Chapter 612: Acting Separately From Herself?
Chapter 612: Acting Separately From Herself?
"Nope!" Millis said, smiling innocently as she placed her arms behind her back. "I don’t remember telling Red Eyes anything that could’ve been weird. All I remember is her walking off to find ya."
The Heroine then tilted her head to the other side, still having her mischievous smile, "Did ya assume I might’ve said something that could’ve gotten ya in this mess?"
Lillian stiffened and sighed.
"I did, sorry..."
"Bah~! No need to be sorry, Lils!" Millis waved her hand dismissively, "If ya were tied to a bed, though, then I would’ve definitely had something to do with it."
The Heroine chuckled after saying that, garnering a deadpan look from Lillian, who then sighed again.
"What are you doing here anyway? And was that your Crystalline Ghost Dragonfly?"
Yep, it was mine! Do ya know how long it took me to get that?" Millis ranted, recounting how long she spent getting it before saying, "As for what I’m doing here, ya weren’t answering ya phone."
Lillian tilted her head, "Did you need you for anything?"
The Heroine gave an exaggerated nod, folding her arms with a smug look.
"I want ya to come out and play with me. There are a lot of casinos here that I wanna check out!"
"Ca-... sinos...?" Lillian whispered under her breath, "Why do you wanna go to some casinos?"
"Just to have fun~..." Millis cooed then rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly, "And also because I never went to one before..."
Lillian smirked a bit, then - after a few thoughts - nodded.
"Alright, I’ll come with you."
It was quite the coincidence that Millis wanted to visit some casinos, because that was what she wanted to do as well.
Circulating throughout the first (Mutt) and second (Pooch) rings of the Darkhound territory, there was a dangerous syringe capable of turning people into monsters - powerful ones at that.
Advertised as strong miracle stimulants, these syringes provide individuals with a large temporary increase in power, while secretly hiding the risk of transforming into a horrid abomination.
Currently, it’s only being supplied in small doses; just enough to bring out a person’s latent potential and strength, but not enough to turn them into disgusting monsters.
It was like an Affinity Pill, except it had a lot more risks to it.
At this moment in time, the syringes supplied were merely prototypes, but that would change the next morning when the distributors would be sent the latest version.
This version granted an even bigger boost in strength, but an even higher chance of turning into a monster.
Tonight, Lillian would like to eliminate these distributors before morning - hopefully, decreasing tomorrow’s difficulty.
Millis, hearing that Lillian had agreed to join her, jumped with joy.
"Really!? This is gonna be so~ rad!" The Heroine then stopped and looked at Lillian’s current state, "But we should probably get ya out of these chains, right?"
"I already got a solution in mind for that."
Appearing from thin air, the Rabbit summoned a mystical-looking crown on her head. It was a deep black colour and had neon blue outlines along its sharp edges.
The Drowned King’s Abyssal Crown.
Using the crown’s [Soul Split] enchantment, Lillian separated her soul from her physical body.
Phasing through the metal chains, Lillian’s soul hovered beside her body - floating gracefully. The Rabbit’s soul appeared as a bright cyan blue and looked to be partially covered in heat-less flames, similar to the Drowned King, except less majestic and regal.
For the past few hours that Lillian spent trapped here, the Rabbit had spent them thinking of ways to escape without leaving behind any traces.
She couldn’t break the chains, or else Marionette would be alerted.
She couldn’t leave with her physical body due to Marionette consistently checking up on her every hour.
’So, separating my soul from my body is the only option.’ Lillian thought.
Lillian willed her soul to open her eyes. And when it did, she found herself looking through another perspective.
The feeling was weird and abnormal, like she had another pair of eyes that were detached from her body.
The very moment that Lillian tried to twist her head around, she was assaulted by a variety of sensations she hadn’t ever felt before. Lillian felt her senses were far more sharp, but also more vulnerably sensitive.
She could sense a calm energy permeating through the air, surrounding her on all sides like she was underwater.
It was mana.
There was a common misconception about how a person wielded their mana. Some believed that as long as they had a Mana Core, they would be able to mould and use mana as they saw fit.
But that was wrong.
It was actually the person’s soul that did all the work.
The Mana Core was just an organ that refined the raw mana in the air into refined mana, just like how a person breathes air into their lungs so it could create oxygen.
’Only the human soul can make use of mana...’ Lillian’s soul looked down at her hands, finding the sight of them being blue rather alien.
After seeing that Acus Maris, in the form of a harpoon mark, was still on her left palm, she turned her attention elsewhere - specifically, the mana lingering around her.
She waved her hand around through the air, feeling the mana brush against the surface of her hand like air.
Only the soul can interact with mana directly; such was the relationship between these two, because even the soul was a type of energy as well, closer to mana.
’The human soul is also like a nerve. It is incredibly sensitive and vulnerable, and damage to it can be permanent depending on the circumstances.’
A person could even go as far as to think the physical body was actually just an organ of the soul itself, made so that the soul wouldn’t experience any harm, like the skin of a person’s body.
This was because the moment that the soul was destroyed, there was no coming back - even resurrection wouldn’t save you.
Lillian’s soul turned to look at her physical body, which still operated separately from it. This was because, as long as her soul wasn’t destroyed or rendered inactive, Lillian would still have control over her physical body - no matter where she was.
Looking at her soul, Lillian stared at the crown - that was once on her head - now hovering just an inch above her soul’s head.
After checking that her physical body seemed to still operate as usual, she turned to Millis, who had already widened the hole big enough for the two of them.
