Chapter 564: Meeting Gao Ziyue (6)
A brighter smile blossomed across Gao Ziyue’s face, one that lit up her entire expression.
The interior of the room was far larger than it appeared from the outside, a spatial illusion that could only have been created by advanced formations. The floor was covered in dark spiritual wood, its surface radiating a faint, pleasant warmth, as though the ground itself were alive.
There was no excessive luxury. Every piece of furniture, every object, every detail seemed to have been chosen not to impress, but to provide genuine comfort.
At the center of the room, a massive dark-blue sofa dominated the space, wide enough to comfortably seat half a dozen people. Its fabric was soft to the touch, and its inviting shape promised hours of conversation without discomfort.
In front of it, a low white wooden table held an elegant crystal pitcher, its amber contents gleaming beneath the light of the spiritual lanterns. Beside it, two delicate wine glasses waited, empty and expectant.
Plates filled with carefully sliced spiritual fruits, each piece glowing with a light of its own, rested upon the table. Sweets prepared with spiritual honey, tiny edible works of art, and a variety of delicacies that looked more like sculptures than food.
Everything had been arranged with impeccable precision, as though a master had spent hours perfecting the presentation.
The side walls displayed only a handful of ancient paintings depicting landscapes from the continent’s five regions: snow-covered mountains, forests of spiritual trees, deserts of golden sand, oceans of crystal-clear water, and endless plains blanketed with wildflowers.
None of them were particularly eye-catching, yet all conveyed a sense of peace and eternity.
The true highlight, however, lay directly ahead. The entire front wall consisted of a gigantic panel of crystal-clear glass, so transparent and pure that it seemed not to exist at all.
Kyrian instinctively stepped closer, his violet eyes widening slightly at what lay beyond it. The entire auction hall could be seen in all its glory: the enormous circular stage with its polished marble floor reflecting the lights like a mirror, the crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling like artificial constellations, the thousands of guests seated in rows of crimson velvet seats, the suspended private boxes, each decorated in the colors of different families and sects.
Everything seemed incredibly close, as though they were hovering only a few meters above the stage, invisible to the crowd below. It was a privileged view, the finest in the entire hall.
“A one-way vision formation,” Gao Ziyue explained, her voice close beside him.
“We can see everything with perfect clarity, as though we were sitting in the front row. But no one can see inside this room. To everyone else, this wall is nothing more than an opaque, polished surface.”
Kyrian lightly touched the glass with his fingertips. It was cool to the touch, solid, perfectly transparent. There were no ripples, no imperfections, no indication whatsoever that it was anything other than ordinary glass. Yet he could feel the subtle energy pulsing through it, the formation working silently to maintain the illusion.
“Impressive,” he murmured sincerely.
She smiled faintly, pleased by his reaction. Then she walked over to the sofa, her movements graceful and natural.
The moment she sat down, she let out a soft sigh of relief, as though she had been holding her breath throughout the entire day.
“Finally…”
She leaned fully back against the sofa, allowing her body to relax for the first time in hours. Then she raised both arms above her head and stretched slowly, a motion that seemed to release the tension from every muscle.
All the tension accumulated throughout the day—the meetings, the protocols, the masks—seemed to vanish in that single movement.
It was rare to see her act that way. Normally, Gao Ziyue was the very image of composure, elegance, and self-control. Every gesture was measured, every word carefully weighed, and every expression restrained.
But at that moment, she seemed like nothing more than a tired young woman, relieved to finally lower her guard. Not the heir to one of the continent’s most powerful forces, not the bearer of a legendary Celestial Physique, not the Patriarch’s daughter. Just a girl who wanted to rest.
“Come,” she said, lightly patting the sofa beside her.
“Have a seat.”
Kyrian approached without giving it much thought, his feet carrying him toward her almost automatically. It was at that exact moment that something changed.
Gao Ziyue slowly closed her eyes. She took a deep breath, a slow inhale that seemed to come from the depths of her soul. Then, she removed the illusion.
The spiritual mist concealing her true appearance slowly dissolved into the air, like smoke carried away by the wind, like morning fog fading beneath the first rays of sunlight. The layers of energy surrounding her unraveled one by one, each revealing more of the reality hidden beneath.
The world itself seemed to grow quieter. Even the room’s lights appeared to adjust, as though the surroundings were adapting to welcome her true form.
Her black hair appeared first. Long and silky, cascading past her waist like a waterfall, every strand shimmering with a life of its own. Among them, delicate silver streaks gleamed beneath the light of the spiritual lanterns, resembling threads of moonlight woven into the night, as though the moon itself had spun its rays into her hair.
Her skin was fair, but not merely pale. It seemed to radiate a soft, natural glow, as though the light came from within her, as though her body had been crafted from porcelain illuminated by an inner flame.
Her face possessed a harmony almost impossible to find in any human being. Every feature was delicate, every curve seemed to have been carefully sculpted by the heavens, as though the gods themselves had spent hours perfecting every detail.
Her eyes… her eyes were the most breathtaking of all. Deep, calm, mysterious. They did not seem like human eyes, but rather windows into a star-filled night sky. And unbelievably beautiful.
At that moment, Kyrian simply stopped walking.
His body froze in the middle of a step, one hand still extended toward the sofa. His heart skipped once, a single beat stronger and deeper than the rest, echoing through his entire being. His violet eyes remained completely fixed on her, unable to look away. There was no thought in his mind, no rational analysis, no attempt to process what he was seeing.
There was only pure perception, the sight of a beauty that transcended all explanation.
For several seconds, he simply stared.
Gao Ziyue noticed his reaction immediately. She saw the exact moment he stopped. She saw the astonishment written across his face. She saw the way his eyes widened ever so slightly.
A faint smile appeared on her lips, but inwardly, her heart was beating faster than she cared to admit.
It was the first time in decades that she had completely removed that disguise in front of another person. Not even immensely powerful cultivators, not even the elders of legendary sects, had ever seen her true appearance. She had maintained the illusion for so long that she sometimes forgot what her own face looked like.
She felt warmth slowly rise to her cheeks, a blush she could not control. Even so, she did not avert her gaze. She met his eyes with a courage that surprised even herself.
“What is it?” she asked softly, her voice a little quieter than usual.
“Are you surprised?”
She paused briefly, her eyes meeting his with a sincerity she rarely revealed.
“Since it’s only you… I think I can be myself for a while.” Her voice became almost a whisper, intimate and vulnerable.
“I don’t need to wear masks around you. I don’t want to.”
Kyrian remained motionless for a few more moments, processing not only what he had seen but the meaning behind her gesture. She had revealed herself completely to him. Not only her appearance, but also her vulnerability, her trust.
Then he slowly let out the breath he seemed to have been holding for a long time. The surprise gradually faded, replaced by a serene calm. His expression returned to its usual state, calm, composed, controlled. Yet a faint glimmer still lingered in his eyes, a spark of admiration he made no attempt to conceal.
“I’m sorry,” he said honestly.
“I just got distracted for a moment. I didn’t mean to freeze like that.”
