Chapter 601: Let’s Go Home. Part-1.
In front of Kifrid’s Grandpa’s House.
Sitting on a reclining chair in Kifrid, he stared in the distance and remained stuck in a daze.
Seeing him behave like that, his grandpa Kehrid who was sitting right beside him on another reclining chair, sighed and spoke in a gentle tone,
"How long will you keep thinking about it, Kifrid?... Didn’t you say before that you are a big boy now and you can take care of yourself?"
"You have to understand that sometimes, things always don’t go your way-"
Hearing his grandpa’s words, Kifrid pouted a bit and shook his head before saying,
"Big Bro promised me that he will come back to see me again in a few months, but he’s still not back!"
"I am angry at him!"
At Kifrid’s words, Kehrid could only sigh and shake his head in helplessness.
It’s been six months since Rio left with the cube of possibilities, and there’s been no sign of him returning since that day.
Kifrid often comes to his grandpa’s house just to ask if Rio has returned or not, and he always gets sad after hearing ’No’ as the answer from his grandpa.
’I originally thought he would just return in a day or two after failing... but he hasn’t returned for so long... it might be possible that... sigh...’
It’s common knowledge that the spirit realm is filled with miasma to the brim, and even for powerful awakeners, that place is akin to a hellhole!
Nobody would willingly want to jump into that kind of horrific place even for a single minute, let alone six months!
When Rio came to Kehrid and left with the cube of possibilities to save his friend, Kehrid expected that Rio would fail for sure.
After all, the cube of possibilities was not an omnipotent artifact; its capabilities were also limited, and it had its limits.
Moreover, Kehrid had no idea that Rio was, in fact, completely immune to miasmic corruption!
He thought that Rio was planning on using some miasma-resistant artifacts and his own sword intent to travel inside the spirit realm.
In this scenario, Rio would have to retreat in just a few days, as he would run out of mana and would be completely mentally exhausted with no choice left but to return back home empty-handed.
In the first place, it was near impossible to find a person who had been lost in a literal ’hell-hole’; Kehrid was almost sure that the friend Rio was talking about was likely already dead.
Rio will return empty-handed in a few days and then go back home.
But to his surprise, Rio didn’t come back for months!
As days passed one by one, Kehrid’s disbelief went from shock to numbness over time.
After six months, Kehrid was quite sure that Rio was likely ’dead’ by now.
’I wonder if that unfortunate kid got entangled with some powerful monster or something...’
’Sigh... a kid with such a bright future... this is why I warned him about that place... sigh...’
Kehrid felt that it was a pity that such a talented kid who had managed to reach rank S at such a young age was now gone from this world.
It was a major loss to not only humanity but also the entire world alliance.
Kehrid has lived a very long life, and he’s seen many talented people die untimely deaths; the toll of seeing such shining stars lose their brightness is very big.
That is also one of the main reasons why Kehrid has retired and has decided to not concern himself with the rest of the world.
This is a method to protect mental peace, a choice made out of desperation and necessity.
But all these complicated things can’t be understood by a young kid like Kifrid.
He was still thinking that Rio was purposely not returning early and was late!
He was still hoping for Rio’s return, as he wanted to meet that cool-looking big bro Rio once more!
Just when Kehrid was about to console Kifrid again, he suddenly sensed a familiar presence approaching from afar at a rapid speed.
"What!?"
Sensing that presence, Kehrid was so shocked that he stood up from his chair, and a look of shock appeared on his face as he looked in a particular direction!
Seeing his grandpa behave weirdly like that, Kifrid was surprised, but before he could ask about what was going on, he noticed a familiar silhouette approaching from afar.
It was none other than Rio!
Rio flew while riding on his sword and landed in front of the house located on top of the hill near the outskirts of the border town.
"Big bro Rio! You are back! Hehehe! I knew you’d come back to meet me!! Hehehe!!!"
Kifrid’s sadness disappeared in a matter of seconds after seeing Rio, and he even forgot that he was angry at Rio for not coming back early!
"Yup, I am back... hoh? You have grown taller than the last time I saw you..."
Rio patted the little kid’s head with a slight smile on his face and then nodded his head at Kehrid as a greeting.
"It’s been a while; forgive me for being late... Even I didn’t expect that it would take so much time to find my friend..."
Although Rio was making a slightly smiling face at the moment, Kehrid was a peak SS-ranker after all; with Rio being so close to him, he could sense the presence of the things that he was hiding.
Right behind Rio, a big coffin was floating in air with Rio’s telekinesis’s help.
Although it was not visible to the naked eye and was very difficult to sense due to the sword intent and stealth, with such close distance, Kehrid could intuitively notice its presence.
’Sigh... In the end... my guess ended up being true. his friend didn’t make it... well, at least he managed to come back alive; that is already good...’
Since Rio didn’t mention anything about that floating coffin, Kehrid tacitly did not bring that topic up so as to not make Rio sad and patted him on the back before saying,
"You surprised me, kiddo; I really took you for dead seeing how long it took you to return!"
"It’s good to see you alive! Honestly speaking, you are the most reckless person I have ever seen in my life!"
"Staying inside a place filled with miasma for six months... just thinking about that makes me feel chills run down my spine!"
