Chapter 788: Heading Home. Part-2.

The private spaceship of the Rex family was equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and it didn’t take long for it to fly out of the Beast Archipelago’s airspace.

Although the group could have used a teleportation portal made by Ashtel to return or asked Rio to teleport them with his new ability, they all chose to take the spaceship.

It was not because it was fast or anything else but because taking the spaceship was an excuse to grant their mind a small rest.

They were all departing from a grief-stricken nation and were about to head straight into another disaster-struck zone as a rescue group once again.

Despite being powerful awakeners, they were still human beings, and even they needed a brief moment of respite from all these worldly affairs.

The group was so mentally tired from helping out in the disaster-struck areas during the past few days that they didn’t even bother chatting and went straight back to their own rooms to take a small nap.

But of course, Rio wasn’t the least bit exhausted at all, as he had no such things as emotions of pity and sympathy for the dead.

He only cared about Lia; the suffering of the rest of the world was of no concern to him.

Even the feelings of sympathy and pity he had shown in the past few days were just his excellent acting skills at play.

He had already lost almost all of his humanity, so it wasn’t odd that he had to rely on acting to blend in with the others.

The only thing that made him tired was the acting itself; the rest was of not much concern to him.

*Step* Step

"As I thought, you are here... You are quite fond of watching the stars, it seems."

With wide and steady steps, Ashtel walked over to Rio’s side and sat down on the couch nearby and gazed at the stars visible through the ceiling of the spaceship’s room.

This room was located at the topmost place of the spaceship, and its ceiling was made with magically enchanted glass so that the people inside could see the sky through it and enjoy the view.

As a luxurious private spaceship, every bit of it was designed with aesthetics, comfort, and luxury in mind.

There were even robot cleaners and staff on board that were powered with AI and could do all kinds of other work like cooking, serving drinks, etc.

"I am not gazing at the stars... I am gazing at something else..."

Ashtel looked in the direction that Rio was staring at and shook his head before saying,

"The Sea of Endless Miasma... Can you even see it from here? As far as I know, it’s only visible from the dwarf kingdom, and even that on very few occasions to only a selected few people..."

Rio tilted his head at Ashtel’s words, took the teacup served by the maid robot, and spoke.

"I am extremely sensitive to miasma... despite being millions of light-years away from us, the sea of miasma shines like the sun in my vision, and I can see it very clearly from anywhere..."

"I couldn’t do this before... but ever since I went to the Spirit Realm and improved my control over miasma by many levels, I have become capable of doing this..."

Rio could also kind of guess why only a few people could glance and see the sea of miasma properly.

It was likely the sea of miasma was blocking most of the creatures in the universe from observing it in detail, and only those that had the potential to be corrupted or were already bound to go down the wrong path could see it in full display once or twice.

Miasma liked driving people that were already suffering from moral collapse deeper into the abyss of degeneration and demonization, and it purposely made itself visible to various onlookers at times just to spread chaos.

To Miasma, this was nothing but a way to pass time and wreak more havoc in the world, while for others it was an unstoppable nightmare that they couldn’t get rid of once they got stuck in it.

"As far as I can see, the sea of miasma is indeed bustling with activity for some reason, but I don’t know if we should be concerned about it yet or not, as it’s too far away and I can’t see it in too much detail as of yet..."

The Sea of Miasma had taken a weirdly defensive posture for some reason and was trying its best to block itself from outside prying ever since Rio first tried to probe into its secrets.

’It’s almost as if the sea of miasma is a young woman wearing short clothes who’s trying to cover her body because she has noticed a scumbag like me staring at her often...’

’How weird... Is my stare really that creepy? I really can’t make head or tails of this weird situation at all...’

Rio was sure that his stare was definitely not creepy at all, and he wasn’t a scumbag either; the fault lay in the sea of miasma itself.

"Talking about miasma, what’s the situation back home?"

Hearing Rio’s question, Ashtel took a long sigh and spoke in a solemn voice.

"Pretty much the same as any other nation, with thousands of casualties and almost an entire city wiped off the map with various places corrupted thoroughly..."

"Thankfully, Raji was there and managed to push the demon general present at the time of invasion back; if not for that, the casualties would have been even higher..."

"She’s been urging me to come back as soon as possible for quite some time now; I am sure she’s going to give Riya an earful for ignoring her calls and not coming back early..."

"Sigh... I don’t even know how to show my face in front of the nation and give words of consolation to the families of the victims once I go back..."

"All this happened because I couldn’t defeat the Demon King on time... I am ashamed to call myself the strongest man on the planet anymore..."

Hearing those words, Rio realized that the situation was not optimistic at all.
