Chapter 1905: Facing President?
Chapter 1905: Facing President?
The Test Match Arena was filled with the stench of blood, while piles of dead bodies lay scattered across the arena like a mountain of flesh.
The spectators, who were usually shouting and cheering throughout the matches, had fallen completely silent. Many of them simply stared at the arena, struggling to process the horror they had just witnessed with their own eyes.
They knew death was part of the Test Match.
Everyone who entered the arena understood that they might not walk out alive. But being slaughtered in such a vicious and merciless way… that was something entirely different.
And the way that man had played with his opponents, treating them as though their lives were nothing more than a source of amusement…
That definitely had not been on their list of things they expected to witness today.
“…” Delta Governor sat in complete silence as he watched Lackey finally leave the arena after massacring 2,000 opponents.
His eyes remained fixed on the screen displaying the aftermath, while his fingers slowly tightened against the armrest.
And it was not as though Lackey had decided to stop.
No.
It was more accurate to say that the participants had finally realised they had no chance of surviving against him. After witnessing such a one-sided massacre, they did not even think twice before backing away.
With no participants willing to continue, the entire test match came to a halt. Lackey was forced to accept his victory and leave the arena.
Even after provoking them repeatedly and deliberately trying to bait them into attacking, they refused to fall for it.
Whatever courage they had possessed before entering the arena had disappeared the moment they saw the mountain of flesh behind him.
No one was foolish enough to throw their life away when they already knew they had no chance of surviving.
NOPE!
That was suicide!!
And just like that, Lackey became the sole winner of the Test Match.
The remaining participants could only let out quiet sighs of relief, knowing that they would never have to face that monster again in the Test Match.
“Hah… It seems your subordinates were torn apart rather thoroughly,” Beta said with an amused tone as she glanced toward the screen, where the remains of Delta Governor’s subordinates were barely distinguishable among the mountain of flesh.
She turned her gaze toward him and added casually, “Good luck finding enough of them to bury.”
Beta stood up from the sofa and walked away without waiting for a response.
Delta clenched his fist beneath the armrest, his teeth grinding audibly inside his visor. His blue eyes remained fixed on the image of Lackey, burning with restrained fury.
“That lowly slave… I will personally put him in his place,” he growled before slamming his fist against the armrest.
Meanwhile, Beta exited the VIP section, with the Commander following closely behind her.
“Get the car. We will be leaving,” Beta said coldly.
The Commander gave a silent nod before separating from her to carry out the order.
Beta waited in the corridor, leaning casually against the wall, until Lackey eventually came through the entrance of the base. The moment he noticed her waiting there, his expression immediately brightened.
“How was my fight?” he asked without the slightest trace of concern, as though he had merely finished an ordinary training session.
Beta stared at him for a moment before giving him an awkward smile.
“It was… good.”
Good?
No.
It was far worse than good.
It was not that he had lost. If anything, he had won far too decisively. The way he had fought had been so brutal that she was not even sure whether she should support him or feel sorry for the people who had been unfortunate enough to stand against him.
Lackey chuckled, seemingly amused by her expression. “So, what now? I can just go to the Main Arena and start the next fight?”
“Oh, oh! Hold your horses, God.” Beta raised one hand toward him, stopping him before he could get any further.
“I remember you saying something about… keeping a low profile?”
Lackey blinked.
For a moment, his expression remained completely blank, as though his mind had suddenly encountered an inconvenient piece of information.
Beta narrowed her eyes at him.
“You… forgot about that, didn’t you?”
“I… don’t know what you’re talking about,” Lackey replied, deliberately looking away.
“…”
“…”
Neither of them said anything for several seconds.
Finally, Lackey sighed before placing one hand over her mech-suit shoulder. A confident, almost absurdly cheerful smile spread across his face.
“Everything is under my control.”
He raised his other hand and gave her a thumbs-up.
Beta slowly looked down at his hand before raising her eyes toward him again.
“…Really?”
“Absolutely.”
“Even though that man might have noticed you after everything you just did?”
“…”
“God?”
Lackey remained silent for another moment before slowly turning his head toward her.
“Absolutely. Just believe in your God, my dear child~” he said in a deliberately profound tone, his expression returning to complete confidence.
Beta continued staring at him without saying a word.
Honestly, she would have bowed her head right then and there after hearing his words, but… she did not know why, but she felt as though she had started to lose her faith in him.
She simply sighed. “Anyway, that’s it for today. Even if you wanted to fight in the Main Arena, the Colosseum wouldn’t allow it, since all the slots for today have already been filled. We can only hope they give us a slot tomorrow or the day after.”
Lackey sighed as well. “Well, too bad, then…” He shook his head before continuing, “I guess it’s time to go home.”
He started walking forward without another word.
Beta blinked.
Home?
That word suddenly felt distant and cold… almost as if she had forgotten what having a home felt like.
A home that was once filled with laughter, teasing, and countless small moments—
“Beta?” Lackey called back to her.
Beta quickly snapped out of her thoughts and followed after him.
“Is it alright if I speak your language? I mean… I am supposed to be an Otherworlder, right?” Lackey asked.
Even though he had not spoken their language particularly fluently during the Test Match, he had still managed to speak it here and there.
Beta shook her head.
“It’s fine. We have devices that allow Otherworlders to understand our language and even speak it themselves.”
“I see…” Lackey let out a soft sigh, as though he had only just remembered that he was supposed to be maintaining the appearance of an Otherworlder.
As they continued walking, Beta explained that the Colosseum staff would inform her as soon as a slot had been allocated to him. She also spoke about some of the things that had happened inside the Colosseum, along with other small details regarding the Main Arena.
Their conversation continued casually as they made their way through the corridor.
Then, a tailed mech-suit walked past them.
Lackey’s steps suddenly stopped.
He slowly turned his head and stared at the tailed mech-suit as it continued walking away from them.
Beta halted as well when she noticed that he had stopped. Following his gaze, she quietly said,
“That’s the Alpha Governor, the second-in-command of this Empire, right after the President.”
Lackey continued staring at the tailed figure for several seconds.
Then, without saying a word, he turned his head back and continued walking.
Beta followed right beside him.
As they walked away, Alpha suddenly halted her steps.
She slowly turned around and looked toward Lackey and Beta, who were gradually disappearing into the corridor.
She stood there motionlessly for a few seconds, her gaze lingering on them as though something about the encounter had caught her attention.
Then, without saying anything, she turned around and continued walking.
Soon after, the Commander brought the car toward the entrance of the Colosseum.
Beta entered the car, and just as Lackey was about to get inside, a nearby surveillance camera suddenly moved.
Its lens slowly zoomed toward his face, focusing directly on Lackey as he entered the vehicle.
The camera then shifted its focus toward the car as it began to drive away.
Once the vehicle disappeared from its field of view, the camera seemed to lose its connection for a brief second.
The image flickered.
Then, the connection returned, and the camera quietly moved back into its usual position before continuing its routine monitoring as though nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, inside the car, Lackey sat silently while staring through the window.
The scenery outside passed by in a blur, but he barely seemed to notice it. His expression remained blank, though there was a faint confusion in his eyes.
The image of his ex kept flashing through his mind again and again.
The way she had killed her mother…
And him…
Without hesitation.
Her face continued appearing in his thoughts, no matter how hard he tried to push it away.
Her eyes.
That cold, emotionless gaze.
It was the look of someone who no longer saw him as the person she once loved.
She had looked at him as though he were nothing more than an enemy.
Her eyes still filled his mind, appearing again and again no matter how hard he tried to push the memory away. After remaining silent for a while, Lackey finally spoke, his voice quieter than before.
“Why is she here?” he asked curiously, his gaze still fixed on the passing scenery outside the window.
Beta, who had been sitting silently beside him, blinked and turned toward him.
“She failed her previous mission, so the President threw her into the Tournament to retain her Order.
It is not exactly a punishment in the ordinary sense, but failure is not something the President tolerates lightly.
The Tournament is where people who have fallen from their positions are forced to prove that they still deserve to hold them.”
Lackey slowly turned his attention toward her.
“Hmm? Order?”
Beta nodded as she settled more comfortably into her seat and began explaining.
“Each division has a Ranking Order, and that Order determines a Governor’s authority, influence, and position within the Empire. My current ranking Order is Second, directly beneath Alpha, who holds First. The higher your Order, the greater your authority becomes, and the more seriously everyone around you is expected to treat your words.”
Lackey listened quietly.
“You remember that guy who hurt you during the registration?” Beta asked. “Iron Marshal was actually Second Order before me. However, he failed to conquer the Empires during the first wave of armies. That failure was enough for the President to strip him of his position and throw him into the Tournament.”
She paused for a moment before continuing, her voice becoming slightly more serious.
“I managed to defeat him there and took the Second Order for myself. Ever since then, he has been furious with me. He believes that I stole something that belonged to him, even though he was the one who lost it.”
Lackey hummed thoughtfully as he leaned back against the seat.
“So the Tournament is not just entertainment.”
“No,” Beta replied immediately. “It may look like entertainment to the spectators, but for the Governors… Positions, authority, reputation, and sometimes even survival can be decided inside that arena.”
Lackey’s eyes narrowed slightly as he absorbed her explanation.
“I see… Then is there a way to face the President?”
The car suddenly stopped violently.
The sudden halt threw Lackey slightly forward in his seat. The Commander immediately tightened both hands around the steering wheel before turning his head toward him.
“Face the President?” he demanded. “What the fuck are you talking about?”
Beta’s expression immediately turned cold.
“Commander, continue driving.”
The Commander looked at her as though he could not believe what he was hearing.
“But, Governor, he is talking about facing the President. Do you understand what that means? If someone overhears him saying something like that, we could be labelled as rebels. The moment word reaches the President, he will come for us personally.”
His voice carried genuine fear beneath the anger. He knew better than anyone that the President was not someone ordinary people casually spoke about challenging.
Beta sighed and looked toward him.
“It’s alright. Just drive.”
“B-But, Governor—”
“Commander.”
Her voice became colder.
“…Understood.”
He clenched the steering wheel and started driving again. His jaw remained tight as his eyes occasionally flickered toward Lackey through the rearview mirror.
He could hardly believe what he was witnessing.
His Governor was actually taking the side of a slave she had brought into the Empire, even after that slave had casually spoken about challenging the President.
And the Commander was not being dramatic.
If even a whisper of this conversation reached the wrong ears, everything could go straight to hell.
The President did not need proof to become suspicious, and suspicion alone could be enough to destroy everyone involved.
Beta turned toward Lackey. “Yes, you can face the President through the Tournament,” she said calmly.
“However, reaching him is an entirely different matter.”
Lackey raised an eyebrow.
“You have to go through every Governor before you are allowed to challenge him. Every division has someone standing between you and the President, and each one is expected to stop anyone who attempts to climb that far.”
She looked directly into his eyes.
“And so far, no one has ever managed to reach the end.”
Lackey became silent.
His mind slowly processed everything she had told him.
If the Tournament could truly lead him to the President, then he had finally found a path toward the person he wanted to meet.
His lips slowly curled into a sly grin.
‘Then I’m interested in this Tournament.’
Meanwhile, far away from them… Inside the Crown Engine.
A deep-black mech-suit stood silently before an enormous display.
On the massive display, recordings of Alpha’s recent battle played repeatedly.
The system analysed every movement.
The way Alpha had defeated the monster.
The precise movement of her mech-suit.
The synchronisation between her body and the suit.
The amount of force generated by each strike.
Even the tiny delays in the suit’s response were carefully examined.
The deep-black mech-suit watched everything without moving for several seconds.
“Hmm…” it finally hummed, its voice deep and strangely calm.
The recording paused on Alpha’s final attack.
“Any information about the Chain World?”
A beautiful woman standing nearby immediately stepped forward.
“The information remains incomplete, President. Gamma has been sending its autonomous robots toward the Chain World, but none of them has managed to get close enough to properly investigate it. Every unit either loses communication or becomes unable to proceed before reaching the outer boundary.”
She hesitated before adding, “We still haven’t discovered an entry point.”
The President remained motionless for several moments.
Then his head slowly turned toward the woman.
“Then send the slaves. We cannot afford to have Governors die for nothing.”
The woman lowered her head.
“Understood, President. I will arrange it immediately.”
“Soon… Very soon…”
His voice became quieter as he slowly turned his gaze toward a statue of a woman standing at the far end of the chamber.
The statue stood alone beneath the dim light.
The President stared at it silently.
