Chapter 1457: Burning
Chapter 1457: Burning
Michael looked beyond reality itself. And there, he saw a golden strand in the midst of all the strands of reality around him.
Connected to him were every single Rebornian citizen he had awakened himself. From the very bottom of the chain with ordinary mortal citizens, to the very top, to the Dragonborns and the Shadow Orcs, and everyone else.
So, he was keenly aware of what had happened to Zion.
The young Dragonborn’s thread had been cut off. It was now fraying, with its ends burning, as if signaling his connection to Michael and the Reborn company fading into obscurity.
Michael couldn’t help but shed a single drop of tear for Zion.
Zion was simply a good kid, albeit being a little bit mischievous. He wasn’t meant to be part of this war. Michael had wanted Zion to be on the sidelines to make sure that he wouldn’t have to face these cultivators who were realms above his own strength.
However, stubbornness was rarely that easy to disregard. Zion had sacrificed himself in order to save another. A mortal boy. And Michael couldn’t help but commend him for that.
"Hahahaha! You must have felt it by now, haven’t you?" Worcester asked. "My generals have destroyed your company."
Michael didn’t respond. But instead, he reached out his hand, making Worcester flinch for a little bit.
But in truth, Michael wasn’t even putting his attention on Worcester. Instead, his mind and presence was all focused on the threads of reality. Towards the fading and burning and signing thread of Zion in the distance.
Death cannot be reversed. Not even the greatest wizard nor Maugnetic could change that fact.
Michael reached out and grabbed at the thread in front of him. He could feel Zion’s life force fading right in his hands. Turning colder and colder and colder.
But he was not dead yet. There was a small part of him that was fighting. A small part that had been there since the very beginning. An indomitable spirit that could not be stopped.
A stubborn spirit, if you will.
Michael unleashed his Nascent Spirit Influence towards this thread, making time stop indefinitely. The burning part of the thread had stopped spreading.
He knew that he couldn’t undo this death. But that didn’t mean it had to be permanent.
What if death was not the end of the journey? What if it was just the beginning?
And so, with this thought in his mind, Michael focused on the thread in his hands and imbued it with that energy.
His talent was adaptation. He could make Zion adapt to his own death. He could make it so that death will not be the end of his life, but simply, a new beginning.
Outside of his own presence, Worcester backed away as he felt an incredible shockwave emanating out of Michael.
Michael was glowing golden. Brightening than anything Worcester had ever seen. And it was causing Michael to become unapproachable. Worcester tried to step closer to him, but found that an invisible force was pushing him away, like a persistent wave that kept crashing towards him.
"What... is this... power?!" he shouted, completely flabbergasted at what was happening.
Worcester knew that Michael was doing something. He knew Michael was trying to alter reality and fate bend to his own will.
He didn’t know what that was, but he knew that it wasn’t good. Worcester decided to unleash every single one of his powers to kill Michael here and now.
After all, Worcester noticed that Michael was using all of his Nascent Power for this technique. Meaning, he was currently vulnerable!
Nascent Armor donned, Worcester stepped forward and fought against the tide of power. Then, he reached out his hand towards Michael’s head, releasing a powerful burst of pure energy.
This black beam of light shot towards Michael, hitting his head completely. No Nascent Armor manifested in Michael’s head. Even those golden nanoparticles were being used to keep Zion’s life thread tethered to reality.
Worcester’s triumph was short-lived. It turned out that the attack hadn’t hit Michael’s head. Instead, it had been blocked by his Drone.
"That.... That strange machine!"
Worcester destroyed the Drone with another attack, before immediately conjuring another beam headed straight to Michael’s chest, where his power was emanating out of.
This would interrupt whatever kind of power he was trying to use.
It was at this point that a hand suddenly blocked the attack.
Made out of pure, ethereal gold, this hand manifested out of nowhere and stopped the attack from hitting Michael.
"WHAT?! WHO... WHO ARE YOU?!’
More of the golden hand manifested as an ethereal ghost above Michael. Then, a smile curved on its face. "I am Harbinger. The Conqueror of all Divas. The Progenitor of Aubility. The Beginning and the End."
Worcester’s jaw unhinged as he stared at the ethereal ghost watching over Michael. No words could come out of his mouth. He was far too stunned and surprised to even say something else.
After all, he couldn’t believe what he had just heard.
Harbinger... this was Michael’s Diva.
And yet, this Diva talked! That was not possible! Divas could not talk! They were inanimate reflections of a Maugnetic’s talent. There was no way that they had their own consciousness nor their own will.
But clearly, Michael wasn’t even aware of this figure right in front of him. So, he couldn’t have caused his Diva to appear and make it seem like it was ’talking’.
Despite all of this, Worcester felt something in his heart. It was an instinctual fear. Something that came from his very bones itself.
Somehow, he felt as if this Diva was telling the truth. And this frightened Worcester completely.
But even with this fear in his heart, Worcester ended up becoming consumed by his own curiosity. He decided to look up at this Diva who called itself Harbinger. Then, he looked at its face.
An audible gasp came out of Worcester, before his eyes began to burn. He couldn’t take it.
