Chapter 991: Fooled by Him Again
Chapter 991: Chapter 991: Fooled by Him Again
"They say daughters are their fathers’ little lovers, and it really is true." Tang Yue said, full of jealousy.
Si Yu held her hand, saying, "You are the most important in my heart." His daughter ranked just slightly behind his wife.
"Sweet talker."
Tang Yue chatted intermittently with Si Yu, and she turned on all the flashlights, shining them down the passageway. If Wu Xin and his team arrived, they’d surely come towards the light.
"Xiao Yue?"
"Sister-in-law, where are you?"
Faintly, Tang Yue seemed to hear Wu Xin and Zhao Xiangqian’s voices. Elated, she stood up and quickly replied, "I’m here."
"Wu Xin, Zhao Xiangqian, we’re here."
Tang Yue shouted, her crisp voice echoing in the passage.
Wu Xin and Zhao Xiangqian each held someone as they followed the sound. Seeing Tang Yue and Si Yu were both fine, they grinned, "I knew Brother Meng would be safe, nothing would happen to him!"
"Si Yu." After her joy, Tang Yue noticed how quiet Si Yu was. She ran over and bent down, realizing that Si Yu had fainted, his forehead terrifyingly hot to the touch.
"Si Yu, don’t scare me." Tang Yue gently shook Si Yu, regretting her negligence. If she had been more attentive, she wouldn’t have missed this.
From the moment she met Si Yu until now, his demeanor had been normal despite the injuries that didn’t seem to affect him. Being held tightly by him, she foolishly thought his embrace was warm.
Whenever they chatted, mostly she spoke while Si Yu listened and occasionally responded, so Tang Yue hadn’t noticed anything amiss.
"Brother Meng," Zhao Xiangqian approached, scrutinizing Si Yu with a flashlight. His wounds were treated; no lethal injuries were present, but he was unconscious. Zhao Xiangqian reassured, "Sister-in-law, don’t worry, we’ll get Brother Meng out now. There’s a medical team in the village; once we’re out, it’ll be safe."
"Oh, there are people tied up here too," Zhao Xiangqian noted the four people bound together. "Sister-in-law, I’ll carry Brother Meng out, you follow me. Wu Xin, these guys..."
"Don’t worry, I can drag them out," Wu Xin assured, waking the captives roughly and then coercing them to move. The tied men attempted retaliation, but Wu Xin’s blade made them bleed without killing them.
Several times, Wu Xin’s fierce demeanor terrified the captives, his eyes seeming murderous!
Zhao Xiangqian began finding an exit with Si Yu on his back, quickly reaching the entrance they came through. The water outside hadn’t completely drained, Zhao Xiangqian said, "Sister-in-law, I’ll take Brother Meng up first."
"I’m right behind you. I can swim." urged Tang Yue, wanting Zhao Xiangqian to hurry. If she could carry Si Yu herself, she wouldn’t have let Zhao Xiangqian do it.
Zhao Xiangqian transitioned from carrying to dragging and plunged into the water with Si Yu, immediately rising to the surface.
The water was murky and indistinguishable; Tang Yue pushed Si Yu upwards by instinct, eager to get him ashore quickly.
"Si Yu!"
Meng Jin, upon getting the news, quickly dispatched more men to drain the water. But given the area’s size, draining wasn’t instant.
Upon seeing Si Yu, Meng Jin was too emotional to speak clearly, muttering that Si Yu would be fine.
Meng Jin disregarded the mud, trudging through to help Zhao Xiangqian pull Si Yu ashore.
"Dad, take Si Yu to see a doctor." Tang Yue’s first concern after emerging from the water was Si Yu’s wellbeing. She wiped the muddy water from her face, unconcerned about cleanliness, breathlessly adding, "There’s a gang of tomb raiders below, we’ve tied them up."
"Alright, Xiao Yue, don’t worry, the doctor is already waiting here." Meng Jin, relieved that his daughter-in-law and son were safe, felt reassured knowing he could inform Mo Xiaolin once back in the village.
Originally, Mo Xiaolin wouldn’t leave but injured her leg while searching, forcing her return to the village for updates.
As they returned, Mo Xiaolin held Meng Jin’s hand, tearfully pleading, "Brother Jin, you must bring Si Yu back safely. He’s our only son; nothing can happen to him. Zaozao and Chenchen are home waiting for their father!"
Zhao Xiangqian carried Si Yu to the temporarily stationed medical team at the village school.
Si Yu’s return was met with jubilant cheers.
Mo Xiaolin learned immediately, her tear-swollen eyes now replaced with a smile.
Only then did Tang Yue realize Si Yu had deceived her. Those "minor injuries" weren’t insignificant—without timely medical attention, his leg might not have been saved.
The doctor’s words triggered Tang Yue’s intense tears.
Recalling the tomb incidents, Si Yu had helped bind people, claiming it was no big deal—it was all a lie.
The doctor arranged by Meng Jin carried essential supplies, given Si Yu’s condition, relocation wasn’t advised, thus an office was converted temporarily into a ward for Si Yu to rest.
"Xiao Yue, it’s alright now." Mo Xiaolin, seeing Si Yu on the bed, finally sighed in relief, advising Tang Yue, "Xiao Yue, change clothes before catching a cold, your hair is filthy. I’ll stay here to watch."
Mo Xiaolin changed into clean clothes, her sprained foot wrapped in a white bandage, walking was difficult but at least she was clean.
"Okay." Tang Yue agreed, feeling uncomfortable, and knowing Si Yu was out of immediate danger.
Tang Yue had forgotten clothes but Wu Xin had packed for her; changing into clean attire, she stood by the bedside, saying, "Mom, you should rest; I’m here, your foot needs a break."
"I’m fine," Mo Xiaolin insisted, "I’ll stay here with you."
Tang Yue couldn’t persuade her, leaving mother-in-law and daughter-in-law to vigil at Si Yu’s bedside.
Mo Xiaolin sat in a chair, eventually dozing off. Meng Jin, having dealt with the tomb raiders, returned to find Mo Xiaolin nearly falling off.
Meng Jin’s heart skipped as he hurriedly supported Mo Xiaolin.
"I... fell asleep." Mo Xiaolin drowsily opened her eyes, seeing Meng Jin, asked, "Are you okay?"
