Chapter 1467: Reason
Chapter 1467: Reason
Meanwhile, all across the Elite Society, the subject of the day was once again the Reborn company.
At first, everyone was still talking about the Racing Circuit event. It had made a good impression on a lot of people. Not just because of the scandalous thing that happened. But because it had opened the eyes of everyone about why the Reborn company had grown so fast.
Many of them were enamored with the Rebornian products, like the air conditioning units and the lavatories.
The Conglomerates, on the other hand, were less than thrilled. After all, they were seeing the emergence of a completely new opponent. One that they had no answer for.
"The Reborn company is strong. They have carved themselves an entirely new market," said someone from a higher up in a Conglomerate.
"And they have shown that if we try to copy them, we will always be treated as an inferior copy."
"We can’t stop their momentum. But we can sure as hell make sure that they can’t intrude on our territories. Let us continue to increase our grip on our people. Make sure that they’re loyalty only comes to us."
Many of them were starting to now consider Reborn as a true opponent.
After all, he had just defeated Worcester, the 1st ranked heir of the Oscorpe Conglomerate.
If that didn’t send a signal to the other heirs of the Conglomerate, then they were blind.
This meant that Reborn was actually capable of fighting them. As to how, they did not know.
"Do we have any info on their war with the Worcester company?"
"How can this be? Worcester deployed everything in his repertoire towards the Rebornian Territories. And yet, none of them had fallen?! That does not make sense."
"True enough... without Michael, they have no other Nascent Spirit cultivator to help them fight against that power."
Eventually, the news of Lucy eventually reached their ears.
"So those old mystic bastards were the ones in charge of this whole thing..."
"I knew it was suspicious from the start. Lucy had been campaigning for this from the very start. Of course he’s going to be doing this to boost his own reputation."
"But... I don’t know if the Reborn company is smart or just plain old stupid. They’re basically waging war on the Guild of Arcana at this point!"
The Conglomerates knew that by Reborn releasing these files onto the public, they would be putting the Guild of Arcana in the spotlight. And with the loss of magic, the Guild’s reputation wasn’t that great to begin with.
This would simply just be the final nail in the coffin to make the Guild of Arcana as a bygone organization that was soon to disappear.
And because of that, they might be more inclined to exact revenge against the Reborn company who started their downfall even further.
"No, the Guild of Arcana is much more shrewd than that. If they attack Reborn now, they would just be proving them right."
"Those old geezers don’t like to fight out in the open. They’ll lay low for now. And when the Reborn company least expects it, they’ll deal them a blow."
"They are going to let the news pass, make everyone forget everything first."
...
...
...
Michael waited patiently in his office. He tapped his foot nervously on the ground. Then, a few seconds later, a Shadow Orc immediately appeared right in front of him and kneeled.
"BU TO TO! I have come to report, sir!"
"What is it?"
"He has come, just as you said he would, sir."
The Shadow Orc showed him an image of the vast desert of the Parched Lands. On the horizon, there was a small disturbance in the air. It wasn’t long before that small thing, turned bigger and bigger, until a person emerged.
Lucy came to the Nation of Reborn, hair flying in the air, as he looked down at the territory with disdain.
"Come out," he demanded.
Michael saw this and smiled. He took the bait!
He turned into a shadow and teleported above the Nation of Reborn, looking at Lucy face to face.
"You bastard."
Michael smiled. "No introductions? No hello?"
"Niceities went out the way when you threw my reputation on the ground."
"You did that all on your own," Michael replied. "You were willing to endanger people just because you wanted to gain a reputation for the Guild of Arcana."
Lucy sneered at Michael. "You know nothing."
"So? What have you come here for? Are you here to exact revenge against me? Destroy the nation that destroyed your reputation?"
It was at this point that Lucy staggered for a brief second. After all, in his hotheadedness, he had no plans when he arrived here.
In his mind, he did want to destroy Reborn. But now that Michael had said that, Lucy began to remember his responsibilities as a Mystic Master. Destroying Reborn would only destroy his and the Guild’s reputation even further.
Then, Lucy remembered something. "Do you know why the Guild of Arcana blocked you from accessing the secret library?"
Michael’s eyebrows raised.
"Of course we knew about your attempts at getting the Mystic Masters’ emblems. And we could have easily given you that permission so that we could have built a good relationship with your company," Lucy said. "But we didn’t. Do you know why?"
Michael didn’t speak. He didn’t know why.
"It’s not because of you," Lucy snickered. "It’s because of your mentor. Seberus Augindore. My peers hate that old geezer. They believe that he should have retired long ago.
And since he had endorsed you, it’s only natural that we tried to block it. It’s nothing personal."
Hearing this, Michael couldn’t help but frown. That was the reason? Pettiness? They were petty against Seberus, and because of that, they denied his student access to the library?
That was it?
Michael always thought that there was a much more honorable reason. Something about the sanctity of the library or something. But as it turned out, the reason was way below that!
