Chapter 478 – A Rising Sect Against the Divine
[Saturn.]
William’s eyes were as bright as Miss Sun’s mask at that instant, or even brighter.
Diaila took a couple of steps back, suddenly feeling as if she were surrounded by thousands of swords ready to impale her from head to toe.
Her heart trembled with uncontrollable fear, and she took another step back when she saw the huge cross-like sword hovering behind William, like a projection granted by the world.
The other members of the Fallen Sect watched with the same interest.
Cassius, Lord Earth, was smiling himself at that moment, even more certain that he had made the right choice in choosing William.
Because the way the Saturn Card reacted to him showed how much affinity he had with it, and that was always a good thing.
The vision didn’t last forever, however.
A couple of seconds later, the sword hanging behind William turned into a silver gas and swiftly entered his body.
The card in his hand transformed into a mask, and without the slightest reaction, William lazily slipped it over his face, as though nothing extraordinary had happened.
The mask was silver, bearing the cold, pale sheen of frost. Upon its surface, seven swords were intricately inscribed, each one seemingly orbiting the two openings through which William’s eyes could be seen, openings that were themselves shaped like... swords.
His aura changed completely, becoming lethal and sharp like an unsheathed blade.
He took a deep breath, the sound like the hum of a blade slashing through the wind. Gathering himself, the young man slowly turned his attention back to his new comrades.
William was still confused about how he had ended up here so suddenly in the middle of the night. Or rather, how he had accepted things just like that.
But the mere thought of what that Swordbook could mean for his prowess made the decision feel worth it.
’As long as they don’t ask me for something I can’t do. As long as they don’t, I won’t have any problem,’ he whispered in his mind, slowly clenching his hands. To him, nothing was more important than keeping one’s own conviction and principles free of taint.
So William spoke, his voice piercing yet flat, with no emotion behind it. "My Swordbook?"
Diaila stared at him, her mask still on her face, and wondered how this man could say something like this after everything that had just happened.
Wasn’t there something more important than a damn Swordbook?
’Like who these people are, for example? Is he really a fool?’ The Lady of Mars pursed her lips, still bitter that she had gained nothing from this recruitment. It was obvious these bastards didn’t hold her in high regard.
"Relax, Will," Lord Earth whispered, standing up from his blood throne. "We will not risk earning your ire and dissatisfaction over something that is of no use to us."
He summoned a book from his space ring, the Sword of Horizon’s Swordbook itself, and raised it in front of him. At the same time, he walked towards William, his steps making no sound at all. "Only you can use this thing properly, anyway. So, take this as a gift and as a challenge."
"A challenge?" William, now Saturn, echoed, his voice holding a note of confusion.
"The one who created this book had no hope that anyone could have a talent for the sword high enough to understand it." Lord Earth stopped just two or three steps from Saturn. He held the book out to him, his voice carrying the wavelength of a smile. "I hope you will prove him wrong."
William looked at the book and knew it was the exact one. The sword aura was unmistakable. He was immediately satisfied with the sincerity of this group of people.
Reaching out his hand, he took the Swordbook and barely stopped himself from opening it right away to start his training.
Instead, he stored it inside his space ring. Next, William looked at Earth, then at the three masked women still sitting lazily on their thrones.
He cocked his head, his eyes travelling up and down Earth’s body, and nodded to himself as if understanding something.
"Yes," he said, like a confirmation. "You are definitely Cassius Desdemona."
A dead silence followed his words, broken only by the Lady of Mars.
"Huh?" Diaila exclaimed, snapping her head towards them. "What? How can you even tell?"
’I had thought the same thing, but how can this bastard be so sure of himself when I am still doubting?’
"How else?" William pointed at Cassius, then at the three women. "One man, three women. That’s already something Cassius would do. He is rarely with men."
Cassius’s lips twitched heavily. Behind him, the women barely stopped themselves from bursting into laughter.
William was not done yet.
"Added to that, the way he talks to me is almost exactly the same as the way Cassius usually does," he continued. "And the way my Formless Intent reacts to his presence is practically identical, too. I can’t be entirely certain because of the Mask, but the similarities are strong enough to make me consider the possibility. Lastly, he called Mercury his wonderful wife, which is precisely the sort of thing I can imagine Cassius saying. And the way he introduced Sun and Moon was so very Cassius-like that..."
William paused, looking seriously at Earth.
"You are Cassius," he concluded, then turned his gaze toward Mercury. "And you are Isolde. As for the other two, I can’t figure out their identities just yet."
"Let me help you. Sun is a Worm bitch who can somehow tell when someone is lying," Diaila said instinctively. Instantly, she felt the hard glare coming from Miss Worm and immediately regretted her quick mouth.
"Worm?" William muttered.
"Well, husband," Mercury laughed. "I think you have become way too recognizable. Not the kind of thing you would expect from the leader of a hidden sect, right?"
"Give me a break, Isolde," Cassius sighed. He pulled off his Mask, showing his face to both William and Diaila.
Even though they had somehow already guessed it, it was still shocking to actually see that it was him.
’It’s... really him?’ Diaila thought in a daze. ’The angel?’
"My flair for melodrama will be my downfall one day," Cassius said with a faint smile, before wrapping his arm around William’s shoulders. "But what do you mean, I am always with women? You think I chose this life?"
"Yes."
"Will, I recruited you to have another male in this women-infested sect. Don’t turn against me. I want us to form a united front against them."
"You sound like you were being bullied."
"And I was!"
"Don’t listen to him," Isolde said, also taking off her mask. "He is a Drama Queen."
"But isn’t that his charm?" Sarah followed, her mask off as well, shaking her head slightly, her blue hair swaying. "That’s what you said at your wedding."
"Don’t you understand, Sarah? Everyone says nice things to their partner at their wedding," Meadow followed, smiling sharply at Diaila.
To say William and Diaila were surprised to see Sarah and Meadow, two people they would never have imagined involved in something like this, as the other two members would be the understatement of the age.
How were these two involved in this?
The answer was obvious, and they both looked at Cassius.
The Last Born of the Desdemona, the Family of Monsters, smiled kindly at them.
"Well, I guess we have things to discuss." He let go of William’s shoulders after patting him like a good friend and walked back to his throne. "Where should I start, hm?"
"How about our Patrons, the three goddesses?"
"Oh, yes, of course." Cassius clapped. He sat on his throne, eyes on the two new members, and parted his lips. "Let me start by introducing you to Ananke, also known as the Queen of Fate; to Tysche, also known as Lady Luck; and to Marvela, also known as Sleeping Beauty. All of them goddesses. All of them our lovely support, who made all of this possible. So, out of respect for their names and support, I will kindly ask you to Praise them, even though you might not believe... yet."
He paused and smiled at them again.
"Start with the Queen."
[ARGHHHH! This is unfair! Unfair!] Lady Luck screamed in protest.
[Tysche, I believe it’s time we revolt against this obvious preferential treatment!] Marvela followed.
Ananke, meanwhile, was smiling smugly, sipping a delicious divine tea brewed from the breast milk of a She-Cow. [What a good day to be the favorite.]
Cassius smiled wryly as both Tysche and Marvela jumped on Ananke. The latter simply dodged them, continuing to sip her tea with a smile.
[A good day, indeed.]
’So childish,’ Cassius thought, and then, without interruption, began to explain his whole plan for the Sect.
And this time, the Last Born planned to make these people understand that he needed them to become extremely strong.
For this Sect would play an important role in his Endeavor of taking the Three Books.
In his endeavor...
’To save my family, and my friend, Kaden.’
The Fallen... was rising.
...
At the same time, while Cassius was preparing for a battle against the divine with members of the Golden Generation, a consequence — or, to put it less negatively, a result — of his actions had rippled outward.
Inside Sea Wealth’s mansion, Seraphim Hood was sitting on the bed.
Theophane was on a chair in front of the bar, drinking juice, her back to the Princess. Sea was outside, sitting on a reclining chair, looking at the night sky with a bottle of wine.
None of that, however, concerned Seraphim. At that instant, something interesting was flickering in front of her.
[In response to an action caused by the Seraph of the Damned, you have been given the Twin Love-Hate Potion.]
[Make the best use of it.]
’Oh my, oh my.’
Her lips pulled into a devilish smile.
