Chapter 1438: The Monster Who Slays Gods

Chapter 1438: The Monster Who Slays Gods

The two seekers floated faster than the wind, thanks to Ali pushing himself to the limits. His three leaves danced in harmony, generating enough wind to carry them. As soon as Tiara began to recover, she helped the sphere of wind by feeding it spiritual energy.

"How far are we?"

"We're close now," Tiara answered. "The mountain should be just behind that mountain range."

Ali nodded and burned through the last of his spiritual energy. He glided over forests and deserts, reaching the mountain range. His form began flickering and losing integrity, forcing him to begin his descent.

The two of them landed on a cliff right at the end of the mountain range. As they tried to recover their energy, they saw a great flash of light coming from the sky. They raised their heads.

A sky split in two — a golden sun clashed against clouds of darkness. Half was reinvigorating the realm itself, while the other was devouring it whole. The pair spotted their enemies beneath the clouds of darkness.

An army of numerous creatures advanced, one step at a time. Tiara could feel the mountain range shaking by their march. The army moved as one, but looked anything but similar — tall golems, minions of hell, and misshaped creatures of stolen realities.

In their lead was a man on a dark horse that rode on black mist. He wore ashen armor, befitting his pale complexion and long white hair. His ears were long, carrying a pair of blood-gems as earrings. The man looked ahead, his gaze seemingly set to swallow the world.

"Invidia," Tiara muttered, her form shaking and strength abandoning her. "That's my uncle — the man who kidnapped me for the crown of Janea."

"With an army like that, how did they go unnoticed? How did they even locate Arthur before we did?" Ali asked, but felt foolish. The golden mountain was a beacon in the darkness. "We need to warn him."

"I think that… he already knows," Tiara said while clenching her heart. "This feeling… is not one I only possess. Anyone who comes near Invidia feels this primal urge to protect themselves from the thief."

"Does he mean to take them on?"

"I don't know what he wants to do, but we're not ready," Tiara said with a shake of her head. "We need to recover for now instead of seeking to warn him. We will be his escape plan in case things go wrong."

"We're not going to make it anyway," Ali said with a frown. "But are we going to stand idle as our friend fights such a battle?"

"He is indeed our friend," Tiara responded. "But he is also the strongest man this world has ever seen."

Inside the cave, Arthur sat in silence while staring at Lusica recovering. His soul has been restructured, but it was still fragile and unable to hold form. Lusica needed to create an oath, but that was not a process Arthur could rush.

Despite the looming threat outside.

"I never expected him to be this impatient," Arthur said with a smile as he rose from the ground. "But this is a chance for me to learn what happened to Diana."

Arthur was releasing too much spiritual energy for him to handle. His form was changing, like a humanoid star that's about to turn into a supernova. However, he couldn't retract it or the nameless will take hold of Lusica again.

He was, after all, his sole surviving vessel.

A contact with the nameless didn't merely change a person, it eroded their souls. In the end, they would be nothing but a prison of flesh filled with black tar, obeying the masked desire of Devaheim.

"Let me take care of this," Arthur said while glancing at Lusica. "It's my turn to protect you."

Arthur stepped out of the cave. The sky was dark, filled with wrathful clouds. In the far distance in the valley, Arthur saw his enemies — an army of thieves. He looked at the man leading them, and the man looked back.

Invidia raised a hand, bringing the army to a halt. A small period of silence ensued, as neither side said anything. The elf then kicked the side of his horse, and it morphed into a giant bird that flapped its wings and soared.

The bird stopped once Invidia was higher than Arthur.

Arthur smiled.

Invidia glared at him, "We meet at last, creator."

"I honestly never knew you existed until a few days ago," Arthur said with mock guilt. "Don't act like we are some sort of rivals."

"You need to be this brazen to fight the gods," Invidia said with a chuckle. "But that won't be the case after today. Your powers, and your wrath, will be mine."

"Please take them. I'll pay you," Arthur said with a laugh. "But I don't think you can handle them. These are, after all, the most reality-bending abilities in the world."

Invidia's eyes shone with envy as he looked at Arthur. It raised its hands again, and the countless monsters rushed forward. They were no longer synchronized, each flailing its arms and legs to get to Arthur.

"Let's see how you protect that pathetic human of yours," Invidia said with a smile. "After all, I plucked his soul and planted it into the abyss just for you."

Arthur didn't respond to his provocations and stared at the army climbing the mountain. He then glanced at Invidia. If he was to attack the Sin of Envy directly, the army would attack Lusica.

"You leave me with two options, to either waste my energy or forsake my friend," Arthur said with a smile. "That's a good plan, but it would only work on normal opponents. I am anything but normal, little elf."

Arthur raised his hands. Spiritual energy bubbled from within his chest, like an erupting sun leaking out. It exploded in every direction. Invidia had a change of expression as he felt the overbearing spiritual energy flooding his senses.

It was thick, overbearing, and never-ending.

"Is this what it means… to be the monster who slays gods?" Invidia asked with a chuckle, but an expression of ambition and desire flashed on his face. "This too, will be mine."
