Chapter 955 955: Enlightening Talk? [ 1 ]

Rael stared at the surroundings, which were much different than he had remembered. Sure, a few weeks had passed, but damn... The whole world had flourished beyond Rael's belief.

So now, as he walked through a lively garden leading up to the giant mansion, Rael couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed. Though, at the end of the day, Rael mustered through this uncomfortable feeling and got to the front, knocking on the door.

At first, no one answered, yet Rael did manage to spot a powerful presence watching over him, so he just waved. It didn't take long to get an answer afterward, as before he knew it, Renoir pulled up to the front and opened the door.

His face was contorted in a frown, and his clothes, which were nothing but a slim robe, were a clear indication that he wasn't doing anything that important, aside from his wife, of course.

Still...

"Sup. Long time no see."

"It's been a week," Renoir said, letting out a sigh. "What do you want, Rael? I thought we didn't have a reason to see each other anymore?"

"What do you mean? We have plenty of reasons, much like the memories that tie us together, no? You know what, it doesn't matter. I didn't come here to dine with you or anything. Rather, I want you to answer a few questions, if you don't mind," Rael said.

Renoir stared at him for a few moments, then gave up. He leaned on the doorframe and nodded at Rael, basically telling him to start talking.

So Rael did just that.

"For starters, have you met any of the Concepts?"

"The fuck are you talking about?" Renoir facepalmed. "Don't tell me you got yourself involved with the Concepts?"

Rael shrugged. "Shit happened. I accidentally got the attention of an Ambassador. As it turns out, the person who started this mess and fucked over your world in the past was none other than Isobel, the Ambassador of Reality."

He didn't seem very surprised for some reason, which got Rael a little confused. Did Renoir already know about this?

In truth, Renoir didn't. It was because he didn't care. Had the apocalypse never happened, he would've lived like a shitbag until his death. By that logic, he would've also died a shitbag.

His sister never would've woken up, and obviously, he would never have a loving wife like Eris. It was just a situation where even if he knew the truth, he didn't really care enough to act on it ever.

And Rael seemed to realize that too, so he didn't comment any further. Instead, he just sighed and added:

"Well, because of her, I got the attention of the Concept of Reality. He's a chill dude, or at least, he looks like one. I help him get some information out of the people he captures. They're trying to invade the realm where the Concepts live, so it's a little, you know, sensitive."

Renoir nodded. "I know, I saw that realm before. It's pretty unique. Though, I don't get what they're trying to do. The realm is easy as shit to access, and if someone who knows at least a bit about the Abyss wanted to, they could find it at a moment's notice."

Rael raised a brow. "Wasn't it because of the fish?"

"What fish? Do you think the fish could escape the Abyss? Fuck no. It's impossible. Whatever those people did, they must've had someone on the inside who could enter the Abyss and place someone there. Fish can't just escape that place. I can assure you that much."

He paused for a moment, then added:

"When I first got stuck in there, it took me around two billion years to escape. Do you think I'm dumber than a fish? Don't answer that. I'm not dumber than a fish."

Mhm.

Well, whatever he said. Rael now knew that the problem was much bigger than he had first anticipated. But that also meant that he might be affected a lot more than he wanted. For one, he was just someone who got mixed up with all of this stuff and got a part-time job.

But because he had done so, he was now the prime target of all those people. The odds that they had actually noticed him already were pretty damn high. But on the flip side, he was sure that with Gaia and the others around, they could take care of everything.

After all, Zafira and Lilith weren't damsels in distress either. They could easily handle themselves, especially if beings at Grade 10 attacked. As for those similar to High Gods, Rael would deal with them personally in the future.

Anyhow, this bit of information was good to know, as he was sure that by the time he was done with his little side quest, he might be tossed into the fight right away. Despite that, since Rael had just one more question, he decided to ask it outright.

"Where can I find the Akashic Records?"

And the moment he spoke those words, Renoir immediately felt like slamming the door in his face. The Akashic Records were dangerous, even more so for a being like Rael.

"I don't know if I should tell you. That really depends on what you're planning to do inside there."

A faint smile appeared on Rael's face. "Inside there? Sorry, I'm not really planning on going inside. More like, I'm planning to destroy it."

"Ah..."

Renoir's mouth opened wide as he was completely speechless at Rael's reply.

"You're planning to destroy something so important?"

"Important for whom?" Rael scoffed. "The only thing I see when I look at all these things is just a bunch of burdens and tests and stuff. I don't want any of it."

Obviously, Renoir had no idea what Rael had heard or what he had gone through, but there was one thing Rael seemed to gloss over, whereas Renoir caught on.

It was one simple fact, and that was the origin of the Akashic Records, as well as their purpose in connection to Rael.

"Say..."

"Where do you think your Premium Facade perk originates from?"
