Chapter 304: Meet Laura

Chapter 304: Meet Laura

Sean and Roland’s deaths were still causing an enormous uproar.

This was completely different from Gray merely being captured by Richard.

The two of them were the young masters of the Thundervale Clan.

They were undoubtedly protected by a powerful clan elder, not only because they were expected to become the next Grand Sovereigns, but also because they were destined to carry on the clan with their exceptional talents.

Yet they had died before they could fully shine.

The elder assigned to protect them had most likely died as well.

This meant that Grace had become far stronger than she had been during her battle against the Ancient Barbarian Tribe.

Meanwhile, Richard remained silent, lost in thought over Grace’s current condition.

"Little Brother..." Olivia suddenly nudged his arm.

"Come with me to the Skylight Clan. You’ve been wandering around for far too long, and it’s time for you to go home like everyone else. Besides, your younger brother is there too," she said.

Only then did Richard remember that he had a younger brother born to Sophia Whitewater.

The boy should be around thirteen, perhaps fourteen years old by now.

"I want to visit the Holy Star Kingdom first," Richard replied.

"Don’t worry, we’ll pass by there on the way," Olivia answered.

"Seriously?" Richard asked, somewhat puzzled.

"You still don’t know where the clan is located, do you? Hehehe."

Laughing, Olivia pulled Richard onto the Skylight Clan’s flying ark.

Richard offered no resistance.

"Carla, I’m leaving first," he said.

Carla pouted as she watched him being dragged away, but she also didn’t want to appear incapable of being apart from him.

The moment Richard stepped onto the ark, Olivia suddenly produced a sofa.

It was enormous, gilded in gold, and stood so high that three steps led up to it.

"Little Brother, have a seat. You are the leader of all of us," Olivia said with a bright smile.

It wasn’t only Richard who felt awkward because of her excessive enthusiasm—the members of the Skylight Clan did as well.

Although Richard was indeed their leader, there was no need to go this far.

They were a clan, a family bound by blood, not a kingdom.

"No need. I’ll stay here," Richard said as he walked to the edge of the ark to enjoy the scenery.

The ark began to move.

Although it appeared to travel slowly, the surrounding landscape changed dramatically every moment.

It was traversing space and time itself.

Olivia seemed deep in thought after Richard refused the sofa she had prepared.

She was probably wondering what she should do to please him instead.

However, Richard remained too focused on the view ahead, giving her no opportunity to come up with an idea.

Soon, the borders of the Holy Star Kingdom entered his sight.

He signaled for Olivia, who was controlling the ark, to slow down.

Richard closed his eyes, but only for an instant before locating the aura he was searching for—Laura’s.

His brows furrowed as he looked toward a massive tree in the middle of a forest.

A young woman with short black hair sat beneath it beside a short old man dressed in ragged robes.

The old man looked up.

Shock immediately filled his face when he saw Richard.

"Boy, you’ve finally shown yourself," the old man said.

He was none other than Master Alex, an old Magus in the Ruler Realm from the kingdom who had once even served as the previous king’s teacher.

"Old man, I didn’t expect you to still be alive," Richard said as he descended from the ark, which remained hovering high in the sky.

The Skylight Clan members had no business there and naturally did not follow him.

"What? Were you hoping I’d already be dead?" Master Alex glared at Richard.

"Of course not. But generally speaking, by the time the younger generation grows up, the older generation has already passed away," Richard replied.

"Hmph, nonsense. I’ve still got a long life ahead of me. You might die before I do," the old man snorted.

The black-haired young woman beside him remained silent, though she couldn’t conceal her astonishment upon seeing Richard.

"Boy, what brings you here? I refuse to believe someone as busy as you came all this way just to see me," Master Alex said again.

"Yeah, I do have business here, but it’s with Laura," Richard answered.

He had no idea why Laura was with Master Alex. Perhaps the old man had accepted her as his disciple.

"Me?" Laura asked in confusion.

From Richard’s perspective, Laura seemed completely different now—far calmer and more composed than before.

Rather than explaining immediately, Richard threw Gray out of the Dragon Hall.

He hadn’t done anything to Gray, but tossing him into the Dragon Hall had apparently disturbed the skeleton’s peace and quiet.

At the moment, Gray was bound with ropes, his strength suppressed to its lowest level.

His mouth was even stuffed with cloth, leaving him unable to do anything except glare furiously at Richard.

"Ahhh, this brat?" Master Alex nearly jumped in surprise while Laura froze in place.

"Hahaha! Boy, you’ve been so arrogant lately. I even heard you wanted to challenge me to a fight. So how did you end up getting captured instead?" Master Alex laughed, making Gray look even more frustrated.

"Richard, what happened?" Laura asked softly.

Richard didn’t answer right away. Instead, he first removed the cloth from Gray’s mouth.

"Brat, are you afraid to fight me fairly?" Gray immediately shouted.

Richard had already expected those exact words.

He simply acted as though he hadn’t heard anything.

When Richard remained silent, Gray seemed unable to think of anything else to say.

Before he could continue, Richard stuffed the cloth back into his mouth.

He merely wanted Laura to witness how Gray behaved the moment he was allowed to speak.

"He’s almost gone insane because the woman he wanted chose me instead," Richard said to Laura. "And it’s all because he cultivated a Codex without knowing its side effects."

Laura frowned upon hearing that.

"I already knew about the Codex. Gray obtained it a long time ago. He just couldn’t cultivate it until later because he hadn’t met its requirements before."

"Oh..." Richard looked at Gray strangely.

"Did you know that it requires him to sleep with numerous women because the Codex gains power by extracting a certain hidden energy from their bodies?" he asked.

Laura immediately shook her head.

Naturally, Gray would never have told her something like that.

"If that were all there was to it, then it wouldn’t be such a bad thing as long as someone could control themselves and avoid draining that hidden energy completely. Unfortunately, the Codex’s true side effect is madness. In the end, a person ceases to be themselves. That power gradually takes over their mind bit by bit until none of their own thoughts remain."

"Hmm, I suspected as much. This brat’s talent was never that extraordinary, so how could he possibly become one of the strongest geniuses? Turns out he relied on such a dirty method," Master Alex remarked while looking at Gray with disdain.

Gray’s expression grew even angrier after hearing his method exposed.
