Chapter 1014 - 1018: A Visit of Gratitude

Wan Ruhua heard Yunyi’s question: "You’ve asked the right person. When your house was being renovated, I came by every day to check it out."

Saying this, she went to the five-drawer cabinet on the side and pointed behind it: "It’s just behind this cabinet."

She looked at Yunyi and asked: "Are you planning to have someone live in this room?"

Yunyi nodded: "Yes, Jingrui hasn’t returned from his mission, and my mother-in-law is worried, so she’s planning to come and stay with me for a few days."

Wan Ruhua looked understanding: "Having someone with you is good."

With Wan Ruhua’s help, the issue with the fire wall was quickly resolved.

Yunyi continued to ask: "Sister-in-law, do you know if the commissary has any metal pipes, elbows, or similar items for sale?"

Wan Ruhua nodded in agreement: "They do, but I can’t guarantee they’re in stock. Since winter started, everyone has stocked up on those."

Yunyi thought it made sense: "I’ll head over and try my luck."

She thought to herself if there weren’t any, she’d call her parents and ask them to buy some and send them on the bus to get here.

Yuan Zining had called some people over and hadn’t left, just playing with a few friends in the room.

He heard his aunt was going to the commissary: "Aunt, tell me what you want to buy, I’ll go. It’s too cold outside, you should stay in."

Yunyi patted his head: "Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. Some physical activity is necessary for your aunt. Remember, your aunt is a doctor, have you forgotten?"

Yuan Zining felt a bit embarrassed, wondering if he was being overly concerned: "Then I’ll go with you."

Luck was on their side; when they got to the commissary, there were still a few metal pipes left. However, the only elbows available were made out of coarse ceramic. The salesperson, though, was helpful: "These coarse ceramic elbows can mix with the metal pipes. Just wrap some tape around it a few times to prevent any smoke from leaking out, or you could patch it up with some mud."

Yunyi accepted the salesperson’s advice, and with a group effort, each person carried one pipe back to the housing compound.

When they got home, they saw Camp Commander Feng at the door carrying something.

Yunyi didn’t know Camp Commander Feng, but Sister-in-law Lü spoke first: "Camp Commander Feng, you’re back from your mission?"

Camp Commander Feng nodded: "Yes."

Wan Ruhua saw her carrying something, but it was wrapped tight, so she couldn’t see what was inside: "What’s that you’re carrying?"

Camp Commander Feng pointed to the Huo Family’s yard: "I came to thank the Deputy Regimental Commander Huo’s wife, but no one was home, so I was about to leave."

Wan Ruhua laughed and turned to point at Yunyi: "Here’s the Deputy Regimental Commander’s wife."

Camp Commander Feng looked over and was internally amazed, thinking Deputy Regimental Commander Huo was really fortunate to have such a beautiful wife, but he showed no sign of it on his face: "Hello, sister-in-law. I’m Zhao Xue’s husband, Feng Shengli. Thank you for your timely aid the other day."

Yunyi waved her hand: "We’re all living in the same compound, it was just a small favor, and besides, we’re all military families; mutual assistance is a given. No need to be so polite, Camp Commander Feng."

As she spoke, she went forward to open the gate.

Camp Commander Feng wouldn’t accept Yunyi’s refusal: "Sister-in-law, that wasn’t just a small favor. If it weren’t for your prompt help, my wife and child might have been in danger. These things are a token of my gratitude, please accept them, or I won’t feel right."

Yunyi still wanted to decline, knowing Zhao Xue needed good care after this incident, but Camp Commander Feng wouldn’t give her the chance: "Sister-in-law, please accept them, that’ll ease my mind."
