Chapter 691: Restoring The Staircase
Chapter 691: Restoring The Staircase
Rael calmed his mind.
Then, he spread his mana all around the area where the staircase was supposed to be.
It took a few minutes to adjust the lineup, but eventually, he got it down to a T.
And now was the tricky part.
Since most Laws were based on his imagination, Rael focused on turning back time as much as he could, all while making sure not to lose focus.
It was a difficult task.
But after taking one deep breath, Rael swiftly began turning back time in the staircase area.
At first, it did not seem like much was happening.
Just then, his mana began to drain rapidly as dust and debris swirled around from seemingly nowhere, lighting up the whole area where the staircase was supposed to be.
It was quite magical.
But it was also very, very draining.
Both mentally and mana-wise.
Though, Rael believed in his fortitude, and by constantly turning back his own time to have infinite mana, he was holding up pretty well.
Within seconds, millions of years passed, and after just a few minutes, Rael began to see pieces of the destroyed staircase reappearing in front of him.
It rebuilt itself slowly, but for some reason, Rael felt like the mental strain was increasing as well.
Though perhaps the thing that was most surprising was when he suddenly saw sparks appearing from seemingly nowhere.
He did not think anything of it at first, but once he turned back time further to where the staircase’s outline could become visible, he saw a giant grenade fall down from the sky.
As it reached his face, it suddenly detonated.
Rael was startled, but he had managed to freeze the grenade’s time in that very same instant.
So now, he was just staring at a bright light and dozens of shrapnel that were just inches away from his face.
But soon enough, hundreds more grenades and bombs began to fall from the sky, all of which Rael abruptly froze and/or moved out of the way.
And finally, as the staircase’s rubble began to mend itself, it was soon repaired.
Rael stared at it for a few moments longer, and then finally, he stopped focusing his mana.
Then, he took a few steps back and stared at the repaired staircase for a few moments.
It looked fine and dandy.
Though, there were a few cracks here and there, but the staircase should hold out long enough for them to climb up to the very top.
After all, by repairing everything he saw, Rael repaired the whole staircase leading upward.
Or so, that was how it looked from down here.
"Welp. Ready to go, Anna?" he asked.
She stared at him for a moment.
"That was impressive."
Rael smiled.
"Thanks. Though, we should get moving now, since those stairs do not look very durable."
After a brief pause, she nodded.
And so, just like that, the two of them once again began climbing the staircase.
Along the way, Rael infused the Law of Destruction into the explosives, practically disintegrating them before they could explode.
Then, he simply continued climbing.
Once he arrived at the level where he saw the red-haired girl, there was now nothing but rubble and only scraps of a civilization that remained.
It was a bit sad, but Rael was sure that they might have just moved upward instead of actually dying out.
Nonetheless, he set his thoughts aside and climbed for what felt like days until finally, he began seeing a bright light above.
[It looks like you’re near the Inner Realm of Yggdrasil. You’ll find me inside,] Gaia said. [Though, be wary as I have a tingling suspicion there are plenty of beings waiting up there for you.]
Rael nodded.
He was sure there was someone waiting somewhere, as it was impossible for the Ancient Primordials to just vanish after chasing him inside.
But as for how they got up there without the staircase...
Rael would ponder over it later.
Finally, he arrived at the top and stood before a completely white door that radiated so much power, Rael felt like his skin was melting just by being near it.
But regardless of that, he and Anna exchanged a glance before finally placing their hands on the door.
In the next instant, both of them found themselves standing in a white realm, with nothing but soft clouds underneath their feet.
Yet as Rael glanced further ahead, he saw leaves and even several dozen branches scattered around.
This really was the core of Yggdrasil.
Though, by how empty this place was, Rael was confused about where Gaia was supposed to be.
But just then, a green arrow appeared in his peripheral vision.
Turning toward it, he saw a whole path laid out for him.
[If you follow that, you’ll be able to find me,] Gaia said. [This place is like a maze of sorts... If you go the wrong way, you might end up in one of the civilizations up here. But if you follow the path I laid out, you’ll arrive where I should be.]
Should be?
Huh.
"Rael..." Anna called out, pointing ahead.
He snapped out of his thoughts and glanced in the direction she was pointing.
And as expected, there were several dozen beings all scattered around, glaring at Rael menacingly.
Among them was the being Rael had fought outside of the wormhole.
Autumn.
She took a few steps forward and crossed her arms in irritation.
"Where’s Chunma?"
Rael tilted his head.
"Who’s that?"
Anna tugged at his sleeve.
"Chunma is the person you killed, Rael."
"..."
She did not even try to say that quietly.
So every single person present heard her words.
And in the end, Rael could only sigh in defeat.
[I apologize... I forgot to teach her about the good type of deception,] Gaia said. [B-But if it makes you feel any better, she is still a good fighter.]
Like that mattered when there were at least 15 Grade 10s standing in front of him.
Anyhow...
"I don’t take it we can resolve this peacefully, now can we?"
