Chapter 30 - Survivor
Raising the Lowest-Ranked Adventurer, the Heroic Girl – Wasn’t I Just a Substitute Old Man?
Chapter 30 Survivor
Kudo, seemingly uninterested in his own story, quickly shifted the conversation towards me.
But I’m just a Rank 3 adventurer. I have no special powers, just an ordinary Rank 3 adventurer. It’s impossible for someone like me to be more famous than a Special class adventurer.
“That’s absurd. I’m only Rank 3. My magic attributes are average at best. There’s no way I could become famous—”
“When adventurers delve into a dungeon, a vanguard team is sent in first to assess its danger. The dungeon’s level of danger is determined based on the initial reconnaissance, but it’s not always accurate. Occasionally, the danger level can be different from the assessed level. And in most cases—”
“The actual danger is higher than the designated level.”
“Exactly. Normal adventurers rarely experience such discrepancies, but you’re different. Your team has encountered measurement errors three times in the past five years, yet none of your team members have been casualties. Not only that, but you’ve even managed to bring back other teams who were present, without suffering serious injuries.”
“It’s just a coincidence.”
“To call it a coincidence, three incidents seem rather excessive, don’t you think?”
…Certainly, this guy’s words are not wrong.
But it’s not my own power. The fact that I survived was largely due to chance.
“I know I was helped. I know who saved me. But why I won, why I survived, no one knows. It wasn’t a situation where survival was guaranteed… It’s like being deceived by a cunning fox or scammed by a fraudster. The nickname they gave him is ‘Survivor of Survivors.’ With that person, you can always survive… That’s quite a famous story in this circle.”
“…At least call me a magician, not a fraudster.”
Even if they say it’s famous within this circle, it’s probably only known by a small fraction. It should be a story confined to the lower-ranked adventurers in this area.
Well, there was that one time when I encountered a measurement error when I went somewhere else, but even that didn’t create enough fuss to become that famous.
“You’re bringing up quite an embarrassing story. But it’s not just about me, right? It’s true that I might have stood out, but it was all thanks to the entire team’s efforts.”
“Are you sure about that? Of course, the team contributed to the success. However—”
“Shun, what are you doing? There’s no need to engage in this discussion. Come over here.”
Before Kudo could continue, Tenshi returned from her conversation with Miyano and interrupted him.
However, it seemed that Tenshi didn’t want to see me any longer, as she quickly turned around and walked away to a slightly distant place.
That aside, based on their reactions just now and when we first spoke, could it be that they haven’t told him about me?
“Did you not tell that young lady?”
“No, I didn’t. Even though I’m an instructor, I don’t disclose everything. Sometimes, one must realize things on their own. This time, it’s about the importance of gathering information.”
“It sounds tough.”
“Well, it has its challenges. But you can relate, can’t you? There’s a sense of fulfillment, knowing that there are others like yourself—”
“Shun!”
“Oh, my apologies. I should be on my way now.”
“You better hurry before you get scolded.”
Once again, Kudo’s conversation was interrupted. He furrowed his brows apologetically and made his way towards Tenshi.
“Survivor, huh… It’s not that big of a deal, though.”
…But that’s irrelevant for now.
If Kudo hasn’t mentioned me to that young lady, it works in my favor. Judging by his mindset, he probably won’t bring it up later, so there’s no need to worry for the time being.
Well, I can’t completely let my guard down, but at least in the early stages, things should go as we anticipated.
However…
“Dealing with him is going to be a challenge…”
