Chapter 1351: Asking guidance
Chapter 1351: Asking guidance
The so-called Bridgetown in the Chasm was progressing smoothly. The Rebornian construction workers were starting to build the foundations of the very bridge itself, allowing it to traverse through the deep and dark Chasm.
Meanwhile, Michael went and sequestered himself in his own dojo. Right now, he was trying to figure out how he was going to break through into becoming a 9 star wizard.
And he did find a clue. A very vague clue, but a clue nonetheless. According to Grieve, Arcana magic and Sword Intent were one and the same.
He looked towards a straw dummy in front of him. And using a simple sword, one made out of Mithril, he swung it towards the mannequin and immediately cut through its body like it was butter.
Swinging the sword was easy. But making it dance? That was another thing entirely. He wouldn’t want to delude himself and say that he was at the same level of skill as Caliburn or Eldea. He wasn’t even in the same level as Jaku, even though the Dragonborn hadn’t been training for his skills lately.
He was just average at the sword. Any time he wielded a weapon like the Unity Saber, he would always just use its desctructive properties to bridge the gap between his skill and his opponent’s skill.
There was no need for any fancy moves when a simple swing could cut through any normal material in the world. That’s just what a Unity Saber did.
However, now that he knew that it was probably part of the reason why he hadn’t yet advanced to become a 9-star wizard, he knew that he had to take it somewhat seriously.
He thought back to that moment. That moment when Eldea and Caliburn were teaching Jaku about the sword. For a brief second, they showed their Sword Intent.
Michael closed his eyes and focused on his power. On the visualization of the mind.
He let go of his sword and threw it far away from the floor. Now, there was nothing around him but himself. His only weapon would be his own body.
Then, he thought back to that visualization.
I want to cut this straw dummy with my sword.
He kept repeating those words, making them stick to his mind, letting his own imagination paint a picture of the ideal world that he was trying to achieve.
And with his enhanced visualization, he saw the straw dummy separate into two, from its head down to its legs. In the same instant, he felt his own golden aura extend out of his body and into the dummy in front of him.
Then, it plopped into the ground.
He opened his eyes again, and now, he saw the straw dummy laying on the floor, perfectly bisected where Michael had imagined it would.
This was Sword Intent!
Though, this didn’t mean that he was a monstrous talent in the sword. It only meant that he was in touch with his own Nascent Spirit, allowing his Influence to act as a Sword Intent.
Would this be enough?
He had achieved Sword Intent. However, the magic cores in his body were still not moving with the same intensity as with the Mystic Masters he saw before.
It was not enough. He can’t just use the Sword Intent. He had to actively understand how it worked.
He spent a long time just practicing his Sword Intent. Cutting through hundreds of straw dummies with only his mind as his weapon. Yes, the process did get faster and a lot easier as he got more practice with it, but it still hadn’t been enough of a stimulation for his magic cores.
What is not enough?
Frustrated, Michael took out his original weapon.
A single iron switch. He flicked it open, and suddenly, a beam of Unity flared up, creating a sword made out of the most destructive force in the entire world.
Should I actually learn how to use the Unity Saber?
It was actually the perfect time, too. After all, they had two of the most prominent masters in the sword here in the Nation of Reborn.
Michael would be remiss not to take advantage of that fact.
And so, he flew himself over towards the Heavenly Swordmistress’ estate in the Nation of Reborn. They had accommodated all of her requests, including a zen garden as her backyard. This whole house looked like it was ripped straight out of a japanese soap opera.
"Michael."
Eldea was watering her bonsai trees. And even though he was still so far away from her, she could already see his presence.
"Something bothering you?"
"Are you sure you’re not blind?"
The Heavenly Swordmistress laughed. "Yes. I’m just observant. I take it that you’re here to ask about swordmanship."
Michael took a second, before nodding. "Yes."
"You want to know how I know? Your shoulders are sore. Your forearms are burning. This could only happen with hours upon hours of swinging practice."
As expected of the Heavenly Swordmistress. She was truly an expert when it came to the sword.
"I would like your guidance."
When he told her about his wish to learn more about Sword Intent for his breakthrough to become a 9-star wizard, she raised her eyebrows in curiosity.
"Hmm..."
"You’re not that surprised."
"Well, there are some research papers, some theories, that state that Sword Intent and Arcane Magic have some sort of relation with each other. Though, it’s never been proven.
A lot of ambitious warriors back then had tried to combine the two. A Mystic Master and a Heavenly Knight. They were trying to attain both titles at the same time. But unfortunately for them, they all failed. It can’t be done."
Then, Eldea turned to Michael. She opened her eyes. And for the first time, Michael could see the cloudiness in her irises. And even though he knew she was blind, he felt like she could see right through him.
"But I’ve long learned not to compare you to others. With your kind of talent, maybe it is possible for you to learn Sword Intent..."
