Chapter 1216: Origin Shield

Chapter 1216: Origin Shield

Aurora’s expression softened slightly.

"Amun is the only High Demi-God in the Prime Universe."

I remained silent as I processed that.

Only nine Demi-Gods existed in the entire Prime Universe. Six were Low Demi-Gods, three were Middle Demi-Gods, and Amun alone had reached the High Demi-God stage.

It was a surprisingly small number for a universe of this size.

But Aurora had not finished.

"The Eternals currently have fifteen Demi-Gods."

My expression hardened.

"Six of them are Middle Demi-Gods," she continued, "and two have reached the High Demi-God stage."

That meant the Eternals possessed not only a numerical advantage, but also a considerable advantage in the upper ranks. Seven of their Demi-Gods were Low Demi-Gods, six were Middle, and two were High.

Yet Aurora’s next words made the situation even worse.

"And there is something else you need to understand. The number of Saints on their side is far greater than ours."

"How much greater?"

"They have roughly five to six times as many Saints as the Prime Universe."

I frowned.

"That many?"

Aurora nodded. "The Prime Universe has spent thousands of years fighting a defensive war. Every Saint we lose is difficult to replace. The Eternals, however, have continued expanding while fighting us. They have conquered other universes, absorbed their resources, taken their territories, and incorporated their surviving forces into their own."

Her voice became colder.

"The fifteen Demi-Gods you know about are only the forces directly involved in this war. The Eternals have the resources of multiple conquered universes behind them."

That explained far more than I had expected.

The war was not simply between two equal civilizations that happened to possess different numbers of powerful cultivators.

We were facing an expanding power that had already consumed other universes and was now turning those conquered resources against us.

"And that is why Amun could not allow the Demi-Gods to fight directly inside the Prime Universe," Aurora said.

Her gaze shifted toward the darkness surrounding us.

"When Amun realized that the Eternals were preparing to invade the Prime Universe, he knew that a direct battle between Demi-Gods would destroy everything before either side could determine a victor. So he and the System created a separate battlefield and sealed it away from the rest of the universe."

"A separate battlefield?"

Aurora nodded.

"It is called the Origin Shield."

The name immediately caught my attention.

"It is not simply a defensive barrier. The Origin Shield is an independent dimensional structure anchored to the Universe Core of the Prime Universe. The Universe Core serves as its foundation and continuously supplies it with the power necessary to maintain the separation."

She paused briefly.

"Its most important function is simple: no Demi-God can cross through it and enter the Prime Universe."

That explained why the war had remained outside.

Aurora continued, "Everything beyond the Origin Shield is still technically part of the Prime Universe, but calling it that would be difficult for anyone who has actually seen it."

Her eyes grew distant.

"That region was once filled with countless stars, worlds, and civilizations. Now there is almost nothing left."

I could already imagine what thousands of years of Demi-God warfare would do to a region of space, but Aurora’s description still exceeded what I expected.

"The battlefield has been destroyed over and over again. Space has been torn apart and reconstructed countless times. Laws have collided, shattered, and been overwritten. Entire galaxies have disappeared. Even the remnants of reality in some regions have been reduced to unstable fragments."

She slowly shook her head.

"There are no planets there anymore. No stars. No civilizations. No ordinary life."

"Only the battlefield remains."

Her words settled heavily between us.

"The Demi-Gods have been fighting there for thousands of years. Whenever one side attempts to break the balance, the other responds. Whenever someone gains an advantage, the others intervene before that advantage can become decisive. The entire region has become a battlefield where Authority constantly clashes against Authority."

I remained silent.

For the first time, I could understand why Amun had chosen to keep the war away from the Prime Universe.

It was not because the battlefield was safer. It was because there was simply nowhere left to destroy there.

Aurora looked back at me.

"And we paid a price for maintaining that battlefield."

I waited.

"When the war began, the Prime Universe had twelve Demi-Gods."

Her voice became quieter.

"Three of them have died."

I felt my expression change.

"We have been fighting the Eternals for thousands of years," Aurora continued, "and despite everything we have done, we have not killed even one of their Demi-Gods."

I stared at her.

Three of ours had fallen.

Not one of theirs.

The imbalance suddenly felt much more real.

"Demi-Gods are extremely difficult to kill," Aurora said. "Once an existence reaches this level, destroying the physical body is almost meaningless. Even destroying the Soul may not be enough. Their Origin and Authority have become deeply connected to their existence, and as long as that foundation remains intact, they can survive what would be certain death for any Saint."

She paused.

"To truly kill a Demi-God, you must destroy the foundation that allows their existence to remain connected to their Origin and Authority. That is incredibly difficult when your opponent possesses an Authority of their own."

I looked toward the darkness again.

"And among their High Demi-Gods..."

Aurora’s expression turned serious.

"There is another problem."

I waited.

"Theras Prime."

The name alone was enough to change my mood.

"He is a High Demi-God," Aurora said, "but do not make the mistake of placing him on the same level as Amun."

My eyes narrowed.

"Theras is stronger?"

"Considerably."

Aurora’s voice carried no uncertainty.

"Amun is the strongest existence on our side, but Theras is even more powerful than him."

I remembered the name written on the contract.

The same name that had darkened my expression the moment I saw it.

Aurora continued, "That is one of the reasons Amun has never been able to simply force the war to an end. Even if he could defeat the other Demi-Gods, Theras alone is powerful enough to prevent him from gaining a decisive advantage."

She looked at me for a long moment.

"That is the reality of the war you are about to enter."

I remained silent.

Only then did I fully understand why Amun had publicly announced that a new Demi-God would join them in six months.

One new Demi-God would not suddenly erase thousands of years of imbalance.

But in a war where every existence at that level mattered, one additional Authority could still change everything.

And if that new Demi-God was me, the Eternals would notice immediately.
