Chapter 3035. Building Up
Chapter 3035: 3035. Building Up
"You came to see me?" Su was curious but glad. She had also missed Midnight but she was more so surprised that Midnight would come this far just to see her.
"I have been enjoying a little bit of fighting and seeing what was out here. None of this out here is protected behind my shield. It appears and it disappears. No one may know it either."
The way that Su said this was both happy and sad. Midnight caught it instantly. But Midnight didn’t take any stock in that. She knew very well that Su was meeting herself in a way. She was looking for ways to grow and adapt so that she may advance her or path forward.
"I missed you." Midnight finally shifted back in to her dragonkin form and captured Su in a hug. But Midnight didn’t let her go. It appeared clear to Su that Midnight missed her more than ever because they were all doing different things right now.
"It’s good that you came to look for me. I wanted to have someone who would watch my back other than just Walker. He is good but, a sister is better, right?" Su said this knowing that Midnight was not here just because she missed her.
It was easy for Walker to see it too but he had not said this clearly. He had let Midnight do as she wished but on the condition that she came looking for Su by herself.
Midnight was lonely. She was feeling like everyone was so busy that they might get to see each other less and less. Su was her best friend and closest sister. Yes, she cared for Alice, Remey, Alma, and Elise as well, but Su had walked with her and formed a bond with her. It meant more to her in her heart.
"We can leave here sooner than later. I wanted to walk a bit more and let the nature created here train my body. I already understand what I am looking for. I just need a little more traveling to be at peace with myself. I have understood a lot about why I want to protect people and everything I can lately."
Since Su hadn’t said much more, Midnight didn’t ask. She trusted that Su was understanding her reasoning better and better. But it also was part of what made Su a hero. She didn’t get that title just because of her actions. She got it because she truly was one and would do her best to be one since that meant protecting others.
"I guess I have always wanted to protect people and that’s how I ended up with my system and class and all that. When I gained it all I protected someone naturally without thinking. It’s not something chosen but part of me. So my shields will always take that and use it to become what I need them to be. But making it an active part of me is different. I need intent."
Looking carefully at Su, Midnight broke her more silent habits and looked even clearer. "I need to grow too. I can’t be just a leader of hatchlings. I am strong too." Midnight hadn’t said this to Walker or the other dragons.
Yes she was a true dragon champion who could fight the royal dragons and beat them down in many cases. But they still all knew she was a young dragon who grew faster because of her bonds and experiences with fighting for the literal world.
They did not fully see her as just a dragon either. She was not raised by one and despite the fact that her mother had perished fighting to protect her egg, it was extremely important that Midnight had lived and been protected by various other races.
It was more applicable to call her the first child of Genesis.
If the system of existence gave her such a title, no one would be able to go against it since it was overall true. Yet, as such she was more of the beginning than someone who had been handed knowledge and wisdom from an elder. She collected what she knew from everyone and kept growing because of it.
She was trusted with hatchlings because of her strength but also because she pushed them toward the new aspects of Genesis. She was leading the path of the next generation of dragons but not necessarily standing in the leadership of the actual dragon race.
It made sense that she might feel some type of way as the rest of the party looked for their own paths and she felt that she was not exactly carving her own. She might have to grow a lot more to have that chance. Not in strength but in years of life.
"Midnight, do you know what you are doing?" Su’s expression made Midnight step back and become much more focused. "You are making so many people try new things. People look for you when you are trying new foods. They look for you when they wonder if their new hatchling will be able to explore safely. But even parents of elves, demons, and a couple vampires looked for you. You know that."
Midnight was listening fully. She knew all of this but she didn’t see why Su was saying it all out loud.
"I am saying it all because I can feel how worried and afraid you are that everyone is becoming unrecognizable to you. You liked how we all fought and moved together all the time. But you are also standing on your own too. But you are the guide for the next generation of every race, you know that, right? You are like the children’s patron."
Midnight blinked a few times. She hadn’t said it this way. She hadn’t thought of it like this. She hadn’t even properly tried to examine it from another perspective.
"You aren’t a parent Midnight and you shouldn’t be until you are older and wiser. We all were older in certain ways and our bodies developed differently than yours because you were born able to live much longer while we grew in to it. Meaning that every single parent within Genesis sees you as a chance for their children to have someone that can watch over them even after they have left this life."
That fell hard on Midnight. She had not considered it at all like this.
"You can protect everyone without protecting them though. You make all the guards stronger just by visiting them and encouraging them." The whispered reply from Midnight made it clear to Su that she had made an impact.
Su knew that Midnight saw the ways that Su helped strengthen others who wished to protect too. That the reason she had to grow was because she had to become an example that became a foundation. An immovable protector that left a path for everyone. A shield that could stop the biggest most powerful things while letting everyone else reach the opportunity to grow as well.
"So we both are pretty important now. You just need to build your path while looking from other perspectives. I had to change that too since I kept thinking I wasn’t as good or as important because I didn’t find someone to be a partner in my personal life. Like I could only protect when it came to fighting and teaching. Not protect myself and what I am now. I am accepting that and building. What will you build while we travel a little more?"
Pondering this, Midnight looked at her and she seemed to be saying that she didn’t have an answer. But that was good. Su knew that Midnight came here because she was part of who she was and they were able to grow together or apart. But right now, Midnight had come to her because she missed her and wanted her around even if she was not ready to put words to her needs and goals just yet.
Midnight had goals, just not the same ways that Su did. They were not as clean and cut as Su had made them for herself. But they were there and they were building.
"Our new friend recommended that we travel toward a few smaller new elemental planes too. It was very nice to trade with me and let us rest here. I have also directed it that if it can form a golem body that it is welcome to come and visit me. I gave it some of my mana so it can try to find myself or one of my golems. So even the true sages should be able to sense it too." Walker appeared and had just stored quite the halt of seeds, stems, and bulbs he had traded for.
He also sensed that Su and Midnight were done chatting and this was the right time to see if they wanted to keep exploring.
