Chapter 725: Pleased to see you again... Part-3.
While chatting and messing around with each other, the group made their way to the top of the hill and found themselves standing in front of an old-looking shrine that seemed to be rarely visited by anyone.
"Actually, my dad and mom met in a similar festival when they came here to watch the fireworks. I got to know about this secret spot from them!"
"In the past few years, I have secretly snuck out of the house to come here and watch the fireworks by myself!"
"Although watching by yourself is fun, having friends to accompany you is even better..."
Miki led the group to the front of the shrine, where everyone prayed for better luck and good health for their loved ones, and then they all went to the nearby stall to draw fortune lots to see who would have the best luck today!
After buying the fortune slips, Lia was the only one who was not worried in the slightest!
She was literally capable of controlling her own strings of destiny, so good luck or bad luck didn’t matter to her at all, as she could just change it on a whim!
Using her ability, she directly interfered with the outcome of the fortune slip, and when she opened it, it showed all the good luck and good fortune anyone could ever hope for!
"Ugh, I feel envious of Lia; it’s unfair how she can change the outcome of the draw so easily..."
Riya shook her head in defeat as she only managed to draw above-average luck.
Even Miki only managed to draw average luck.
As for Link, without a doubt he drew the worst luck slip possible, and when it came to be Rio’s turn,
The stall ran out of slips, and he couldn’t even draw his luck once again, proving that the ’laws’ of this world didn’t seem to apply to him at all.
Link put away the fortune slip as he played off the outcome of his draw.
"Meh, I already knew I would get bad luck; it’s been the same since childhood. I have never drawn any good luck charms ever before since I was young..."
Although Link shrugged the matter off without caring about it much, Rio’s eyes narrowed a bit as he realized the meaning behind the words.
’Well, the person who even makes the heavens jealous and resentful will obviously not have much good luck in life; it’s not too surprising...’
Fade had taken all the luck that was supposed to belong to Link, so in terms of luck, Link was definitely one of the unluckiest people out there.
If not for the fact that Rio had been directly or indirectly affecting the trajectory of everyone’s lives around him through his actions, Link’s fate would have been much different than now.
And Link would have likely suffered a lot just like in the original novel.
*Shiuuuuuu!!* *BOOOM!!!*
Just as the group was busy chatting, the fireworks began as the loud noise of a firecracker blowing up in the sky sounded far and wide.
"It’s starting! Let’s go!"
With an excited look on her face Miki led everyone to a secluded place on the plaza behind the shrine.
There were already quite a lot of people there, but there was still plenty of space for the group to stand and watch the show comfortably.
"For the Bravery of Beastkin! HURRAAY!!!"
Looking at the beautiful firecrackers exploding in the dark sky brightly, Miki and many other beast kin nearby shouted a slogan loudly, causing Link and others to be confused.
Seeing the confusion of the group, Miki explained,
"This is the slogan the ancestors of us beast folk used to shout when heading into battle against demons during the thousand-year demon extinction war..."
"We use it even now on festivals and traditional ceremonial occasions..."
Only after Miki explained did the group realize that this slogan was likely similar to what the human army uses as its main slogan and motto.
{Children of Astra Have Never Known Defeat!}
Although the slogan seemed very exaggerated, it was indeed technically not wrong.
The armies of the human empire might have faced difficult circumstances and might have lost small battles, but the human race has never been defeated in an all-out war!
Even when mana had just descended and humans weren’t yet blessed with awakeners, humanity still preserved with pure determination and technology.
It was the same in the thousand-year war and in the fifty-year orc war.
Humanity was never defeated in any of these all-out wars despite losing many SS-rankers and other powerful awakeners in the process.
*Siuuuuu!!!!* *BOOOM!* *BOOOM!!*
The firecrackers exploded loudly, and this time Link and the others also followed suit and shouted the slogan of the beast folk so as not to stand out among the crowd.
As the beautiful fireworks show reached its climax, Rio hugged Lia as he whispered to her in a quiet voice,
"I am glad we came here; I love you, Lia..."
Lia also smiled back at him as she nodded her head and replied,
"Me too, I love you too..."
With this vacation, even the minor distance that the one-year separation had caused in their relationship was patched, causing Rio and Lia to become even closer to each other than before.
Rio and Lia took many photos of themselves, and seeing them do that, Link and Riya also decided to take a lot of pics.
Finally, the group took a combined photo with fireworks going off in the background.
"Okay, okay, the show is over; let’s go eat and enjoy the festival now. I am starving to death over here, and you guys are obsessed with photos..."
Ignoring Link’s complaining words, Rio and Lia held hands with each other as they both headed back towards the main festival area along with the rest of the group.
Soon enough, the group found their way to a skewer stall and bought themselves dozens of skewers, causing the stall owner to work overtime.
Seeing that it would take the stall owner to complete the order, the Rio looked around and noticed a tea stall.
"Lia, take my share; there’s that tea stall over there. Lemme grab a cup of tea real quick..."
Lia knew that Rio’s love for tea was almost on the same level as his love for her, so she could only shake her head and let him go.
"Be quick though, the skewers are about to be ready..."
Nodding his head at Lia’s words, Rio walked over to the tea stall and sat down on the wooden round stool placed in front of the stall as he ordered.
"A cup of tea for me."
It didn’t take long for the stall owner to pour him some hot tea, and as Rio took a sip, he nodded his head, saying.
"This tea is good!"
Just as Rio said those words, the customer sitting beside him spoke at the same time.
"This tea is sh*t!"
A frown appeared on Rio’s face as he tilted his head to look to his side to see who was so rude.
But the moment Rio glanced at the person sitting beside him, his pupils dilated, and a look of shock appeared on his face as he found the person just too familiar to ignore!
Before Rio could say anything, the person sitting beside him smiled at him, looked straight into Rio’s eyes with his light, greenish eyes, and spoke.
"Pleased to see you again... ’Hell Walker’ Rio Flash."
