Chapter 1349: Chaos Betroth’s Thoughts

As Anthony ate, the Law Of Sound hummed around his room as he blocked out whatever he and his group were discussing from leaving the room. Although he blocked the audio, he didn’t block the visuals. He allowed those spying on him to observe as much as they wanted.

"So, Anthony, aren’t you going to tell us how you got your hands on The Lover Of Death’s treasures?" Lora Vake asked, as she was simply too curious at the moment.

Although it seemed stupid to ask about it at the moment, she knew there was no need to act all secretive when it had already been exposed. Although nobody knew what the treasures were exactly, it didn’t matter right now what they were or what they weren’t.

Anthony placed a vegetable in his mouth with his chopsticks as he spoke. "Honestly, it’s not as grand as whatever you all might be thinking," he said honestly. "Unlike the other domains that involved us fighting at all times, this time, we were asked to answer riddles, and whoever answered the five riddles without failing even one would get the treasures," he stated.

At his words, even Chaos Betroth was left stunned. If she died and left her top treasures for the next generation to find, best believe they would fight, shed blood, and almost die for them. There was no way she would set up a bunch of riddles for them to answer and then go home.

"I see... No wonder the Underground Tomb hasn’t been cleared until now. It seems everyone who at least got that far had at least one of the riddles," Chu Feng spoke, lost in thought.

"What were the riddles?" Tory Hale asked as he ate his rice.

Anthony decided to share the riddles he had been given. None of them got all of them right like he had, but Chaos Betroth had gotten four, only failing the last riddle, while the rest barely got one or two correct. Chu Feng got three, but Anthony felt that this guy was cheating again.

"It seems riddles are easy for you," Tory stated as he continued eating.

Anthony smiled as he replied, "Not that I will brag about it, but yeah, they are." He paused for a moment, then added, "In a way, it’s sort of common sense to me."

"Tsk, humble bragging at its finest," Chu Feng clicked his tongue as he spoke in mock irritation.

Anthony’s eyes turned towards him as he asked, "Is that jealousy I detect in your voice?" A smile appeared on his lips.

"You wish," Chu Feng replied.

The group continued to eat as Chaos Betroth said nothing else, simply watching the juniors as they ate and talked. Although they ate and discussed various matters, she could sense and feel the immense pain and fear they were hiding behind it all.

Pain at the fact that six of their friends and rivals, whom they had known for decades, had died. Fear at the fact that today might be the last time they could be sitting together like this, as they might die within the next twenty-four to fifty hours.

She looked down at the alcohol in her hands. Normally, she would have reported something like this to the Sect and hoped that backup would arrive quickly, but in this case, calling for backup would simply be sending more people to get killed.

Although she could report the situation and tell the Null Sect to pack up and escape, just in case anything happened, she knew they wouldn’t do that. Those stubborn Core Elders would instantly rush here to fight despite knowing they stood no chance. Even the Sect Master himself wouldn’t back down. Instead, he would dissolve the Sect and head to the battlefield. After all, a new Null Sect could always be created, no?

She sighed as she shook her head. Even if Anthony won, then what? The Null Sect would still become an enemy to the entire Sathor Grand Region. So, whether Anthony won or lost, at the end of the day, it would be a loss for the Null Sect as a whole.

Chaos Betroth couldn’t help but smile. Personally, she was ready to die tomorrow. After all, every chance to push the Universal Law Of Chaos meant that death was a possibility.

She leaned back into the seat she was sitting in, anticipation for tomorrow building inside her. She wondered if, now that Anthony had killed an Eternal Apex from the Vanishing Reapers, they too would join the battle when it erupted in earnest.

The night deepened as everyone discussed various matters. After a while, they all decided it was time to sleep. As they prepared to lie on the couch and on the ground, Anthony immediately stopped them as he spoke.

"I paid for six rooms. You guys should retire to yours," he stated.

Tory Hale turned towards Anthony as he spoke. "But wouldn’t it be better to stay together in one room? What if they decide to assassinate us in the middle of the night?" he asked.

Anthony simply shook his head as he replied, "No need to worry about that. These people won’t waste their energy on you guys when they know I’m the one with the treasures that are worth their time," he stated flatly.

At Anthony’s words, they all paused for a moment, as though wanting to argue. They turned towards Chaos Betroth, as though they wanted her to interject on their behalf, but Chaos Betroth shook her head. Anthony was not a normal Above disciple whom she could order around, and their lives were literally in his hands at the moment.

It was best that they left him alone.

"Fine," Tory spoke as he rose to his feet. The others rose with him, said their goodbyes, and then walked towards the door.

Anthony knew that these Above disciples were afraid of being killed in their sleep, but he wouldn’t allow that to happen, even if he knew they wouldn’t be targeted. His shadow stretched as Igris, Beru, Dark Knight, Bellion, and Silent Annihilator moved into their shadows. Each of them possessed enough strength to keep their respective targets alive in case anything happened.

"I look forward to the battle, Anthony," Chaos Betroth stated as she turned towards Anthony. She didn’t sense Silent Annihilator within her own shadow.

Anthony simply nodded with a smile and said nothing. He didn’t plan to have Chaos Betroth fight alone. He would deploy his Shadow soldiers to fight alongside her, while Silent Annihilator protected her from the shadows whenever a fatal attack was about to land.

As the door closed, Anthony sighed as he leaned back into his seat. He shook his head with a smile on his face. He felt like calling the Core Elders and the Ancestor to come and join the battle since they were probably bored, but he knew that would be counterproductive in a certain way.

He stood up and stretched his body, then walked towards the window, opened it, and stared into the sky. But he couldn’t see the beautiful moon or the night sky, as they had been blotted out by the gathered masses. Even the night wind and breeze didn’t reach his room, as they had been blocked too.

Anthony gave everybody a smile, then shook his head and closed the window.
