Chapter 1238: Thoughts
Chapter 1238: Thoughts
The meeting ended not long after we settled on my role in the war, but Amun did not immediately leave. Instead, he asked me to follow him, and together we stepped out of the headquarters and arrived on the roof of the enormous black building. From this height, I could see almost the entire capital spread out beneath us.
The capital of Prime Fate was nothing like the cities I had seen before.
The capital stretched across the horizon in a mixture of ancient fantasy and advanced civilization.
Towering black and silver structures rose between enormous plazas, while floating platforms moved silently through the sky, carrying people and cargo between different parts of the city.
Sleek flying ships traveled along invisible routes above the buildings, their engines leaving faint trails of light behind them.
Farther away, I could see enormous dragons flying between the towers, some carrying riders while others simply moved through the sky under their own power. Griffins soared between the higher structures, and magical beasts of all kinds moved through the air alongside mechanical vessels as if the combination of magic and technology had always been natural.
Below us, thousands of people moved through the streets, while countless lights illuminated the capital as darkness slowly spread across the horizon.
For a while, neither of us spoke.
Amun stood beside me with his hands behind his back, calmly looking over the city.
Then he turned toward me.
"So, what is it that you wanted to discuss?"
His tone was casual, but I knew better than to waste the opportunity.
"There is something you should know."
Amun’s expression changed slightly. I looked toward the distant skyline before speaking.
"I believe the Sovereign Eternal Time is a traitor."
The casual expression disappeared from Amun’s face. He didn’t interrupt me, so I continued.
"I learned something before I came here. During my time in the Blue Spiral Galaxy, I met some of its members. I learned what had happened inside their organization."
I told him everything I knew.
The Sovereign Eternal Time had already been in contact with the Eternals. The previous leader of the Order of Time had discovered something was wrong, but she had been away fighting on the front line when everything happened. While she was gone, Eternal Time had acted.
He had killed the high-ranking members of the Order of Time.
One after another.
He had silenced the people who knew the truth before they could expose his betrayal.
Amun listened without saying a word.
The more I explained, the more serious his expression became. When I finally finished, he remained silent for several seconds.
"I already knew he was a traitor."
I turned toward him.
"You knew?"
Amun nodded.
"I have suspected him for a long time."
I stared at him for a moment before another thought occurred to me.
"And Sovereign Abyssal Darkness?"
Amun’s eyes narrowed slightly.
"He is a traitor too."
I was genuinely surprised.
"You knew about him as well?"
"Yes."
I looked at him carefully.
"Then why haven’t you done anything?"
Amun released a long sigh.
"That is the problem."
He turned his gaze back toward the capital.
"Knowing someone is a traitor and being able to deal with them are two completely different things."
He paused before continuing.
"I am not certain who else is involved. Eternal Time and Darkness are the two I know about, but there may be others. I cannot simply start accusing Demi-Gods without proof. The moment I make a move against the wrong person, the entire situation could collapse."
I remained silent as he continued.
"Then there is the war itself. Both of them are still fighting the Eternals."
He glanced toward me.
"Not seriously, of course. I know they are holding back and allowing the Eternals to retreat from certain areas, but from the perspective of everyone else, they are still fighting."
His expression became heavier.
"If I kill them now, that false work disappears immediately. The Eternals will realize that something has gone wrong, and we will lose two Demi-Gods from our side at the same time. The Eternals, meanwhile, will still have all of theirs plus 2 of ours if we are unable to handle them."
"That would make the imbalance even worse."
"Exactly."
Amun folded his arms.
"And there is another problem. I don’t know how deeply the betrayal goes. They may have already passed information to the Eternals about our defensive formations, troop movements, resource locations, and even the capabilities of our Demi-Gods. If I move against them too early, I could force the other traitors into hiding before I know who they are."
He paused for a moment.
"More importantly, if the Eternals realize that we have discovered their agents, they may abandon their current strategy entirely. They could increase the pressure on the main battlefield before we are prepared for it."
I understood.
Amun wasn’t ignoring the problem.
He was trapped by it.
The traitors were enemies, but for the moment they were still serving a useful purpose by maintaining the appearance of a full Prime Universe force while quietly limiting the Eternals’ ability to exploit our territory. Removing them without preparation could actually make the war worse.
Amun looked at me again.
"That is why I need you to be careful."
His voice had lost its usual casual tone.
"Very careful."
I nodded.
"While you are working inside Prime Galaxy, you will be fighting the Eternals entering through the rifts. Do that, but don’t become careless just because you are stronger now. Watch your surroundings, watch the people around you, and most importantly, watch your back."
He looked toward the distant sky.
"You are a new variable. The Eternals will eventually realize how much stronger you are than they expected, and once they do, they will start paying attention to you."
"I understand."
"As for the traitors," Amun continued, "leave them to me for now."
I looked at him.
"You have a plan?"
Amun smiled faintly.
"There will be a time to deal with them."
He turned toward me.
"I have been preparing something for a while. Soon, we will have an opportunity to deal with them without exposing everything we know."
His eyes became cold for the briefest moment.
"And when that opportunity arrives, we will make sure we don’t waste it."
I looked at Amun for a few seconds before turning my gaze back toward the enormous capital below.
I had just become a Demi-God.
I had expected the war to be my greatest problem.
Apparently, the real danger was not always going to come from the enemy standing across the battlefield.
