Chapter 51.1 - Mech Contest 2
Chapter 51.1 - Mech Contest 2
Mo Han learned combat mech operations from Luo Fei for a whole month.
During this period, Luo Fei taught Mo Han all the knowledge and skills he knew without any reservation. Given his intelligence, mental strength, and diligence, Mo Han’s skills improved by leaps and bounds within a month. From the very beginning, he could only be defeated by Luo Fei, and eventually he was able to barely draw a tie with Luo Fei.
Luo Fei appreciates Mo Han’s determination. Mo Han will always do his best in what he decides to do. They spent every weekend in the mech training room, and he never complained about being tired. It is precisely because he studied so seriously that his progress was faster than anyone Luo Fei had ever known.
In a blink of an eye, it was time for the Mech Contest.
On May 1st, all colleges and universities in the Empire started the audition round at the same time.
Luo Fei learned from the official website that the number of students who signed up this year set a new historical record, and exceeded 100,000. Out of these thousands, only 100 will be selected to the final round at Capital Star. With a pass rate of one in one thousand, the competition is quite fierce.
But Luo Fei has great confidence in himself and Mo Han.
Due to the large number of people in the early stage, all schools adopted a point-based system with random draws. Each person will draw ten opponents and play a total of ten games. Finally, the top 100 players within each school will enter the preliminaries based on the number of points won. From there, 36 will advance to the group stage, and finally the top players within each school will be selected based on the number of spots available.
The students of St. Romia Military Academy are generally relatively skilled. Luo Fei encountered many formidable opponents in the audition round, mostly made up of upperclassmen. They have more hands-on experience than him, and their tactical awareness is also better. Fortunately, he managed to win ten games in a row, and successfully entered the top of the local standings.
That night, he took the initiative to call Mo Han, and asked with concern: “Is your school’s audition over? How did you do? You must be fine.”
There was no trace of fatigue on Mo Han’s face, and he looked very calm, as if he didn’t go compete, but instead went for a walk on the street after a simple meal. Sitting on the bed in the bedroom, he replied lightly, “Of course I’m fine. Don’t you know who taught me?”
Luo Fei smiled slightly: “Are you complimenting your instructor?”
“You can treat it as such.” Mo Han nodded.
Luo Fei was in a good mood, and the smile on his lips became even more obvious. “Then I look forward to seeing you on Capital Star. You have to work hard, and not be eliminated halfway.”
Mo Han slightly raised his eyebrows and said, “Relax, I want to win the championship.”
Luo Fei: “…”
This proud and confident appearance really made Luo Fei’s heart itch. He wished he could travel through the holographic network and throw him down and kiss him hard.
Mo Han’s words aren’t pure bravado. He learned everything he could from Luo Fei during these weeks and has passed all the difficult training scenarios within this time. He is very confident in his skills
The opponents he drew today were all average; winning against them was as easy as chopping vegetables. Many students just signed up to join in the fun – there was even an idiot who drove his mech into the ground.
Both Mo Han and Luo Fei entered their school’s respective preliminaries without problem.
After the preliminary and semi-final competitions, the two received confirmation of their entry into the school finals.
The players who’ve survived until now are obviously more skilled. In the group stage, Mo Han was placed in Group C and met a very formidable opponent — a 4th year Mech Manufacturing senior named Bolt. Iman said that he participated in the championship last year and won third place. This year, he wants to take part in one last time before graduation to see if he can win the championship.
Mo Han fought Bolt for three rounds. He lost the first round due to a moment of carelessness, but quickly remembered his lessons and focused, eventually winning the second round with some hardship. However, in the third round, Bolt came on top and defeated him with his rich experience.
When Bolt came out of the cockpit, he smiled and shook hands with Mo Han. “You’re very good.”
“Senior is even better.” Mo Han replied politely.
Bolt said: “I can beat you because I have more combat experience. But you learn fast and your tricks in the second game were quite beautiful. It should not be a problem to enter the nationals with your skills.”
Mo Han was very happy to be affirmed by his seniors, and put in even more effort in the next round.
On May 5th, the local competitions wrapped up, and Mo Han finally won a spot to participate in the national finals on Capital Star.
Iman came in first and Bolt took second place.
Regarding this, Iman couldn’t believe it. He looked at Mo Han with wide eyes and said, “You’ve only learned mechs for more than a month, and you actually made it to the finals, and even won third place?”
Mo Han said indifferently: “I was taught by Luo Fei.”
Iman was stunned, and immediately passed this news onto Luo Fei: “Mo Han won the third place in our school’s mech competition, and also said that you’re a good teacher!”
Luo Fei was ecstatic. He didn’t expect Mo Han to praise him in front of Iman. Being his teacher for more than a month was really not in vain.
After the internal competitions wrapped up, there was a one-week buffer time before the competition resumed. During this downtime, Mo Han asked Iman to teach him more mech knowledge.
Unlike Luo Fei who solely taught Mo Han mech operations, Iman taught Mo Han professional knowledge, for example, the difference between different forms of mech, where the core system is installed, and which parts are ancillary to mech functioning, or what parts a mech requires to function.
He was born in a mech family, and is a top student in the mech manufacturing department, so he naturally has a solid understanding of mechs.
After learning a lot from Iman, Mo Han’s driving skills rose to a new level.

On the weekend, Mo Han came to St. Romia Military Academy to look for Luo Fei and brought Luo Fei a gift.
The students who won the local competition and will compete in on Capital Star will also get a reward on top of a certificate issued by the school. Mo Han used the money to buy a small gift for Luo Fei — the same official custom-made “Law of the Jungle” game accessory.
Previously, Luo Fei gave him a customized version of Mr. F, and Mo Han prepared for him a customized version of MH.
Since his character MH in the game is based on his own appearance, the model is the same as him. Holding a delicate pistol in its hand, it can even respond to simple questions in Mo Han’s voice, just like a miniature version of Mo Han himself.
When Luo Fei saw this gift, he couldn’t put it down.
He held the miniature version of Mo Han in his palm, lightly poked “Little Mo Han” on the head with his fingers with a smile. “It’s so cute!”
Seeing his eyes brighten, Mo Han’s mood softened a little, and his voice was gentle: “As long as you like it.”
Luo Fei thought that Mo Han gave him this model because he gave Mo Han the model of Mr. F before; this was a polite reciprocation of that.
It never occurred to him that there was a deeper meaning behind Mo Han’s gift.
In fact, Mo Han has already fallen in love with him, but Mo Han is not as straightforward as him, nor is he in the habit of expressing his heart.

On May 10th, the National Finals of the Mech Contest began in Capital Star.
Top players from various galaxies and different schools gathered together, and were drawn into groups under the arrangement of the referees.
Luo Fei saw Mo Han at a glance in the crowd. Just then, Mo Han turned his head and they exchanged glances from a distance. Luo Fei showed him a bright smile and made a “good luck” gesture; Mo Han also smiled, and nodded towards Luo Fei.
At that moment, it was as if everyone around them had turned into air, and only the two of them were present.
After the groupings, all contestants went back to the hotel near the competition site. Mo Han and Luo Fei happened to live on the same floor. After unpacking, Luo Fei immediately rushed to find Mo Han.
Mo Han had just taken a shower and was wearing casual pajamas as he welcomed him. Luo Fei suppressed his heartbeat and said with a calm smile, “I just saw the groupings. You’re the upper bracket of Group A, and I’m in the lower bracket of Group B. We’ll have to wait until the end to compete.”
Mo Han said, “Is there someone named Bolt in your group? Player 1793.”
Luo Fei was a little surprised: “Yes, you know him?”
Mo Han nodded. “Bolt is the number one player in our school, and he won third place in the national tournament last year. He is very strong.”1Not sure why he said Bolt is #1 – but I checked the rankings and Iman was 1st, Bolt 2nd, yet MH still said he’s #1.
Luo Fei understood what he meant, and smiled: “I know, I’ll be careful.”
There are four people in each group, and only two will advance to the next round. Mo Han didn’t know any of the other players in his group.
At nine o’clock in the morning on the 11th, all 100 players started their competitions at the same time. Mo Han won three games in a row and entered the next round as the number one in his group.
At nine o’clock in the morning on the 12th, 50 contestants faced off in the second round. Mo Han won his opponent and entered the third round.
Like this Mo Han, who had never driven a combat mech before last month actually made it all the way to the top eight!
The competition in the quarter-finals is a more brutal best-of-three knockout tournament, which will be officially broadcast live on Empire TV, and many important figures will come to watch the game in person.
This includes Major General Ling An, Queen Lin Yuan who is very interested in the mech competition, and Mr. Brian, the current president of the Mech Association.
The three sat side by side in the VIP viewing seats.
When the eight contestants entered the arena, everyone’s profile was enlarged on the huge holographic screen. Luo Fei’s face looked extraordinarily handsome on the big screen.
Seeing his own son, Lin Yuan was filled with pride: “Luo Fei really made it to the finals. I didn’t teach for so many years in vain.”
Lin Yuan also participated in the mech competition back then. He taught Luo Fei how to use mechs since his son was a child; it can be said that Luo Fei’s fighting skills were all taught by him.
When Brian heard this, he smiled and said, “Iman has also entered the finals. He has indeed inherited my super talent.”
When Lin Yuan heard this, he couldn’t help rolling his eyes. “Iman was led astray by you!”
Brian said: “My Iman is so cute! It’s rare to see such a lively and active omega. Those people just don’t know how to appreciate him.”
Lin Yuan argued in a low voice: “Iman took the initiative to ask an alpha to mark him when he was a child, scaring away many alphas with one sentence. If it wasn’t you, who else would’ve taught him this?”
Brian looked proud: “Of course I taught him.”
Lin Yuan: “…”
Ling An didn’t comment because his eyes were on another contestant — Mo Han?
Mo Han actually made it to the finals. It seems that during this period of time, Luo Fei taught him how to learn combat mechs. He has a premonition that Mo Han will definitely shine in this competition.
Keeping the next half of this chapter shorter as there’s a natural break point
