Chapter 973: Lowell Family

Chapter 973: Lowell Family

Many of the Cavendish family members were already at the entrance of the indoor training ground. Among them was Julian’s grandmother, Evelyn. With such a commotion stirred up by Julian, it was no surprise that the Cavendish family had come to see what was happening.

However, the door was closed, and they dared not open it without permission.

It wasn’t until the aura inside slowly faded that the Cavendish family estimated Julian was about to emerge.

Their mood was slightly excited, as they guessed that the earlier commotion was likely due to one of Julian’s Pokémon breaking through to the Champion-level.

The Walker family was the Cavendish family’s biggest backer. Though it might sound somewhat unambitious to admit, that was simply the reality.

In the past, while relying on the Walker family, the Cavendish family might have secretly harbored some envy toward them. But now, as the Walker family grew increasingly powerful, such envy had long vanished—and they dared not feel it anymore.

Since even envy was gone, the Cavendish family naturally hoped that their powerful backer, the Walker family, would grow even stronger. They had already experienced the benefits of relying on such a formidable ally.

Moreover, the Walker family was not the type with overly ambitious intentions, and they treated the families attached to them quite well. For this reason, the Cavendish family was very satisfied with the Walkers.

Inside, Julian sensed his grandmother at the door, along with many members of the Cavendish family.

Using his psychic abilities, he opened the door.

"It’s open, it’s open!"

A certain elder of the Cavendish family exclaimed excitedly. Though it was merely a simple door opening, to him, it seemed as if he was witnessing the gates to a new world.

Evelyn strode in first, followed by the Cavendish family head and several other elders.

Their eyes immediately locked onto the imposing Totem-class Aggron. It was impossible to miss—given its sheer size.

Feeling Aggron’s heavy, mountain-like presence, it felt as though no attack could make it retreat even a single step.

"My dear grandson, this Aggron of yours is even better raised than your grandfather’s," Evelyn remarked with admiration and surprise. Although she had divorced John, she was still well aware of the Walker family’s methods for training Metagross and Aggron.

Her grandson, whether with Metagross or Aggron, had surpassed John in training—and it could even be said that he had even exceeded the Pokémon raised by the Walker family’s ancestors throughout the generations.

Being praised by its trainer’s grandmother, Aggron grinned, its expression tinged with a hint of pride.

The others also gazed at Aggron with expressions of awe, looking at this freshly advanced, still-steaming Champion-level Pokémon.

Then, a continuous stream of praises flowed effortlessly from their mouths.

They complimented Julian, praised Metagross, lauded Aggron, and even commended Lucario.

They even flattered Celebi for its good nourishment and plump figure.

This made Celebi so pleased that it straightened up, its belly wobbling slightly, wearing an expression that seemed to say, "Keep praising, I can handle it."

As for Jirachi, it was already too embarrassed by the compliments and nestled in Julian’s arms, occasionally glancing up at these elderly figures. Though old, they certainly knew how to speak kindly.

'All of them are talents!'

Julian waved his hand, signaling them to stop. If they continued, Celebi would probably start looking down on everyone with its nose in the air.

Just a little praise, and it would become unbearably smug.

"My dear grandson, are you planning to head back?"

At the dinner table in the evening, after finishing dinner, Julian was just thinking about how he should tell his grandmother that he was going back to Lake City.

After all, the Cavendish family was not his own home. Although the Cavendish family would have loved for him to stay permanently, Julian felt out of place.

He was still trying to come up with a reason to leave, but his grandmother had already seen through him.

"Grandma, how did you know?"

Julian felt a bit embarrassed. After all, he hadn’t been here for long and was already thinking of leaving, which made him feel somewhat sorry for his grandmother.

"The concert is over. Why would you stay here any longer?"

Evelyn knew exactly what her grandson was thinking, and she didn’t mince her words.

"Grandma, what are you talking about? I came to Orient City to visit you, not for any concert."

Julian shook his head. He would stick to this point firmly.

Women, regardless of age—if they’re women, you just have to indulge them.

"Grandma knows you’re not used to staying here. You can head back tomorrow morning," Evelyn said.

Julian had originally planned to leave after dinner, but since his grandmother said so, he naturally nodded in agreement. He wasn’t foolish enough to argue.

However—

"Grandma, is there something you want to tell me?"

Julian noticed his grandmother’s hesitant expression and asked curiously.

Evelyn sighed and spoke slowly, "My dear grandson, you know what the Lowell family did, right?"

Julian nodded. After it was revealed that the Lowell family was behind the incident, he hadn’t bothered with it further, knowing his grand-uncle would handle it for him.

So Julian didn’t know what had happened afterward.

"Grandma, is the Lowell family related to you?"

Evelyn nodded and said, "My mother’s younger sister, that is, your great-grandmother’s sister—married the heir of the Lowell family at the time. The current head of the Lowell family is the son of my second aunt."

Among the aristocratic families, relationships were often intertwined and complicated due to intermarriage.

This connection might feel distant to Julian, but for his grandmother, it was quite close. After all, the head of the Lowell family would call her "cousin," so a bond of kinship still existed.

"The incident was carried out by the third son of the family head, and the head of the family was unaware of it. That person kept it hidden from the entire family."

Julian nodded.

He didn’t actually know what had happened afterward, as he had left everything to his grand-uncle to handle.

Ella: 'Didn’t you read the messages I sent you? I explained everything in them!'

Julian: 'Several 60-second voice messages—do you think I’d listen to them?'

"So, Grandma, what do you mean?" Julian asked.

"Grandma wants to ask you to spare the rest of the Lowell family. The third son was already killed by your grandfather. Aside from those directly involved, your grandfather even killed one of the Lowell family’s only two Pseudo-Champion trainers."

"Now the Lowell family is having a hard time."

John didn’t go so far as to wipe them out completely, considering that the incident wasn’t orchestrated by the head of the Lowell family. If it had been, the entire main lineage of the Lowell family would have been eradicated.

He also took into account the Lowell family’s status in the field of Pokémon research, and of course, Evelyn’s connection played a role as well.

So only those directly involved were dealt with.

However, the Lowell family had still offended the Walker family. Among the aristocratic families, secrets were rarely kept, and John’s actions had been highly conspicuous.

Faced with the weakened Lowell family, many other families, like sharks smelling blood, were eager to swoop in and take a share of the spoils.

Even though the Walkers had spared them, other families might not be so lenient toward the now-vulnerable Lowell family.

"Grandma, what are you talking about? You just need to say the word."

"And don’t speak to me like this in the future. I’m your grandson—your own flesh and blood. If you talk to me this way again, I’ll be upset, and I might not come to visit you next time."

Julian said somewhat angrily.

"Alright, alright, my dear grandson. Grandma was wrong."

Evelyn smiled, placing a piece of meat in Julian’s bowl. The worry in her eyes finally vanished completely.
