Chapter 850: Me, Myself and I
Chapter 850: Me, Myself and I
If there is one thing Kent understood about himself, it was his way of handling odds stacked against him.
As a computer engineering student back on Earth, thinking outside the box was one of his many notable qualities, among others.
So, facing himself in combat and being completely outclassed wasn’t too surprising.
The perfect clone, although merely 95% of Kent’s true potential if he were to reach the peak of the Core Formation stage, was far superior that his current self.
The main Kent, who was still at the 4th level, having yet to form his core before refining it seven times, was lacking greatly.
He was outclassed in speed, strength, and overall stamina.
But that wasn’t all.
Although Kent could tell the clone possessed the same combat knowledge as he, for some reason, the clone was superior in using it than he was.
They had already exchanged thousands of attacks in close combat, and while Kent gave it his all, he was outperformed at every turn.
In fact, he was like a disciple training with his master.
Now, panting 20 meters away from the perfect clone, Kent could only smile weakly, shaking his head.
"Although this is a good sign that I still have some potential in me yet to unlock, it is just too embarrassing to lose a duel against my own self."
The clone crossed his arms over his chest, looking at Kent with a smug expression.
"It happens to the best of us. But while you are still lacking and can never beat me, I have already seen enough to give you my analysis before we continue."
Though Kent had no idea how or why the clone was behaving this way, he knew the Tower had a hand in it, so he could only play along.
After all, he had already concluded that he wouldn’t be able to defeat his perfect clone, so he could only learn the errors of his ways and improve on them.
"Go ahead."
"First of all, you are fighting based on your current limit. Instead of going beyond what you can currently do, you were instead focused on what you can already do, and that is affecting your combat power.
So, if you want to have a shot at making me bleed, then it will be in your best interest to go above and beyond, for that is the only way for you to know your true potential.
Also, your speed is still lacking.
I estimate that, using your agility, you should be able to move at half the speed the [Flame Wheels] skill does. Instead of relying more on your techniques, focus on improving your speed.
I know we are smart, so we will find a way to do that soon enough. That said, your swordsmanship is impeccable, but without speed and endurance, you will never touch my skin with your sword."
Kent nodded thoughtfully at all the clone had said, and in the end, he could only say one thing: "I am still lacking, even at Level 4."
"Yes, dude, your current strength is worthy of a Level 5 Root Sovereign. You need to push yourself further, and while it will be hard to do that in a medium world, you can always count on the Tower to come through."
"Tch," Kent chuckled and laughed. "At this point, you are just being a shameless Tower."
⟦The master can indeed count on me. During these few minutes of combat, I have managed to gather a lot of data on the master’s strength, and using it, I will create ways for you to push your limits beyond what your body can currently handle. When you are done, you will know the word ’limit’ is but a basic form of limitless.
For now, the master can do all he can, but winning this duel is not an option. You are far from that.⟧
"Very well," Kent nodded, and thus the next phase of the close combat started.
Kent moved in, and this time, instead of using his clone bodies, he focused more on reading his opponent, which was funny considering his opponent was himself.
"Talk about Me, Myself, and I," Kent chuckled, sidestepping as a vertical slash from the clone narrowly missed him.
He responded with a sweeping attack, one that left a hum in the air, but the clone was several steps ahead. He jumped back and kicked with his left leg, catching Kent off guard.
However, like the clone said, while Kent knew that the kick would land on him, he didn’t allow it; instead, he moved back and twisted his body at an unnatural angle, narrowly evading the kick.
But it didn’t end there; the clone came in with a vertical slash, one that Kent had no way of evading. However, yet again, he did.
Using [Distorted Perception], one of the Sword Gaze skills he learned during his Gaze Enlightenment, he managed to overload the clone’s mind, or perhaps his vision, with a mirage of his images.
This gave him a chance to narrowly evade the attack again, leaving a deep cut in the ground.
"Smart," the clone said, but didn’t give Kent a moment of rest. He kept pressing on, and Kent was also doing his best not to give in too early.
Slowly, Kent began to notice some changes.
The way he moves had improved slightly.
Of course, while noticing this would be near impossible, he managed to spot it, and that was because attacks he struggled to block, dodge, or parry were now being made easily.
It was like his gaze had been sharpened, which, in Kent’s own thinking, he knew had something to do with the Sword Dao legacy.
’This is getting fun,’ Kent started to enjoy the combat.
An hour passed in the blink of an eye, but they each were going strong, none backing down anytime soon.
Meanwhile, on the outside, the disciples in line began complaining about Kent’s delay in emerging from the Perfect Chamber.
Of course, aside from hating Kent for cutting in line, they also envied his current standing within the sect, as well as the fact that he had already spent an hour and had yet to come out.
They were angry, and while murmurs weren’t cutting it, they started to make their frustrations much louder.
"This is just too frustrating. I have been standing in line for three days already, but a mere nobody came to cut the line like he owns the place."
"Too frustrating. I don’t even feel like remaining in line anymore. If anyone can just cut in and enter while we who have been standing in the queue for days remain standing, then where is the fairness this sect keeps preaching?"
The more statements people made, the more they started to amplify everything. Soon, the noise filled the place.
"Don’t tell me he has been fighting himself for an hour now and hasn’t even managed to lose."
The disciple who made the statement reexamined his words and seemed to have implied something that Kent’s fans could use against him.
As expected, his words were used against him.
"He is still in there because, unlike you, who can go for only five minutes, he is impressive even when facing a perfect version of himself."
The disciple who made the earlier comment gritted his teeth, feeling insulted. However, before he could respond, a sudden comment caused every head to turn...
"Look, it is the Pill Princess, she is also coming here."
