Chapter 1847: Zenith and the Final Will
Chapter 1847: Zenith and the Final Will
Valyr’s interest was piqued after listening to the being’s introduction.
"What is her final will, specifically?" he asked Zenith. "Also, since you mentioned that you’re the main executor, does that mean there’s others out there working on fulfilling Veradine’s final will right now?"
"I’ll answer the second question first." The latter gave the two questions a bit of thought. "To make things short, yes. There are others out there working to make her final will a reality."
"In fact, there’s one in the Shadow Plane that’s making quite good progress."
At those words, the being looked off into the distance as an enigmatic smile faintly appeared on its lips.
Looking back at the young man, Zenith immediately understood what he wanted to ask next. "Just so you know, there are only 10 of us in total."
"Did all of them use to be a part of Veradine just like you?" asked Valyr in response.
"Most of them." The former nodded. "Only a couple of them are not. However, they also used to be her closest confidants and greatest servants before her death, so I guess you could say they’re a part of her as well."
"I see." Though the young man nodded in understanding, he could not help but think to Zenith’s words from earlier.
’There’s one in the Shadow Plane?’ he muttered to himself, getting the feeling that he might have an idea of who it was. ’Does it have something to do with Arcane, perhaps?’
While Valyr continued to think about the question for a bit more, Zenith steered the topic of their conversation back to the young man’s first question.
"If you were in Veradine’s shoes, what do you think her final will would be?"
"Hmm?" Snapping back to reality the moment he heard the question, the young man went silent for a bit as he pondered over it. "Is it not to make Shadow Energy more accessible?"
"That’s definitely one of her final wishes, but not her final will." Zenith shook its head. "Her final will is something else entirely."
"...Is it related to the experience I just went through?" asked Valyr after some time, getting the feeling that it was probably the right question to ask.
However, the being shook its head once more. "A bit, but you’d have to experience most, if not her entire life to get the answer you’re looking for."
"Speaking of which, if you came here not as a mortal, but as a Myth or an Ancient-level being instead, then perhaps you’d be able to obtain the answer through that method," it added. "Quite a shame that you came early, but I guess it’s also for the better."
"..." As he wondered whether it was possible to experience Veradine’s life once more in the future, the young man continued to ponder over the question Zenith gave him, approaching it from multiple perspectives.
"I give up." In the end, Valyr thought that there was no point thinking about it. After all, even though he had experienced a part of her life, his knowledge of her was still limited. "What is it?"
"Before I answer that question, let me first ask you a question," said Zenith, responding to the question with a question of its own. "Are you the inheritor of Azradas’ will?"
Hearing Azradas’ name once again, Valyr’s eyebrows furrowed as he looked back at Zenith.
However, unlike before, where he feigned innocence towards the matter, the young man gave Zenith a faint yet perceptible nod.
’Considering that it already knows that I know who Azradas is, it wouldn’t be far-fetched for it to come to the conclusion that I’ve inherited his will as well,’ he thought to himself, bitterly smiling at the realization.
Although Zenith looked unassuming at first glance, with how effortless it grabbed dark energy from the large structure before them, he had no doubt that the being could crush him to bits without even breaking a sweat.
"I knew you’d be his inheritor." Seeing the young man confirm its suspicions, Zenith gave him a smile. "If not, then you wouldn’t have been given the opportunity to go through Veradine’s life."
"Wait..." Hearing those words, Valyr felt his mind shake as the gears in his mind began to turn.
After a moment of silence, he looked back at Zenith with realization. "So you’re telling me that the third requirement is...?"
"To be the inheritor of Azradas’ will." The latter nodded in agreement. "Which is why you being chosen made it feel more surprising. In my head, it would’ve made more sense for a Divine-level being inherit it."
"And yet, for some reason, you were the one that inherited his will," it continued, gazing at the young man with a hint of suspicion. "Odd."
"Then again, it doesn’t really change things that much." It shrugged its shoulders after that. "Even for a mortal like you, fulfilling her final will is pretty easy."
"What’s her final will, then?" Valyr asked, returning the conversation back to its original topic.
"It has something to do with her own will," replied Zenith. "That’s all I can tell you for now."
"Honestly, I would like to tell you everything, but I still need to confirm a few more things with you," it continued, letting out a slight sigh. "I apologize if it sounds like I’m beating around the bush."
"...It does feel that way," Valyr said frankly.
"I can’t really do anything about it," said Zenith in return as it let out yet another sigh. "I’m just the main executor of her final will. I’m not the one who made the will in the first place."
The young man could only nod in understanding.
"...Man." The being scratched the back of its head in slight annoyance. "If Veradine had allowed us to do whatever we want to accomplish her final will, it would have probably been done by now."
"Then again, considering that the 10 of us were a part of Veradine’s lives at certain times... never mind."
After spending a few minutes in silence thinking about various things, Zenith let out a soft exhale as it looked at Valyr with a calm gaze.
"I know you were sent here to the Void Core in order to deepen your comprehension of Shadow Energy," it said, its tone solemn. "Since the experience you went through ate up some of your time here, I would like to give you compensation to make up for it."
At those words, the being dispelled the barrier that separated them from the Void Core, returning them back to where they previously were.
Whoosh!
"First off, I’ll ask the Overseer of the Shadow Plane to give you a few extra rewards once your time in the Void Core is up," Zenith said to him, causing Valyr’s eyes to widen in slight surprise.
"And as for being forced to experience a part of Veradine’s life..."
"How does obtaining the Full Cycle Ether Gathering Technique sound?"
