Chapter 50.1 - Mech Contest 1

Chapter 50.1 - Mech Contest 1

After returning to school, Mo Han checked the official website and saw the registration link for the Imperial Mech Contest.

This year’s competition is the same as the previous ones. All college students can register, but to enter the national competitions, they have to go through local auditions and rounds of elimination first. As the largest comprehensive university in the Empire, Hermann University can send five contestants, while some smaller institutions only have three spots.

All students who are interested in mechs can sign up regardless of their level.

Mo Han downloaded the registration form on the spot, filled in the information and submitted it. He quickly received a registration number after passing the initial screen.

In the next week, apart from revising his thesis, he spent the rest of his time going to the school’s mech training center to practice mech operation. The mech console here is similar to the C-class combat mech that Luo Fei taught him, but the training courses are not as difficult as those in a military academy.

Having already learned basic operations from Luo Fei, after repeated practice in the school training room, he slowly grew proficient in controlling mechs.

In the blink of an eye, it was the weekend again. Mo Han and Iman came to St. Romia Military Academy again – Iman pestered Ludwig to learn sniper rifles, puzzling Ludwig. This Iman studied for a whole month, but can’t hit the bullseye; he’s too stupid.

He never guessed Iman to be so thick-skinned that he deliberately said “I can’t learn” in order to be alone with him.

After Luo Fei sent Iman to the shooting training ground, he brought Mo Han to the mech training room.

The two found a black mech and walked into the cockpit together.

Luo Fei looked at Mo Han, smiled and asked, “Did you practice during the week while I was away?”

He sounded like a teacher asking a student.

Mo Han was amused, feeling that Luo Fei, who was pretending to be serious, was cute, so he replied seriously: “Of course. Apart from revising my thesis, I spent the rest of my time in the mech training room, reviewing the mech operations you taught me last week.”

Luo Fei continued to say solemnly: “Then let me check your results.”

He called up the training system, chose a moderate difficulty scenario, walked to the side and let Mo Han sit on the bridge. “Let’s get started.”

A realistic scene soon appeared on the large screen in front of them. This time it was a primitive jungle. There would be many alien creatures attacking the mech, requiring Mo Han to control the mech to shuttle through the jungle and kill those huge creatures.

The number of enemies in medium-difficulty is not large. There’s only one every few seconds, which is enough time for Mo Han to respond.

Mo Han took a deep breath, sat down and looked ahead calmly.

Seeing a green boa constrictor fly towards the mech, Mo Han decisively commanded the mech to take out the electromagnetic knife from under its armpit, and slashed hard – the act of severing the snake from head to tail was neat and clean.

Luo Fei praised: “Very good. Are you afraid of snakes?”

“I’m not like Iman,” Mo Han shook his head. “I’m not afraid of such things.”

Out of curiosity, Luo Fei asked again: “Then do you have any animals that you are afraid of? Like spiders?”

Mo Han said indifferently: “No. Animals are just animals after all. No matter how cruel they are, they are not as scheming as humans. In my opinion, those human beings who are gentle and kind on the surface but actually have vicious thoughts are the most terrifying.”

He stared straight ahead, and his expression was calm when he said this, but Luo Fei couldn’t help thinking about the kidnapping case from back then.

The Mo family would not fabricate a kidnapping case for no reason. Something must have happened to Mo Han, Mo Lin, and their father Fang Ziqian back then. In addition, Mo Han probably saw too much darkness being in a wealthy family when he was young. Because of this, he’s more resistant to people approaching and pursuing him.

Thinking of this, Luo Fei stretched out his hand and patted Mo Han’s shoulder affectionately. “Don’t worry, I’m not the kind of person with a vicious heart, and I don’t have any need to plot against you. I’m the kind of person who is gentle and kind on the outside, and even gentler on the inside.”

Amused by his bravado, Mo Han turned back to look at him. “If you keep talking and distract me, I won’t be able to pass this level.” As soon as he finished speaking, he heard the ear-piercing system alarm – there were two giant creatures attacking from the side. Mo Han didn’t have time to dodge, and the mech immediately fell off balance.

A prompt pops up on the screen: You have failed.

Mo Han looked back at Luo Fei, with a hint of reproach in his eyes.

Luo Fei resisted the urge to kiss him and smiled slightly, “It’s okay, let’s do it again.”

After restarting, Luo Fei stopped disturbing Mo Han, and stood by in seriousness to watch him operate.

Mo Han is really smart and his learning ability is first-class. It only took him a week to practice the basic operations that usually take people a month to master.

On medium difficulty, one needs to frequently perform movements such as running, jumping, and side-sliding, while using basic weaponry to kill ferocious alien beasts. Mo Han did it all methodically with almost no mistakes. He manipulated the mech to run quickly in the jungle, and was able to avoid the attacks of alien creatures every time.

After the training, a prompt popped up on the screen: Training complete, score SSS.

From low to high, the scores are C/B/A/S, and the SSS obtained by Mo Han is also the highest possible score.

Luo Fei praised warmly, “You mastered everything. Before long, you’ll surpass most of your peers.” He paused, then suddenly thought of something, and turned to ask Mo Han, “By the way, the Mech Contest will start next month. Are you interested in signing up and giving it a try?”

“I’ve already signed up,” Mo Han replied.

Luo Fei was startled, then raised the corners of his lips with a smile. “Really? So eager?”

“I want to give it a try and see how good your teaching skills are as a teacher.” Mo Han said lightly.

The smile on the corner of Luo Fei’s lips deepened, and he looked at Mo Han tenderly. “Don’t worry, I will never hold back, and teach you everything I know.”

“After teaching me everything you know, aren’t you afraid of me defeating you in turn?” Mo Han raised his eyebrows and shot back.

“If the apprentice I teach can defeat me, I will be very happy. Would you like to call me master?” Luo Fei couldn’t help joking.

Mo Han frowned and said, “I’m two years older than you, and even called you senior before. Now I need to call you master?”

He can hardly count the number of times Luo Fei took advantage of him verbally. When he was acting, he asked Mo Han to call him senior, but now he asks Mo Han to call him master. He is obviously two years younger, yet his skin is as thick as a city wall.

Caught in the other party’s stare, Luo Fei touched his nose in embarrassment, and said, “I was wrong, I taught you willingly. You don’t need to call me master.”

Mo Han seriously emphasized: “Don’t take advantage of me, remember, I am two years older than you.”

“Understood, Brother Mo Han.” Luo Fei smiled cheekily.

Mo Han: “…”

Hearing Luo Fei call him brother, Mo Han’s heart felt as if he had been gently scratched by a cat. The tingling feeling all over his body made his cheeks feel slightly hot.

Mo Han unexpectedly discovered that he actually liked this title very much, especially when paired with Luo Fei’s tender look. It made his whole heart soften as if seeing an obedient, cute, and gentle puppy.

Of course, Mo Han knows very well that Luo Fei is not a simple little milk dog and can turn into a wolf at any time – it’s just that Luo Fei shows more of his gentle side in front of him.

The sound of “brother” made Mo Han’s heart beat faster, and the atmosphere in the cockpit of the mech became ambiguous.

Luo Fei noticed that the tips of Mo Han’s ears seemed to be a little red, so he asked with concern: “Is it too hot? I’ll lower the temperature.”

Mo Han went along and said smoothly , “En, I think the cockpit is too stuffy.”

Luo Fei immediately adjusted the temperature down a bit before continuing the training.

Since Luo Fei was standing on Mo Han’s right side, he did not notice the round red mole behind Mo Han’s left earlobe. Because Mo Han was sweating a little, the red mole was clearly illuminated and even glowed a bit.
