Chapter 1102: Chapter 1319: Magearna’s Growth

Ever since Julian had awakened Magearna with the help of its Soul Heart, its previous memories had been gone.

In many ways, it had been a blank slate.

Magearna was also incredibly fortunate because its Trainer was Julian.

Treating Magearna like a blank sheet of paper, Julian never forced it to do anything. Since it had no interest in battling, Julian simply let it be.

Later, it became Slowking's apprentice and gradually grew into the third steward of the household.

As for today's battle, Magearna had only joined because of a sudden whim—it just wanted to experience what battling felt like.

Yet only moments after the battle began, it had been punched squarely in the face by Registeel.

Seeing Magearna's teary-eyed appearance, Julian immediately glared at Pierce, as if saying: 'Magearna is this adorable and you still hit it? Are you even human?'

Pierce also felt a bit awkward. Although Magearna, as a Mythical Pokémon, had no gender, both its appearance and behavior were very much like those of a girl.

And Julian had always raised it as one.

Watching Magearna get punched directly in the face made even Julian's heart ache. He hurriedly called out, "Magearna, come back."

"Mage!"

Magearna shook its head.

It had chosen to participate in this battle—how could it back down just because it got hurt? If it did, not only would it look down on itself, it would also disgrace its sensei and its trainer.

"Mage!"

After giving itself a little pep talk, Magearna angrily turned toward Registeel, the one that had hit it.

"Mage!"

Magearna: "I'm going to knock you flat!"

Under Julian's influence, it firmly believed in one principle: You don't hit someone in the face

But this guy went straight for its face with the first punch—it absolutely had to hit back.

[Still Water: Possesses minor healing effects; when added to food, it can enhance the food's deliciousness.]

Since Magearna wasn't a battle-oriented Pokémon, Julian had naturally never focused its training on combat, and honestly, the resources invested in it weren't all that plentiful either.

However, he had given Magearna a treasure-grade item.

Treasure-grade items were far rarer than treasures that could be consumed directly.

Of course, this particular treasure had almost no use in battle.

Its greatest function was producing Still Water every day, which Magearna and Slowking used in their cooking.

The water itself tasted quite good, with a faint sweetness to it.

"Mage!"

Magearna stomped hard with its foot, leaving a small crater in the ground as its body shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.

Halfway through, its body transformed into a sphere and began rolling rapidly across the battlefield.

The target of its Rollout was, of course, Registeel.

The move Rollout grew more powerful the longer it continued—though the duration depended greatly on the Pokémon's strength and its proficiency with the move.

Registeel was a pure Steel-type Pokémon. And most Steel-types, due to their immense weight, weren't particularly fast.

Registeel was no exception.

Watching the rapidly approaching Magearna, Registeel had no intention of dodging.

Lock-On!

Zap Cannon!

The two moves were executed in one smooth sequence.

The Zap Cannon, carrying an immensely powerful electrical shockwave, slammed into Magearna's rolling spherical body.

The two attacks collided head-on, and after a few seconds, Zap Cannon overpowered Rollout and blasted Magearna away.

The metal that made up Magearna's body was extremely durable—though Zap Cannon's power was immense, it didn't deal much damage to Magearna.

Hurled into the air, Magearna shifted back from sphere to its humanoid form, preparing to hurl an Aura Sphere at Registeel.

But a surge of electricity coursed through its body, interrupting the move entirely.

Once hit by Zap Cannon, paralysis sets in.

Of course, even when paralyzed, a Pokémon still had a fifty-fifty chance of successfully executing a move.

But Magearna's trainer was Julian—'The Unlucky One'. If the move could actually be used successfully, that would be a miracle.

With its move failing, Magearna landed and immediately looked toward Julian.

Julian promptly turned his head away and started whistling, avoiding eye contact.

Only to end up meeting the mocking gaze of Metagross.

"What's that look supposed to mean?" Julian demanded, his face darkening.

Metagross glanced at him once, then simply teleported away.

This only made Julian's expression darken further. What's this—not only was Metagross mocking him, it wouldn't even bother talking to him anymore?

"Mage!"

Magearna suddenly called out to Salamence.

Salamence hesitated for a moment before breathing a stream of flames toward Magearna.

Under the scorching heat, Magearna's body rapidly heated up, and the electromagnetic force surrounding it gradually disappeared.

"Magearna, that's brilliant!"

Seeing this, Julian immediately gave it a thumbs-up.

He hadn't expected Magearna to know physics—it actually understood that heat could demagnetize metal, while magnetism generated electricity.

The paralysis caused by Zap Cannon was largely due to the powerful magnetic force lingering on Magearna's body.

Now that it had been heated, that magnetic force was gone.

Of course, Salamence's Flamethrower definitely dealt some damage to Magearna.

But if they hadn't done this, the paralysis effect would have persisted on Magearna, making its moves fail to execute smoothly, and even dodging would have been hindered.

Better short-term pain than long-term suffering.

Since it had already decided to fight, Magearna wasn't about to give up so easily.

Pierce's expression grew noticeably more serious—the change in Magearna was just too obvious.

From the start, when Registeel punched it in the face and it wore a tearful, pitiful expression, to now, being struck by both Zap Cannon and Flamethrower without its expression changing much at all.

Clearly, it was already beginning to adapt to the pain that came with battles. Adapting in such a short time—Pierce could only say that it truly was a Pokémon not to be underestimated.

Even if it was just a support Pokémon, the battle talent it displayed was astonishing.

Julian, on the other hand, wasn't thinking nearly as much as Pierce.

Right now, he was wondering—when Slowking, who was out teaching classes, came back and found out that its little apprentice had battled someone...

And had even been beaten up... would Slowking end up giving him a scolding?

After all, Slowking had put a tremendous amount of effort into raising Magearna, and Magearna had lived up to those expectations.

As far as cooking skills were concerned, it had already reached seventy to eighty percent of Slowking's level.

Sigh~

Thinking of this, Julian couldn't help letting out a long sigh. He was beginning to regret asking Magearna whether it wanted to battle in the first place.
