Chapter 1437: Eye in The Sky
Chapter 1437: Eye in The Sky
Ali and Tiara traveled in the opposite direction of the Waking Glades. They passed several towns of seekers and spirits co-existing and fighting against the abyss together. Before his departure, Arthur told them a single sentence to guide them.
"We'll meet in the next city."
The two of them didn't understand what made Arthur save that abyssal seeker, but they didn't doubt him. They sought the next city, Garden. Although Nexus was the central city of the Infra-Layer, other cities served under Lord Halstren.
"How long until we get to Garden?"
"A few days' worth of travel in that direction. Just follow the hordes and you'll get there," answered a seeker at one of the towns. "And if you are weary of travel, we have excellent heavenly pleasure served here. I can take you there."
"No, thank you," Ali said with a frown. Tiara was confused as she followed after him, and asked him what that was. "Heavenly Pleasure is a technique that seekers developed. It allows them to enter a spiritual coma, living in their deepest pleasures."
"…that sounds creepy."
"It is," Ali said with a nod. "It makes me sad that I made the mistake of trying it. I used very poor sigils to elicit the reaction, which made it more like hallucinations than an actual reality."
"…you tried it?"
"Of course I did. I try anything."

"And how did it feel?"
"It felt good at the moment, but it left me weak and hollow for weeks afterwards. There was also this craving that I couldn't quite solve using meditation. It is indeed a poison to the mind."
"So, spiritual drugs," Tiara said with a sigh. "Humans have ways of destroying themselves."
"It's their favorite endeavor," Ali agreed. "I was ridding myself of the aftermath when I encountered you and Arthur. We might've never met if I didn't make that mistake, so I'm not regretful."
"Indulging in one's desires doesn't always bring good results," Tiara warned. "My uncle is a prime example. He became a true monster because he indulged every desire he had."
"Desire can be what drives us forward, and be what brings us down. If we own it, we rise. If it owns us, we sink."
The two of them left the town shortly afterwards. Their trip to Garden was far from peaceful. Hordes of abyssal spirits, followed by groups of abyssal seekers, blocked their path and sought to destroy them.
Ali and Tiara benefited from the Spirit's Legacy just as much as Arthur did. The oaths allowed them to be more corporeal, helping them more in a fight. Arthur taught them how to interact with the world around it and bend it to their will.
A small tree rose from the ground, floating under the effects of Tiara's touch. The abyssal spirits rushed at them, but Ali bought them time using his three-leaves technique. He nurtured three spiritual leaves that could do more damage than swords. His technique focused on controlling the leaves, shredding whoever dared to approach.
Tiara was less experienced in her control, but she made up for it with her sheer capability of letting anything float. Arthur taught her how to connect her soul to the objects around her and control them, giving her an eerily similar ability to Cassius, the Sin of Pride.
"Watch out!" Tiara cried out as she swung the giant tree. Ali jumped in time to avoid it, letting the massive trunk crush the seekers underneath. Some of them managed to dodge, but the three leaves rained down before they could attack again.
The abyssal spirits were soon destroyed, releasing their sigils for Tiara and Ali to acquire them. As for the seekers, they fled or simply returned to their abyss.
"Oh, I've never seen such a sigil before," Tiara muttered as she crouched in front of a sigil shaped like an eye. It shimmered with mysticism and tempted her to use it."
"It's better if we save it in our Soulbind," Ali suggested. "You can understand its function once you do."
"Oh, right," Tiara pulled on her necklace and absorbed the sigil into it. Then, it assimilated into her soul and she became aware of its function. "Wait—this could be useful!"
"What does it do?"
"Clairvoyance!"
"We can find Arthur using it," Ali said with surprise. "Quick. Use it!"
"I'm already doing that, Ali," Tiara said while rolling her eyes. "Let me see how it works."
Tiara then brought out the sigil from her Soulbind and infused it with spiritual energy. The sigil glowed and began expanding. It rose to the sky, floating far above the nearby mountains and clouds. Tiara's own spiritual energy seemed to let it float further.
Then, a similar sigil appeared on Tiara's forehead.
Her eyes glowed white as images rushed into her mind.
The eyeball in the sky turned in all directions, searching the entire land. Then, it stopped in a direction that was slightly to the west of Garden. It rushed out in that direction as it began to dissolve.
A few minutes later, Ali could no longer see the eye in the sky.
As for Tiara, she collapsed to the ground exhausted. Her spiritual energy was spent, and her spiritual body was unstable. Ali tried to help her, but didn't dare supply her with his own spiritual energy. The backlash of shared memories was not something any of them wanted to experience.
"What did you see?" Ali asked.
"I found him," Tiara said with a weak voice. "He's hiding in a mountain that's just to the west of Garden. But we need to warn him."
"Warn him of what?"
"An army is marching toward him," Tiara said as she tried to push herself upward. "An army of abyssal seekers."
"He should be able to handle them," Ali said while helping her stand. "What makes you so worked up?"
"…because that army is led by the Sin of Envy, Invidia."
Ali was silent.
"We need to reach him before they do."
"I don't have any spiritual energy left," Tiara said with frustration. "It would take me another hour to regenerate it."
"I have just enough to get us there," Ali said as he offered her his hand. "I might not have the same ability as you, but this old man knows a few tricks."
"…you are thirty-two."
