminal that fled off of Noah’s Ark to escape being used as a sacrifice?"
Lillian, slowly sitting up, was met with a swift kick that she narrowly blocked. With her back scraping the ground from the kick, she was left utterly confused.
She didn’t remember this ever happening. She even prostrated before Vulcrum just as intended before shifting her entire attention to the narcissistic captain.
After a roll, Lillian leapt back to her feet, cautious and...
[1m: 20s]
Desperate for time...
What was it between what she did in the game and here any different?!
Could it be the way she expressed herself? The way she spoke? The impression she gave off? Even if she wasn’t a very good actor, she still acted out the game’s dialogue well enough!
’Ah! The Millis Aura!’
In the game, the Millis Aura was a term used to define the unconscious aura around Millis that affected those around her, making them more inclined to open up to her.
Although there were a few exceptions, like Marionette, who was completely immune to Millis’s charms, it was still effective,
’Tch...!’
As Lillian did her best to dodge Captain Righthook’s casual swings to put her on the ground, she gritted her teeth.
Deciding there was no other option...
She revealed her biggest secret.
