Chapter 1038: Hell Road (4)

[Xyphor, City of Blades]

"Looks like they are waiting for me," Kent said, hovering 20 miles away from Xyphor City, his next destination.

Even from afar, Kent could feel the pressure from the thousands of swords encircling the city.

"They have activated their formation," he added.

[It seems so. Though I have to say, they are much more efficient than the other ones.]

"That is only normal considering two cities fell in a span of four hours. If I were them, I would have even sent men to delay me." Kent smiled and then prepared himself.

[The formation is strange, so be very careful.]

"I will."

Kent moved again, and this time, his body was enveloped in green flames. In no time, he was meters away from the city.

However, before he could enter the city, a large pointed sword shot from the city at great speed. Kent was forced to fly up, but the sword followed.

Kent spun around and swung hard, meeting the sword in a powerful boom. Kent was pushed back, but before he could move again, a second sword arrived.

Then a third appeared, each pointed and aimed at him.

"Damn, I need this formation."

Kent muttered, already planning to kidnap the City Lord and interrogate him for the formation first before killing him.

"Flaming Rings!"

Three thick flaming rings exploded out of Kent’s body, creating a barrier against the swords. Though not an absolute defense, it is good enough to stop the swords for a few seconds at least.

Perhaps because his movement was very explosive, Kent entered the city the next second under immense pressure from the thousands of swords closing in on him.

"Annihilation Strike," Kent said as his sword swung with deadly force, sending a crescent-shaped arc of green flames.

BOOM!

Kent was moved back several steps when his flame sword arc collided with hundreds of swords.

"So there is another secret hidden within the formation, huh?" Kent smirked, feeling like the more force he used, the more powerful the backlash. Also, if he were to limit himself, then the danger level would be several times higher.

But who is Kent if not somebody who thrives in danger?

He smiled and started unleashing powerful attacks, the kind that started to explode back at him.

Seeing him moving closer to them, the Bladeborn demons attacked, and the next thing that happened was a bloodbath between Kent and the steel-bodied demons.

"They are thick-skinned, aren’t they?" Kent sent his sword scraping across the body of a Bladeborn demon.

[There are thousands of demons in hell... so meeting one made of half-human skin and half-metal is only normal.]

A sword came for Kent’s heart; however, he dodged by jumping back. Then, with a powerful stab, his sword met another sword that came from the formation.

Kent jumped back again, then he kicked, his foot landing on another sword, forcing it out of the formation. It moved like a bolt of lightning, impaling a Bladeborn to a wall.

Kent moved, his body a blur as he zipped through thousands of other swords, his mind searching for the City Lord.

If only he knew his nightmare had just begun.

"City Lord, are you sure you want to use this?" a Bladeborn demon asked a hulking demon with crimson skin and a body carved with blade scars. On his back were two great cleavers.

They were staring at a dark liquid in a rather small bottle.

"But this can be fatal to you too," the Bladeborn demon said, reluctant to let his City Lord use the mind-corroding poison.

It is a rather lethal poison... the kind that, if it gets into one’s system, even poison immunity wouldn’t be enough to stop it.

It was more of a mind-attacking poison than an actual poison. If used, all he had to do was cut Kent with his sword, and he would die for sure.

"There is no other way, Kyat. You saw what he did with the other two cities. And you can see him now handling the formation as if it were nothing. I can only use this method; otherwise, I am afraid even I cannot stop him."

Kyat thought for a moment; however, even within that moment spent thinking, Kent reaped 120 blood essences by using the formation to his advantage.

By knocking the swords out of the formation, he could direct them to the thousands of Bladeborn demons around.

Though slow, Kent had found a way to last a few more hours and hopefully defeat this formation too.

"Okay. But just when he is cut, retreat and let me treat you. Just being exposed to the poison is already fatal."

City Lord Karvex nodded. "On the bright side, even if I fall, he will be poisoned without even knowing it. Hopefully, the next City Lord can finish him off."

City Lord Karvex smiled and pulled out his two cleavers, allowing Kyat to administer the poison to them. After a few minutes, the weapons were ready, and he made his way toward the battlefield.

He gazed at Kent, who was fighting against the Bladeborn demons and the formation, and decided to plan for a sneak attack.

He moved closer to the battlefield and remained hidden, waiting for the right time to strike.

"These damn swords," Kent muttered, deflecting a sword with a kick and then, with a powerful strike from his sword, a Bladeborn warrior died.

Kent jumped forward, evading another sword. His left hand grabbed a Bladeborn and slammed him to the ground, smashing his steel head open.

However, before he could move to the next target, a cleaver stabbed him from behind, causing his body to freeze in an instant.

"Damn..."

Kent muttered as his body began to grow numb. He felt cold, and the light in his eyes started to dim.

"DIE!"

A second cleaver was swung with great force. However, despite feeling his body grow numb, Kent raised his sword and blocked the second attack that was aimed at his neck.

However, he didn’t have a chance to move his body before the second cleaver stabbed through him again. Then he felt his body lifted off the ground.

Naturally, the City Lord, who had both swords in Kent’s body, lifted him high to show everyone he had done it. Cheers erupted everywhere. Kent hung weak and drained. Eventually, he died.

This made the cheering sound even louder.

However, when a minute passed and the Hell Pillar was still lit, everyone realized something was not right.

Naturally, they all knew what wasn’t right...

And when a certain purple-haired brat dressed in red armor spoke from atop a tall building, they all felt a chill run down their bodies.

"I look cute even as a dead body."

Kent smiled and waved his hand, causing 10,000 swords to point at City Lord Karvex, whose legs gave out as he fell on his butt.

Kent’s dead body fell on his lap and dissolved into sparks of light, showing it was merely a clone body.

"Too bad there is no surrender. I would have spared your life to enjoy watching you slowly lose your mind for attempting to use such a powerful poison on me."

Kent grinned, and with another flick, the City Lord’s body was impaled by hundreds of swords.

"Too bad I saw through your scheme long before I entered the city."

The Hell Pillar dimmed, and that announced the twelfth city had failed to stop the Hell Road challenger. Kent didn’t waste time there.

After killing the City Lord, he left and headed to the next city...
