Chapter 655: Effortless
Chapter 655: Effortless
As the white flames tore open space and approached Lorelis, the crowd fell silent.
None of them had ever seen a white flame, and it was especially weird when the white flame was coming from someone who looked to be from the royal family.
But of course, the one who was most shocked was Johan himself.
He had lived for a very long time now.
That also meant he had seen his fair share of unique Law usages and bloodline modifications.
Or so he thought.
Yet Rael’s Law usage was especially unique.
It was crude and unrefined.
But it was also powerful and chaotic.
The amount of Chaos that was infused in that singular Law of Hellfire was enough to even make Johan take a single step back.
And as he glanced down at Rael, whose Law of Hellfire was completely overpowering someone four Grades higher than him, Johan could only nod in respect.
Not only that though, everything happened in an instant.
The moment Rael’s flames left his body, Lorelis’s fate was already sealed.
Lorelis’s black flames were consumed in an instant, and before long, his entire body was enveloped in white flame.
He tossed and turned, trying to put out those flames with every bit of mana he had.
But once again, he was powerless against a Law that was so enhanced that the only thing he could have done right was run.
Yet he didn’t.
Lorelis stayed and held his ground, or tried to anyway.
But in the end, he had severely underestimated Rael.
Just like that, the white flames overpowered Lorelis, and within just a few more fractions of a second, his whole body turned to dust.
As the white flames and smoke faded, the only thing the massive crowd could see was Rael and the pile of dust on the ground.
It was shocking.
Those who didn’t know what happened cheered, while those who did simply sat with their mouths wide open, unsure of how to react.
Johan was like that too for a few seconds until finally he acknowledged what had just happened.
Taking a good look below and making sure Lorelis truly was dead, Johan eventually let out a sigh and spoke.
"The winner is Rael. Congratulations... you pass onto the next bracket. If you wish to leave, now’s the time. The same goes for everyone else who has passed."
The moment Johan said those words, a few people in the crowd sprang up, raising their hands.
Coincidentally, those very same people were the Grade 6’s.
"I’d like to forfeit."
"Me too."
"I’m out of here... I don’t want to die."
One by one, the contestants began to forfeit and straight up leave.
To Rael’s genuine surprise, there were even two Grade 7’s who left.
And in the end, after all the ruckus had settled, there were roughly only 20 participants left.
Safe to say, the crowd wasn’t happy that so many people left, and in the end, this was supposed to be a ceremony where demons didn’t care whether they lived or died.
But clearly, even those very same demons wanted a fair fight, and getting killed by an opponent who was half their Grade was just straight up embarrassing.
So just like that, they left, and on the other hand, a decent chunk of the crowd left too.
Obviously, since this was a ceremony hosted by the demon king himself, the slots were quickly filled back up.
Regardless of that though, Rael glanced back up at Johan and received a nod in return.
"You were the last fighter today, Rael," Johan said. "The next part of the ceremony is tomorrow. It’s not going to be a one on one like today. For integrity’s sake, I won’t spoil what it is just yet."
Rael chuckled.
"Sure. I’ll still participate."
With those words, Johan nodded once more and turned to the crowd.
"Thank you all for showing up today. The final round of the first bracket might not have seemed very interesting due to how easy it was for one of our contestants..."
"But I can assure you, nothing will be changing. If you are weak, you are weak. If you are powerful, you are powerful. I do not discriminate, and so the tournament will continue to go on. Good day to you all."
With the snap of his fingers, every single demon suddenly vanished from the arena.
And then with another snap, the arena itself vanished.
In its place was a large dark red grassy field, as well as a few contestants from before, including Lilith, who had appeared right beside Rael.
The contestants gave Rael the side eye, while some stared at him in interest.
But even so, he didn’t stick around for long as he grabbed the hand of the stunned Lilith and proceeded to simply crack the space in front of him before suddenly vanishing.
When the two reappeared, they were back in Velmar’s castle.
It was crowded with Rael’s constructs, but since they were working so enthusiastically, he ignored them and eventually dragged Lilith into the kitchen, sat her down, and began making the two of them some food.
While he was doing that though, Lilith seemed to finally snap out of it.
"Rael...? Since when can you do that?"
"I wonder?"
Rael smiled.
"Maybe I could always do it? Or maybe not. Who knows?"
Lilith sighed.
"Did it happen when you started spazzing out while sitting beside me?"
Before he could reply, she narrowed her eyes slightly.
"You know... I thought you were doing all of that because you just felt so excited sitting beside me. Was I wrong?"
"Wow... you think so little of me." Rael feigned being hurt.
He gave her a slightly sad look and finished making a few sandwiches for the two of them before finally sitting down beside her.
He put the sandwiches in one plate, so even if Lilith was a little grumpy now, she still had to reach over and eat from the plate.
But of course, he had no intention of keeping her in the dark, so while this cozy atmosphere was here, he was going to tell her about what happened.
