Chapter 562: Meeting Gao Ziyue (4)
Kyrian replied calmly, his words flowing naturally, without any pretense or hidden intention.
“I simply see you as you truly are. And honestly…” He paused briefly, choosing his words carefully.
“I like that feeling. Being able to see the truth behind appearances, being able to see you as you really are. Is that such a bad thing?”
The words came out naturally, without any hidden intention. He wasn’t trying to impress her or win her over; he was simply being honest.
Even so, Gao Ziyue remained silent for a few seconds, surprised by the frankness of his words. A faint rosy tint appeared at the tips of her ears, visible even beneath the soft glow of the lanterns.
She discreetly looked away, a gesture he had never seen from her before. She seemed almost shy, an expression that contrasted with the confidence she usually projected.
After a few seconds, she smiled again, though her smile was gentler now, more vulnerable.
“I suppose that means my secrets will never be safe around you.” Her voice was light, but there was an underlying truth in her words.
“Not my disguises, not my illusions, not the masks I wear to protect myself.”
Kyrian answered with a sincerity that left no room for doubt.
“I have no intention of revealing anything about your appearance. Or about anything else you choose to share with me.”
She looked at him once more, her eyes meeting his. For some reason, she believed those words completely. There was no hesitation in her gaze, no doubt in her heart. The trust they had built within the dream domain transcended the physical world.
Without realizing it, they had arrived before the main entrance of the crystal auction house, its façade shining beneath the night lights like a slumbering giant. A long line stretched across the staircase, made up of dozens of cultivators and merchants eager to enter. Guards clad in gleaming spiritual armor carefully checked invitations before allowing each guest inside, their sharp eyes evaluating every person who approached.
Kyrian naturally walked toward the end of the line, his intention obvious. Before he could take a second step, however, he felt a gentle tug on his sleeve, a touch so light it almost seemed imaginary. He looked back.
Gao Ziyue was still delicately holding the fabric of his robe, her slender fingers gripping his sleeve with a gentleness that contrasted with the authority of her position.
“We’re not going this way.” Her voice was low, meant only for him to hear.
She released his sleeve almost immediately, as though she had suddenly realized what she had done and found it embarrassing.
“Come with me.”
The two followed a side passage, moving away from the crowd gathered at the main entrance. The path was less illuminated, quieter, flanked by stone walls covered in luminous moss that glowed with a pale green light. There were no lines there, nor the chaotic bustle of the main entrance. Only a massive door made of dark spiritual wood, so dark it seemed to absorb the light around it.
Two extremely powerful cultivators stood guard at the entrance, their presence so imposing that the air itself seemed heavier. Both wore full armor, and the energy radiating from their bodies was astonishing, far beyond the Core Formation Realm.
The moment they saw Gao Ziyue approaching, both men bowed deeply at the waist in a salute that conveyed the utmost respect.
“Young Miss.” One of them spoke in a deep, respectful voice.
Neither of them asked her name. Neither of them requested an invitation. There was no need. Her identity was known, her status unquestionable.
The enormous doors opened immediately, creaking softly on ancient hinges. A brightly lit corridor stretched ahead, lined with silk carpets and decorated with paintings of ancient masters.
Kyrian observed the scene in silence, noticing the contrast between the treatment she received and what he had witnessed at the main entrance. It was impossible to forget who she truly was, the future leader of the Sky Family, the heir to the most powerful force in the entire Sky Caravan.
Even when she tried to be invisible, even when her illusions concealed her from ordinary eyes, those who knew the truth treated her with the deference her position demanded.
Gao Ziyue noticed his gaze, reading the understanding in his eyes. Her smile became slightly awkward, and a trace of frustration appeared in her eyes.
“I really don’t like this.” Her voice was little more than a murmur.
Kyrian tilted his head curiously.
“Like what?”
She looked at the two guards, who were still bowing, her eyes lingering on their submissive postures.
“Being treated like this all the time. As though I were something fragile, something precious, something that must be protected and revered.” She sighed, the sound carrying exhaustion.
“I understand that it’s part of my position, that these are protocols that have existed for generations. But even so… it gets tiring.”
Her voice became even softer, almost a whisper.
“Sometimes… sometimes, I just wish I could be Gao Ziyue. Not the Heir, not the Patriarch’s daughter, not the bearer of the Celestial Physique. Just… me.”
Kyrian answered almost without thinking, the words leaving his lips before he had the chance to reflect on them.
“Well. Then that’s how I’ll keep calling you from now on. Simply Gao Ziyue.” His voice was firm, as though he were making a promise.
“No matter where we are, no matter who’s around us. To me, you’ll always be just Gao Ziyue.”
She slowly raised her eyes, her almond-shaped gaze meeting his violet one. For a moment, time itself seemed to stop. There was no hurry, no awkwardness.
For several seconds, she simply looked at him. No formality, no reverence, no interest in her status or power. Only sincerity, an honesty she rarely found in anyone.
A gentle smile slowly appeared on her lips. Small, subtle. But perhaps it was the most beautiful smile she had given that night, because it came from the heart, without any mask or defense.
“Thank you…” The words were simple, yet they carried a meaning that went far beyond what any speech could express.
Together, the two of them passed through the enormous doors of the auction house, leaving the bustling square behind. Behind them, the noise of the crowd faded away, replaced by an elegant silence.
Ahead, a magnificent hall illuminated by spiritual crystal chandeliers revealed rows of luxurious seats, suspended private booths adorned with silk and gold, and a circular stage where, in just a few moments, treasures capable of stirring the greed of countless experts would be presented. Their first night together in the real world was only just beginning.
