Chapter 591: "You could say I was bored"?
Marionette was also going to try to limit how much she used her magic, specifically, using the characteristics of the True Darkness within her.
And without killing anyone.
FWIP!
Marionette instantly turned her body to the side, dodging a quick stab from the Valkyrie - whose spear flew past her head.
The Valkyrie then drew herself back before unleashing a hellish storm of stabs onto Marionette.
FWIP FWIP FWIP
With speed far surpassing the Valkyrie, Marionette weaved in between the stabs - her gaze still and cold as she stared at the Valkyrie, who felt taunted.
Increasing her speed with her wind magic, the Valkyrie flew and dashed around Marionette - creating a small tornado to appear and encage Marionette.
Moving at a speed far exceeding what the ordinary Tier 2 mage could react to, the Valkyrie continued to fly around - her fingers tightly gripped around her spear.
She narrowed her gaze onto Marionette, who was found standing at the eye of the tornado - expressionless and cold, as though the tornado was just a gentle breeze to her.
The Valkyrie clicked her tongue before flapping her wings at the tornado, manifesting needles to shoot out and become swallowed by the fast-moving wind.
Marionette saw this and frowned.
Her eyes darted around, carefully noting every needle found within the tornado.
She then raised her hand towards an incoming needle.
Hovering outside the tornado, which began to be filled with dirt and leaves, the Valkyrie waited for a few moments before flying in.
With her spear stretched far out in front of her, she pierced through the dirty wind, targeting the woman at the centre of the tornado.
By now, Marionette should’ve become a pin cushion of her needles.
...
Right?
Through the open visor in her helmet, she watched as Marionette nonchalantly turned towards her without a single needle embedded in her face.
Instead, all the needles she had manifested were actually found in between the woman’s fingers.
The Valkyrie instinctively raised her forearms in front of her face.
Marionette flicked her wrist, chucking the needles at the Valkyrie’s face before making her next move.
Clink Clink Clink
The needles knocked against the armour wrapped around the Valkyrie’s forearms, dealing no visible damage.
After she lowered her arms, she was met with the sight of Marionette leaping into the air. The next second later, she felt a hand around her throat.
SWOOSH.
Dragging the Valkyrie through the air and out of the tornado, Marionette chokeslammed the woman into a dark puddle that opened beneath them.
The two fell into a completely dark world, plummeting into a dark sea that began to suffocate the Valkyrie. She thrashed about, trying to free herself; however, she was soon knocked unconscious by a punch from Marionette.
Swimming back up, Marionette shot out from the puddle - appearing back to the scene. She was then attacked by the Third Attendant, who had been acting as a spectator the entire time.
Rushing towards Marionette like a bull, he bought time for the two nobles to carry their friend and run away.
Appearing in front of Marionette, he swung his axe down - intending on cleaving her in half.
Unfortunately for him, Marionette was just too fast.
SWISH-CRUSH!
The Armoured Warrior’s axe fell like a lightning bolt; heavy and strong - splitting the ground.
Once he lifted his axe, he felt a blow—
BAM!
—Knock against the side of his helmet.
Marionette, who had delivered a quick blow to his head, felt the black chitin helmet bend inwards; a second later, the helmet flexed outwards with a burst of mana.
Pushing her back with the force equivalent to the strength she used behind her attack, Marionette stumbled with a calculating look in her eyes.
’Reflection?’
The man grinned behind the mask of his helmet, seeing as his armour’s enchantment worked. The monster that he slayed for this item was called a Flex-Armour Repulsion Beetle.
Like someone fixing their dented car with a wet plunger, he was able to fix all kinds of dents with just a push of his mana. The result afterwards would be a repulsion equal to what caused the dent in the first place.
Because of this ability, the armour was rather easy to dent - but that didn’t mean its level of protectiveness was any less than a fullsuit of metal armour!
As the Armoured Warrior was about to swing his axe at Marionette, he was once again struck on the head by the Assassin.
BAM!
Feeling the armour flex inwards before popping back out, Marionette was once again pushed back - the force of her attack reflecting back onto her fist.
However, with a stubborn look, Marionette stood her ground and began to unleash a flurry of punches onto the man’s black beetle armour.
BAM BAM BAM
The Armoured Warrior took it head-on, grinning smugly and cockily under his helmet. He watched as Marionette suffered from the force behind her own attacks and thought:
Was she an idiot? Why was she attacking him over and over again despite knowing the result? Was she insane?
He shook his head mockingly and moved to end it.
However, when he did, he caught a glimpse of an obsidian dagger appearing in Marionette’s hand.
A second later, his entire armour was covered in light and deep slash marks.
"You reflect blunt attacks, but not slashes?"
Another moment later—
SWISH SWISH SWISH
—He was sliced out of his armour.
With his Shard turning into a cloud of glass shards, he was left defenceless - unprotected.
He was then—
BAM!
—Taken out the moment his armour was destroyed.
Marionette slammed her fist against the side of the man’s head, knocking him out instantly.
After swallowing him in her darkness, Marionette frowned. For nobles of more esteemed families, they had hired rather weak bodyguards.
It made her think she was moving into a trap.
Marionette looked around her, gazing at the mess they made, noticing the nobles had already ran away.
Marionette sighed, then deployed a Mana Pulse that covered an area large enough to detect the runaway nobles. But also the spectators hidden behind the trees.
After giving them a glance, Marionette turned to the runaway nobles - disappearing into a dark puddle and slipping away.
Now then, was there a reason why Marionette had suddenly attacked them?
Of course.
They had a keen interest in Lillian; one that she didn’t like one bit. And had surely made inappropriate comments about her girlfriend’s appearance.
But that wasn’t all...
"W-why are you doing this!? What have we done to you?!" Fenlow shouted fearfully, falling on his rear as he watched his friend from the Marris family being dragged into the darkness.
Appearing from the darkness, Marionette walked over to the Fenlow before stomping on his chest - slowly pushing him down into a dark gate that opened beneath him.
"Why?" Marionette thought for a moment, "You could say I was bored."
Marionette was bored and felt an impulsive need to relieve itself. And she was glad that she was given a reason to.
