Chapter 1156: Jest’s Wager
Chapter 1156: Jest’s Wager
Every disciple, regardless of where they are and what they are doing, had to drop everything and focus on the unannounced Sword Bridge challenge.
"Who is that kid?" a core disciple asked, sheathing his sword since he was in the middle of practice when the Sword Bridge projections appeared.
"He is an outsider."
"How did you know?"
"Look at his clothes. Those aren’t something a disciple of this sect would have." The disciple who said these words was clad in a grey robe, a privilege reserved for core disciples.
Jest’s brown leather robe is in no way the official wear of the sect. Not even the outer region disciples will wear something like that.
"Then why would the sect allow an outsider to challenge the Sword Bridge?" This question left many disciples and even sect elders puzzled.
There was no way an outsider was allowed to challenge the Sword Bridge, said to hold so many secrets. All core disciples lust to have a few minutes’ chance to challenge it, but the requirements to get on the slot are rather hard.
It also takes time to activate it.
But a mere outsider is allowed access.
One can already see their hatred for Jest building up.
However, while everyone had their own opinions, Jest appeared in a valley and began walking. There was a mountain on both sides. Trees lined the mountain peaks, giving the whole environment a calming look.
Jest suddenly came to a halt when he sensed someone walking from a cave. The person stopped 100 meters from him.
"So another one has come, huh?"
A burly man holding a large broadsword spoke, causing the air around him to twist and turn.
’A Sword King with level 9 Heavenly Sword Energy, huh?’ Jest smiled, sensing the powerful intent and aura of the sword emanating from the man.
"I suppose you are the one I have to defeat to pass this level."
"But of course. However, the last person who came was a Sword Emperor, and he spent five hours before getting past me.
Also, over the millions of years I’ve spent guarding the entrance to the Heavenly Sword Bridge, only one person managed to kill me.
You... unfortunately lack all the qualities to defeat me. So do yourself a favour and surrender before things become embarrassing for you."
Everyone could hear the conversation happening between Jest and the burly man. This left them all in a daze.
Nobody had ever had this much conversation with the sword guards, so this was a first.
Jest smiled and gave the burly man a calm appraisal. "You wanna make a wager?"
The burly man, for some reason, was inclined to listen to what Jest had to say, so he thought for a moment and nodded.
"Speak."
"I wager that I will be able to defeat you in under five minutes and in less than fifty moves using close combat." The burly man raised his brow, hearing what Jest said.
On the outside, everyone gasped.
"This kid is arrogant." Everyone nodded in agreement, hearing what Jest had just said. The angry ones even started cursing the arrogant bastard who thought he was better than everyone.
Moments like this, if Jest were around, he would say something along the lines of, ’But I am indeed better than you.’
Unfortunately, he is inside the Sword Bridge...
"You sound confident, kid."
"Just because my name is Jest doesn’t mean I am unserious." Jest smiled and winked at the burly man. "So what do you say, wanna hear the price for winning or failing?"
"Go ahead."
"Well, if I manage to defeat you, which I believe I can easily do, you will have to have a serious duel with me where you will utilise your sword realm to its full potential.
If then you manage to kill me, that is it, but if I win, you will keep fighting with me till I am satisfied."
"You have yourself a deal." The burly man was the type who loved to fight, so this offer was right up his alley. "However, if you lose, you cannot challenge the Sword Bridge for one million years."
"Deal."
Many watching this shook their heads.
"What an idiot. He had a chance, and instead of making good use of it, he wasted it." A core disciple grit his teeth and clenched his fist. "I will personally kill him for wasting this precious opportunity."
Many disciples had already put Jest at the top of their kill list.
To them, Jest, who is a mere Sword King, shouldn’t even have had the chance to challenge the sword bridge. But since he had the chance and now wasted it on a wager they all believe he will lose, the least they can do is kill him to wipe their anger and frustration.
Inside the Sword Bridge realm, Jest stood calm with a smile on his face.
The burly man smiled and said a couple of words that made Jest frown. "Since we are going to fight, perhaps showing your true face will be worthwhile."
’He saw through my disguise, huh?’
Jest smiled, knowing there was no point hiding behind a mask anymore. He retrieved something from his space ring and swallowed it.
In an instant, his hair turned black, and his above-average looks changed, showing his true handsome face.
This reveal caught many off guard. However, they didn’t even stop to think that the brat they’d been looking for, a while back, was the one standing before them.
Jest smiled weakly and spoke. "There you go, mister. Now, how about you give me a name to your handsome face? It would be rude to keep calling you mister."
The man smiled and answered, "You can call me Adrian."
"Well then, Adrian, how about we start?" The sword in Jest’s hand changed, replaced by a new one, sheathed in a brown sword sheath.
Immortal Lord Ritsu and Willa widened their eyes when they saw this.
"It is him," he muttered.
Jest pulled out his sword, and the sheath vanished into thin air. He looked at Adrian, who stared at his sword and smiled.
"You know, there are 1.6 million sword moves in existence. I happen to know all, so I would love to see how you will get past me, Adrian."
Saying that, he just moved, and in under a second, he was before Adrian.
Jest stabbed his sword at Adrian’s chest, but the burly man blocked it with the thick blade of his colossal greatsword.
The impact sent vibration running through Jest’s hand. However, he moved to his left the next second and struck with his sword.
Adrian again blocked; however, just as their swords met, Jest let go of his hilt, allowing the sword to spin and move over the colossal greatsword.
His other hand caught it and unleashed an upper swing that gave Jest little time to raise his sword to meet this quick attack, so he used his left hand to block, only for Jest to repeat the same sleek move.
Adrian found his defense dismantled from just that one move. On the outside, the true swordsmen saw what Jest did, causing all of them to widen their eyes.
The level of timing that went into executing this move was unprecedented. Just a slight miscalculation and everything would be over for Jest.
However, he casually used it twice, and now Adrian had completely lost all sense of how Jest would move next.
This move was something Jest created for when he faced someone more physically fit than him.
"Much easier than expected."
Jest muttered and then sidestepped to his left and unleashed a vertical swing that mid-strike changed into a horizontal swing.
It cut across Adrian’s torso, but because of the metal armor he had on, he wasn’t bleeding. However, that one cut said it all.
Jest glided across the ground using his sword as a pivot, spinning his body like a ninja. A second later, his sword was pressed against Adrian’s neck.
"You lost."
Everyone held their jaws like they had lost their minds.
