Chapter 1052: Chapter 1269: Fake

The vehicle drove all the way out of Tokai City and plunged straight into the forest outside. After following the woodland paths for nearly another hour, they still had not stopped.

"How much farther until we arrive?"

Sitting in the back seat, Julian looked out the window. By now, they had already left the forest and entered a rocky region filled with stones of all sizes as far as the eye could see.

"We're almost there. Don't tell me the great Champion Walker is afraid?"

The man sitting in the passenger seat turned back to glance at Julian, his tone carrying obvious mockery.

This was the kind of person who truly qualified as a terrorist—someone who simply did not understand fear.

He clearly knew Julian could kill him as easily as crushing an ant. Yet not only did he show no respect, he even mocked him openly.

He definitely wasn't acting this way because he had some hidden card. Rather, he genuinely didn't fear death—he was a true desperado.

People like him were actually quite common in this country.

After all, the region had been consumed by war for over a hundred years, with countless people dying every day from war and conflicts of every kind.

So death had become a common occurrence here.

And there were very few elderly people here because most of them simply didn't live long enough to grow old.

Though despite the extremely high death rate and more than a century of warfare, the population of the entire region still continued to increase year after year.

The reason was simple: the sole purpose of survival for women across the region was to bear children.

And due to cultural differences, women here took pride in the number of children they gave birth to.

Most families had at least four to five children, while some even had more than ten.

So with such an enormous birth rate, the region could continue fighting endlessly. Otherwise, if people truly died faster than they were born, there would have been nobody left to wage war long ago.

Hearing that they were almost there, Julian stopped talking and simply leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes.

Ten minutes later, the vehicle finally came to a stop.

"We've arrived."

Julian opened his eyes and saw that the two men in front had already gotten out of the car.

Looking around, he found himself still within a rocky region, except the color of the stones had changed from yellow to deep crimson.

The surroundings were also extremely barren.

After stepping out of the car, Julian saw the Master of Organization Y.

"This doesn't look like the place where Yveltal is slumbering," Julian said.

"Of course it isn't. Before I see the item capable of awakening Xerneas, I won't tell you where Yveltal is."

Clearly, the Master was extremely wary of Julian.

And that caution was perfectly normal. If they directly brought Julian to the location and he later went back on his word, what could they do?

"Fine."

Julian nodded and took out an antler made from a World Tree branch from his backpack. This was the fake item he had prepared specifically to fool them.

The Master immediately reached out to grab it, but Julian pulled it back.

"The location," Julian said calmly.

"I need to verify whether this thing is genuine first," the Master replied in a grave tone.

'They actually have a way to test its authenticity?'

The problem was that the item was fake to begin with. If they really detected that, then both sides would immediately tear off all pretenses.

Of course, Julian wasn't afraid of that.

But the premise was that he had to obtain Yveltal's location first. Otherwise, this entire trip—and all his prior preparations—would have been for nothing.

The brief hesitation that flashed through Julian was immediately noticed by the other party.

"Champion Walker… don't tell me the item to awaken Xerneas is fake?"

Her voice carried a note of accusation, and her expression also turned cold.

"And what if the location you give me is fake?" Julian replied icily as well.

Julian was trying to fool her, but he also had to guard against being fooled himself.

Both sides were wary of each other.

Since remaining in a stalemate solved nothing, Julian proposed another idea.

"How about this—you first tell me Yveltal's location, and I'll send a Pokémon to check it out. In the meantime, I'll hand over the item to awaken Xerneas for you to examine."

"What do you say?"

The other party pondered for a moment, then nodded.

"Alright."

She then gave Julian an address.

High up in the sky, hidden from sight, Deoxys immediately sped off toward that location.

"Here."

At the same time, Julian tossed the fake awakening item over.

One of the men beside her opened a suitcase he had been carrying—inside was some kind of device.

He began scanning and examining the awakening item with it.

"How long until we get the result?" the Master asked.

"Three minutes," the man replied.

"Can that thing really tell if it's real or fake?"

Julian gestured toward the device with his chin.

"Naturally," the Master nodded while staring intently at Julian, as though trying to read something from his face. "You're not getting nervous, are you?"

"What if your device turns out to be faulty? The item is real, but your machine says it's fake—what then?"

Julian was highly skeptical that some machine could actually determine whether an item capable of awakening a First-class Legendary was genuine.

"The device cannot be wrong."

Before the master could answer, the man working beside her spoke up with absolute certainty.

Julian looked at the master, as if wanting to know why they were so sure.

"Our organization once obtained a broken fragment of Xerneas's antler—it was snapped off by Yveltal."

"If your awakening item is genuine, then the energy fluctuations it emits should match the energy fluctuations from that antler fragment."

'Damn.'

Julian was startled. He hadn't expected Organization Y to possess an actual fragment of Xerneas's antler.

If that was true, then there was a very high chance they would discover this item was a fake.

"Are you lying to me? Xerneas's antlers weren't broken," Julian suddenly said.

He recalled seeing the sleeping Xerneas inside the Top-tier secret realm before, and its antlers had been completely intact.

"Champion Walker, antlers can regrow."

As the master said this, the look she gave Julian carried a hint of contempt—probably thinking Julian was a little slow for not figuring out something so obvious.

Three minutes passed quickly.

"What's the result?" the Master asked.

The man beside her, however, didn't answer right away. Instead, he frowned deeply, and only after a long pause did he speak.

"This item indeed contains extremely dense life energy. That part is identical to Xerneas. But the energy fluctuations on it are completely different from the fluctuations emitted by the broken antler fragment..."

"It's a fake."

By the end, his tone had shifted from initial suspicion to complete certainty.

"The life energy itself is indeed very high, but treasures like this do exist. However, since the energy fluctuations don't match, then the probability of it being fake is practically one hundred percent."

The Master took the antler-shaped item and examined it carefully.

As she sensed the life aura coming from it, a faint black gleam flickered through her eyes, and instantly, her gaze toward Julian turned cold.

"This was made from a branch of the World Tree. Julian… quite an impressive trick."

Not only had the fake been exposed, even the true material used to make it had been identified.
