Chapter 1808: The Dark War (10)
Before his final battle with the Abyss King during the Divine Era, Jest gave his seven Eternal Sword Intents, whom he had turned into seven capable swordsmen, a mission.
They were to create and master a single sword technique from the basic stage all the way to the next realm—the realm above the Sword Celestial stage.
A couple of years ago, he found out that one of them had created the Starfall Sword Technique, one of the most powerful sword techniques in the universe.
Today, he was witnessing Han’s technique in person.
The moment he activated it, every single person he had chosen, including himself, was sent into a domain, or perhaps a realm of mortals, where, aside from pure sword or weapon mastery, none of them could use their energy.
So basically, the battle that was about to happen would be fought between mortals, where a stab to the heart would kill.
Han was a mortal, and the twenty-four Celestials he had trapped inside the domain with him were also mortals now. It is humbling to see one return to where it all started, from mortal to immortal, and then to Celestial.
To master this technique, it was why Han had spent many years wandering around, living mostly among mortals.
If Kent had paid attention to Earth’s history, specially history of ancient Japan, he would have found a samurai with an uncanny resemblance to Han.
"What have you done to us?" one of the Celestial-grade Dark Fiends trapped inside the Eternal Karmic Sword Domain asked, pointing his spear, which now seemed much heavier and impractical to wield in a battle fought on a mortal level.
Han smiled, tied his hair into a ponytail, and answered, "This is the Eternal Karmic Sword Domain, buddy. In here, we fight like mortals and bleed like mortals. Unless you manage to kill me, then forget about ever leaving this place."
He scanned the faces of his twenty-four opponents and added, "Well, every hour, we climb one realm. So an hour from now, if by some miracle you all are still alive, then we will transcend to the Medium World, each of us wielding the powers of a Spirit Core Formation cultivator."
He laughed, amused by the expressions on their faces. "That is, if you all manage to last that long against me."
Han had been alive for over ten eras, every single one spent mastering his sword. It would be a miracle if these people lasted half an hour against him, especially now that they were mortals.
"Well then, come at me. I don’t have all day."
And with that, a great battle was underway.
Kent only remained inside the Eternal Karmic Sword Domain for a couple of seconds, but he knew with absolute certainty that Han would kill them all in no time.
Even as a mortal, Han had the aura of a true swordsman, someone who had mastered the sword through constant practice and deadly battles.
Of course, Kent didn’t focus much on it since he had already sensed the Dark Empress’s gaze on him.
Moving across the hall, he appeared inside another room where three people stood blocking his path.
"Isn’t it tiring for you, hiding behind minions when you could come at me like a worthy opponent? I mean, what makes you the almighty Dark Empress when all I’ve seen is you hiding behind your minions?
Can’t you fight to save your own skin?"
"Human, what do you want?" From behind the three Dark Fiends, the Dark Empress asked, causing Kent to grin.
"What do I want? Surely you already know what I’m here for."
"Can’t we come to an agreement? Surely, you would benefit from forming an alliance with me. I can even swear not to attack your universe if that is what you want."
Kent laughed, amused by the Dark Empress’s attempt at disguised diplomacy. She clearly wanted to leave here alive today, and Kent could sense the desperation in her tone.
But he sensed deceit, too.
Kent could tell that even if she were to swear a blood oath today, she could turn her back tomorrow and attack him and the universe. This was simply possible through body sharing.
She could sacrifice a part of her soul, place it into the Dark Queens, and use them to attack the universe while her main body stayed hidden somewhere.
So while swearing she wouldn’t attack the universe, she could indirectly do so with minimal repercussions.
This meant killing her here and now was a must. Unfortunately for her, Kent planned to kill her.
Paragon had done him a solid by allowing him to locate her main body. So no matter what, he would kill her, finally bringing an end to the Dark Era and the Dark Empress.
"Unfortunately, I cannot accept your plea, Dark Empress. You have to die today, so if you could kindly do that by detonating your soul, I would be more than happy."
"Human, do you think killing me today would be your victory? Even if I die today, none of you will be leaving this planet alive, so you’d better think this through before you regret it in the end."
Kent said nothing. Instead, he started circulating his energy, causing the three Dark Fiends blocking his path to do the same.
It appeared Kent had no plans to compromise with their Empress, so the next logical move was to kill him and put an end to whatever plans he had, thinking he alone could defeat three Pseudo-Primordials and get to the Dark Empress.
For a moment, the air hung in a tense vacuum, with no sound whatsoever coming in or out. However, that stalemate was soon broken by a crack and an explosion, bringing the entire building down.
Four people shot into the air, and the next moment, a collision of power so fast and overwhelming erupted from their bodies. Kent met the saber of one of the Dark Fiends, whose body was made of metal.
The moment they clashed, Kent sensed the force and strength behind the Dark Fiend’s blow. However, instead of becoming wary, he smiled and adjusted his own strength.
’Looks like this battle will take more than brute strength.’ Good thing he possessed a vast array of abilities and classes he could employ.
Aside from that, his bloodline was now stronger than ever, and more importantly, he had awakened so many Blood Runes that he couldn’t even fathom how any of it was possible.
He could unleash a large number of them without feeling a thing. However, Kent wasn’t there yet. In fact, he was still far from that point, since he believed he could do much more than he had shown so far.
He knew he had to start slow and work his way up the ladder. This was so that he could at least get used to his own strength and not hurt anyone during the sword competition he planned on entering about a year from now.
So he tapped into the Genesis Swordsman Class, and with just five percent of his Extreme-grade Divine Sword Energy, he began a focused and well-executed close-quarters battle, one where his past as Lord Genesis was being channeled in its entirety.
He parried one attack and dodged a second, only for a third to come from what the attacker believed was his blind spot. However, Kent—or more importantly, Lord Genesis—had no blind spots.
He saw the attack coming and, tapping into the 1.6 million possible close-combat moves he knew, found three ways to defend against it.
And he did, with a mere flick of his finger.
Five seconds later, the attacks unfolded exactly as he had foreseen. But this time, he counterattacked, aiming to take one of them off the board.
