Chapter 703: Burdens of being an Awakener. Part-1.

Port City, Oaklum.

*Step* *Step*

With two flower bouquets in his arms, Rio arrived in front of two familiar tombstones located in a secluded place of this cemetery.

It had been almost a year since Rio came here, and right now he had some free time at hand, so he decided to pay a visit today.

But even he didn’t expect that someone else would be visiting at the exact same time as him.

"You are here too?... To still visit them after almost more than a year, I guess you are not as emotionless as you seem from outside after all..."

Hearing those words, Rio sighed and hesitated for a bit but then decided to speak.

"Does Link know you are here, Riya? Don’t tell me you came here because-"

Before Rio could finish his words, Riya interjected with a solemn voice,

"If you know, then don’t make a fuss..."

"Not like I succeeded anyways... As for Link... he recently learned a new technique... he’s busy training..."

Hearing Riya’s words, Rio couldn’t find words to say anymore and could only shake his head and sigh.

"I know that Zach’s and Riko senpai’s death were unfortunate... but... They would likely hope for you to move on and live your life happily too..."

"You do not have to blame yourself for this..."

While saying those words, Rio walked over to the tombs and placed the flower bouquets near the tombs as his symbol of paying his respects to them both.

"I know why you are here... you wanted to use ’Ressurection’ on them... but you know it better than anyone else that doing so is not a good idea..."

"Even if you succeed somehow... that would still be considered messing with the natural world order and causing misbalance in the laws of the world..."

"It will have severe consequences..."

Hearing Rio’s words, Riya closed her eyes and clenched her small fists in frustration and defeat as she spoke in a depressed voice.

"I know... yet... here I am... I still ended up trying it... and I didn’t succeed... sigh..."

"Their souls have already passed on... they might already be born again somewhere, as there’s a possibility that their souls would have entered the natural samsara..."

"It’s impossible to resurrect them at this point... Liam and Ellie were lucky that they had you to secure their soul..."

Zach’s and Riko’s actions caused a major impact on Riya.

Before these tragedies, Riya used to be just a carefree girl who liked to eat candies and enjoy her life with nothing to worry about at all.

She had the favor of two SS-rankers supporting her; she had the most talented young man of the younger generation as her fiancé, and she was blessed with immense talent for healing.

Only when Zach died did Riya realize that the world was not as colorful as she used to think it was.

"As awakeners... our lives are filled with chaos and uncertainty all the time... sometimes... I wonder if I could have lived a much peaceful life if I was just an ordinary girl with no powers at all..."

"The burden of not being able to save a life... the burden of seeing someone you want to save die in your arms... that burden is heavy... it’s very heavy..."

Hearing those words, Rio sighed.

"I am not a healer so I cannot understand your ideals and your mental state but... you know... when I gained the ability to manipulate souls..."

"Before I helped you wake up Link’s father and Professor Jin... I came here once..."

At Rio’s words, a look of surprise appeared on Riya’s face.

"Y-you mean..."

Rio nodded his head as he stared at Zach’s and Riko’s graves.

"Back then, I was thinking that perhaps there’s still a little bit of possibility to save their souls but it seems that their souls had already passed away..."

"So... you are not the only one who’s been burdened with their death you know..."

"Riko senpai literally died in front of me. I wasn’t even able to save her life... do you think I do not feel regret for that?"

Rio shook his head as he spoke in a solemn tone.

"What I am trying to say is that you don’t have to blame everything on yourself; all of us are equally as guilty and as burdened as you... after all, we are sharing the same burden together..."

Hearing Rio’s words, the depressed look on Riya’s face started to fade away slightly.

"Despite how you seem so oblivious about human emotions from outside... you understand them in quite a lot of detail..."

"I am surprised by how good you are at talking and convincing others... it’s usually my job to treat physical and psychological trauma of people..."

"But look at me now being needing support from others myself... sigh..."

Hearing Riya’s words, Rio smiled slightly as Lia’s face appeared in his mind.

"Everyone needs support of someone or something in their life to keep themselves anchored to their humanity..."

"For me it’s Lia’s existence that keeps me going forward without worrying about losing myself to the corruption of power..."

At Rio’s words, Riya rolled her eyes, and she spoke.

"Look at you boasting about your girlfriend the very moment you got the chance to..."

"Sigh... you are right though... I should have talked it out with Link before rushing over here by myself like an idiot..."

"I have always been an idiot but... nowadays... I think that I would need to work on being smarter too..."

Hearing those words, Rio smiled at Riya and spoke in a calm voice.

"Trust me, you are already much smarter and stronger than you used to be... you are making great progress; you don’t need to doubt yourself..."

"Before you did not even have the option to come here and try to use resurrection but now you are capable enough to try something unethical like this..."

"Although it’s a controversial thing to try to revive the dead... you have to consider that you are now so much better than your past self that you are even capable of having the option to revive the dead..."

"That is already great progress in my opinion..."
