Chapter 1314: The Fifth Floor - Haunted Village (5)
The battle quickly turned chaotic, forcing the Undead Legion to join in earlier than anticipated.
Although Nara and her team were not being pressured, as more and more Dark Fiends started coming in, they were being forced to use more of their energy.
Since they would be facing the Dark Princess, whose strength they had no idea of, using more of their energy on her minions isn’t the wise choice to make.
The maximum strength level of this mission is heavenly Ascension. However, there is no telling how monstrous she would be and what kind of fiends she would have under her wings.
So the twelve undead joined Vari, Lani, Indie, and Liora in handling the Dark Fiends while Nara, Saden, and Eryndor ventured deeper into the village.
Their mission is kill the Dark Princess.
They could sense her nest hidden deep inside the village, so they slowly made their way there, avoiding as many Dark Fiends as they could.
While killing them was strengthening their dark elements, they knew the longer they delayed, the more dangerous the Dark Princess became.
Allowing her to become a Queen would make her a whole different kind of threat that no one was ready for.
Of course, there is an upside to it. If she were to become a Dark Queen, there is Uncle Drew and the demigods to stop her. However, if the mission were to update itself and prohibit them from interfering even when that happens, it would truly become a disaster.
So the bet is to kill her before things escalate.
"Indie, allow some of the fiends to pass by you so that Velithra and Varyn can take some loads off your shoulder. There are a few Tier 19 Dark Fiends headed your way, so you are going to need to conserve your energy."
Vari advised, diving back into the battle, cutting down one fiend after another.
On the side, Indie allowed some of the Dark Fiends to pass, allowing two of the undead to handle them. After her True Name awakening, she had become much more deadlier.
Velithra, one of the Undead, uses both shadows (darkness) and void essence, so she was basically untouchable in this battle.
She was part of the eight undead Dori and her sisters created when Kent was in seclusion a while back. She is fast and deadly.
Varyn is no different. He is both an assassin and a knight, proficient in the use of souls and the void. His affinity for darkness is very strong, and now that he is growing stronger through slaughter, he seems to be having fun.
Even against the Tier 19 Dark Fiends, none of them were being pressed despite having the same cultivation base.
When it comes down to monstrous talents, Kent has dozens of them in his legion.
Meanwhile, deep into the village, Nara and her teammates came to a sudden stop, almost as if something held them down.
Sixty meters from them stood twelve humanoid Dark Fiends. Their height alone is about 4 meters tall, built to crash planets with a single punch. Their grotesque frame, which seemed to have been constructed by joining many body parts, gave them a unique appearance but also made them look dull and somewhat painful to look at.
There is no right word to describe their appearance.
The need to kill them filled the minds of the three Night Riders. Looking at those long, bone-like swords in their hands told them to prepare for a good battle.
But they didn’t immediately attack. They held themselves back simply because behind these twelve huge Dark Fiends sat a pale-looking lady with a pair of dark colored horns on her forehead. She had dark eyes and a human-like body.
She sat cross-legged on a throne, looking funny at Nara and her friends, who looked like they had seen a ghost.
In a way, they had indeed seen a ghost. The face staring at them—while they would love to say it isn’t her—the Dark Empress they had faced during the Dark Era looked just like her.
Obviously, considering that what Uncle Drew had just revealed were her last words when he killed her, they were inclined to believe that she was indeed her, and as a result, despite knowing she was merely a Dark Princess now, they raised their guard regardless.
They saw the horror of the Dark Empress, so they weren’t about to underestimate her.
When she spoke, they were further convinced.
"Night Riders." Her voice was calm, sweet, and somehow eerie.
"You know who we are?" Eryndor asked, his grip on his staff tightening. He had yet to summon a single Hellfiend since there was no need to.
With Yi Lai summoning her two dragon undead, the battle happening behind them was in perfect shape. However, now hearing the Dark Princess refer to them as Night Riders made him go on high alert.
"I can never forget the stench of my conquerors." The Dark Princess lifted her slender left leg and placed it on the right one, showing a tip of her black tail.
"I have been waiting for you people," she added, looking happy for some reason.
"Do you want to be conquered again? Is that why you are happy?" Saden asked, but what he received in return was a resounding laugh, tinged with mockery.
"Conquer me again?" Her laughter continued, making Saden and her friends frown. However, they knew something significant was afoot, and as such, they waited to get her laughter out of the way.
"First of all, you didn’t conquer me; I let myself be conquered. And second, while you 69 had proven to be the perfect counter for me, considering you are made from the same source as me, I have never truly feared you.
In a way, I merely allowed myself to fall into your hands. I engineered the battle so that you people would come. Thankfully, you did, and what I had envisioned came to pass. Now, I am free, and thanks to you, I can begin my conquest."
Standing on the outside, Uncle Drew, Vexthra, and the others frowned, hearing what the Dark Princess said. They clearly understood the meaning behind her words, and as such, they knew what she was implying.
They also seem to grasp the implication of what she was trying to say.
Of course, without them saying it, the Dark Princess revealed her master plan...
"I know you all are aware that I am the engineer behind the Dark Fiend species. I have the power to create Dark Fiends, and so you can even say I am the creator of the Dark Fiend race.
What you didn’t know, however, is that the Dark Fiend race isn’t a different creation; it is merely a way for me to extend my domain, making me more powerful.
I never intended to create anything. I merely wanted to grow my domain. All that you people call Dark Fiend, I merely see it as a manifestation of my domain, extending my powers and reach.
However, as to whether there is indeed a Dark Fiend, the answer is, of course, yes... There is only one Dark Fiend, and that is me. I am one of my kind, and as such, just like my domain, I can be in multiple places at once.
However, the reason why the Dark Fiend race came into existence was simple: so I could catch the attention of the Night Riders. I needed you to come and free me." She smiled, putting on a mocking expression.
Nara and the rest who heard what she said became puzzled, realisation dawning on them.
