Drip…
Drip…
Blood slowly dripped from Lackey’s fingertips as he rose from the massacre ground. The entire zoo had transformed into a crimson nightmare.
Corpses littered every direction his eyes could reach, some twisted into unnatural positions while others lay torn apart amidst pools of thick blood that reflected the flickering emergency lights above.
Yet despite standing in the centre of such carnage, Lackey’s ice-blue eyes remained disturbingly calm… They resembled a frozen lake untouched by wind or storm, carrying neither satisfaction nor regret.
Something inside those eyes had changed during the slaughter. Whatever humanity had once occupied them seemed buried beneath an endless layer of cold indifference capable of freezing… even the warmest soul.
As his gaze drifted across the corpses, he noticed a golden object protruding from the back of one of the bodies. Curious, he crouched beside the corpse and brushed away the blood-soaked clothing covering its spine.
Embedded directly into the flesh rested a golden crystal device remarkably similar to the protective equipment attached to the cuffs of the otherworlders.
Without hesitation, he gripped the device and pulled.
The crystal slid free with ease, dragging strands of blood and tissue along with it. Lackey examined it silently before placing it against his palm.
Sh…Shhhh~
That device attached to his skin like Velcro, and instantly a second thin invisible layer spread across his skin like liquid glass wrapping itself around him.
*Hmm… useful maybe.*
He gave a slight nod before removing it and storing it in his storage before beginning to gather the crystal devices from the dead bodies, collecting them alongside any weapons that appeared useful.
Above the zoo, the barrier protecting the facility had already begun collapsing. Countless fractures crawled across its surface while violent impacts from outside sent visible shockwaves through the structure.
It would not survive much longer.
Yet Lackey showed no urgency.
He simply continued gathering supplies while walking through rivers of blood as casually as someone strolling through a market.
How was he supposed to escape when the entire zoo had already been surrounded by hundreds of Mech-Suits and Drones, all waiting for a single opportunity to capture him?
The Answer was already there… He arrived before the general restroom.
The entrance looked like the mouth of hell itself.
Blood coated the walls.
Severed limbs lay scattered nearby.
Several corpses had been piled before the entrance, creating a grotesque barricade of flesh and bone.
Without a word, Lackey pushed the corpses aside.
The bodies slid across the floor, leaving thick crimson trails behind.
Then he unlocked the door quietly and…
Step!
Disappeared.
The door swayed gently back and forth as if it were breathing.
Several minutes passed.
Then blood-covered fingers suddenly wrapped around the edge of the doorway.
The trembling hand tightened desperately before slowly pulling the door open.
A man emerged.
His body shook violently.
Blood covered his clothing.
Dark bruises stained his skin.
His eyes darted frantically around the corridor as if expecting death to leap from every shadow.
The trauma etched across his face ran deeper than physical wounds. It had rooted itself within his mind, carving scars that would likely remain for the rest of his life.
Behind him, another survivor stepped out.
Then another.
Then another.
One by one, they emerged from the restroom like ghosts returning from a grave.
Some limped.
Some could barely stand.
One woman clutched a mangled arm while tears streamed endlessly down her face.
A young boy remained frozen near the doorway, unable to force himself forward despite everyone else moving.
After the massacre, only ten survivors remained.
Ten!
Out of everyone trapped within the zoo.
The monster responsible for the slaughter had shoved them into the restroom before sealing the entrance with corpses. For hours, they had huddled together in darkness while listening to unimaginable horrors unfold beyond the door.
The screams.
The gunfire.
The desperate cries for mercy.
The sounds of bodies hitting the floor.
The terrifying laughter~
Most horrifying of all had been the singing~!
Even now, several survivors could still hear that distant melody echoing through their memories.
A cheerful tune.
A playful tune.
A tune completely detached from the slaughter accompanying it~
The monster had sung while people died.
He had hummed while blood flowed.
He had walked through the zoo like a devil performing on a stage built from corpses.
The memory alone made several survivors break down immediately.
They had been certain they would die.
Every passing second inside that restroom had felt like waiting for an executioner to open the door.
Yet somehow they remained alive.
Confusion lingered briefly across their faces.
Then they finally saw the aftermath of the battlefield.
The corpses… The blood.
The shattered remains of people they knew.
The endless sea of death stretches across the zoo.
One woman suddenly staggered forward.
“No… no… no…”
Her voice cracked apart.
She stumbled through the bodies while desperately searching the crowd of dead faces.
Then she found him.
A man.
Her husband.
Half buried beneath several corpses.
The moment she recognised him, a scream tore from her throat with such force that even the other survivors flinched.
“NOOOOOOOO! PLEASE! PLEASE WAKE UP!”
She collapsed beside him and grabbed his blood-covered shoulders, desperately trying to shake life back into a body that would never answer again.
Nearby, a teenage boy suddenly dropped to his knees.
His eyes had locked onto a familiar figure lying motionless beside a broken bench.
“FATTHHHEERRRR!!”
He crawled across the blood-soaked ground so quickly that his hands slipped repeatedly through the crimson puddles beneath him.
“MOOTTHHHERRRRR!!!”
One by one, grief erupted across the bloodfield.
Some hugged corpses while begging them to wake up.
Others simply stood motionless, their minds refusing to accept what their eyes witnessed.
They had never believed they would escape this place alive. Watching their loved ones die before their eyes and seeing fellow human beings reduced to nothing more than mangled piles of flesh and blood filled them with overwhelming nausea and horror.
The nightmare surrounding them felt so unreal that several survivors struggled to convince themselves they were still alive.
“Sir, the signal is coming from here! We’ve found survivors!”
Just then, a mechanical voice echoed across the blood-soaked massacre site. Moments later, the shattered barrier trembled violently as the Beta Soldiers finally arrived, pushing through the damaged perimeter and entering the devastated zoo.
Their weapons glimmered with blue energy beneath the battlefield’s blood-stained lights, every soldier remaining on high alert as though they expected an enemy to emerge from the shadows at any moment.
Even a brief lapse in concentration could prove fatal.
However, the moment the Leader noticed the survivors and heard the raw grief within their screams, his expression darkened. His fist tightened before he raised a hand toward his troops.
“Lower your weapons,” he ordered before immediately turning toward the medical personnel.
“Rescue Team, move in! Get those people medical attention immediately!”
“Understood!”
Within seconds, specialised rescue personnel rushed forward.
Several metallic spheres detached from their equipment and floated into the air. Blue holographic interfaces expanded around them as advanced medical AIs began scanning survivors. Streams of data appeared above every injured person, displaying heart rate, neural activity, blood loss, internal damage, and emergency treatment recommendations.
The moment the rescue teams approached, the emotional restraint many survivors had been maintaining completely shattered.
“MOMMYYY!!”
“DADDYYY!!”
“MY DARRRRRLLINNGGGG!!!”
Their cries echoed throughout the massacre site while medical personnel desperately attempted to calm them.
One man repeatedly tried to crawl back toward the corpse of his wife despite having severe injuries himself.
Several survivors simply sat motionless.
They neither cried nor spoke.
Their eyes stared into empty space as though their minds had abandoned reality entirely.
The unit leader watched everything in silence.
Years of military service had exposed him to disasters, terrorist attacks, and monster outbreaks, yet something about this scene felt different.
The fear lingering inside the survivors wasn’t merely grief.
It was terror.
Pure fucking terror!
The kind created by encountering something so overwhelmingly dangerous that the human mind could barely comprehend it.
“Secure the entire perimeter,” he ordered.
The surrounding soldiers immediately activated.
Reconnaissance drones launched into the sky.
The leader continued coldly, “And if you find a single one of those bastards responsible for this slaughter, don’t hesitate. Put a fucking bullet through their brains.”
“YES, SIR!”
The soldiers dispersed throughout the bloodfield.
Meanwhile, the leader opened a secure communication channel through his visor.
“Commander, this is Rescue Unit Five. We have located… eleven survivors. Five are critically injured. Six have minor physical injuries but are displaying severe psychological trauma. Medical treatment is already underway.”
“Copy that.”
The commander’s voice carried through the encrypted channel.
“We need information. Ask them what happened here and determine the current location of the perpetrators.”
The leader glanced toward the survivors.
Several couldn’t stop shaking.
One woman was hyperventilating.
Another survivor appeared incapable of recognising the people around him.
“Sir, with respect, they’re barely holding themselves together.”
Several seconds passed.
Then the response arrived.
“Orders remain unchanged.”
The leader exhaled slowly.
“Understood.”
He approached one of the survivors and crouched beside him.
The man’s entire body trembled uncontrollably.
“Sir,” the leader said carefully. “Can you tell me what happened here?”
No response.
The survivor continued staring forward.
“Did you see the attackers?”
Nothing.
The leader gently touched his shoulder.
Instantly, the man recoiled in horror.
His pupils dilated.
His breathing became frantic.
He scrambled backwards across the ground as though expecting the monster to suddenly appear and finish what had started hours earlier.
The reaction caused several nearby medics to immediately intervene.
“That’s enough.”
The rescue specialist stepped between them.
“These people survived a massacre. They watched friends and family die. Some of them spent hours believing they would be next… Give them time before forcing them to relive everything.”
The leader remained silent, staring at those dead expressions and pains.
Eventually, he nodded.
At that moment, evacuation stretchers arrived.
These devices floated several centimetres above the ground through localised gravity manipulation systems. Soft blue particles flowed beneath them while stabilisation fields automatically adjusted to the condition of each patient.
Several survivors didn’t even notice when the stretchers positioned themselves beneath their bodies.
The glowing fields gently lifted them into the air.
Medical drones immediately surrounded them, administering treatment while continuously monitoring their vital signs.
One by one, the survivors were escorted toward the waiting evacuation vehicles beyond the Zoo.
The ambulances themselves looked more like miniature mobile hospitals, their interiors filled with autonomous surgical systems, regeneration pods, and advanced life-support technology capable of treating injuries that would have been fatal only a few decades ago.
The Leader turned toward another survivor who sat clutching a corpse against his chest, hoping he might finally obtain some information about what had happened. However, just like the others, the man seemed completely detached from reality.
His eyes remained fixed upon the lifeless body in his arms, and no matter how many times the Leader spoke to him, there was no response. It was as though his mind had become trapped somewhere between the nightmare he had witnessed and the reality standing before him.
The Leader was preparing to move on when an enraged scream suddenly exploded across the massacre site.
“YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU ALL BEEN?!”
