Chapter 1255: Confirmation
Chapter 1255: Chapter 1255: Confirmation
Qi Xuemei entered the yard and saw her brother-in-law sitting there shelling corn.
Zhao Qingxiang looked at his sister-in-law who had come in and was a bit stunned; she rarely came by.
"Big brother, where’s my sister-in-law?"
"She’s lying inside, go on in and find her."
Qi Xuemei went inside and saw her cousin lying on the kang.
"What’s happened to you?" Sun Yun saw Qi Xuemei come in with red eyes.
"Cousin, Zhao Qingjie wants to go back. He says I don’t have to return. He’s leaving with the two kids, he insists on leaving."
"Then just follow him over."
"You make it sound easy. It’s so far away; I might not be able to return in my lifetime."
Sun Yun remained lying down, not wanting to deal with Qi Xuemei, who was just coming to her house.
"There’s no way to stop him from going back. If you still want to be together, you can only go with him."
"Why can’t they arrange a job for me?"
"Is it that you don’t want to leave here, or because you don’t have a job? Who owes you? Arrange a job for you? What do you know how to do?"
After Sun Yun spoke, Qi Xuemei was enraged and embarrassed.
"What’s wrong with wanting a job?"
"Then go find a job yourself. Do whatever you want, just don’t act crazy here with me."
"You’re just enjoying the drama. Now you get to stay here. I, however, have to go and live so far away, in a place I’m completely unfamiliar with."
Sun Yun understood Qi Xuemei’s meaning. She was angry at herself for not being able to leave. It really left Sun Yun speechless. Once she figured it out, she didn’t respond to her anymore, even when she spoke.
Qi Xuemei saw her cousin not talking and felt quite bored, angrily sat down on the kang.
The happiest one was Zhao Tian. He had already packed his luggage, just waiting to receive the wages from the farm along with the money from growing medicinal herbs this time.
Qi Xuemei sat there until evening, even when Zhao Qingxiang started cooking, she didn’t leave.
Sun Yun couldn’t sleep with her there but didn’t want to engage with her. The two just stayed like that, one lying, one sitting.
Dinner was ready, corn porridge cooked by Zhao Qingxiang, along with leftover pancakes from lunch.
Qi Xuemei still hadn’t left. "Are you planning to stay at my house now?"
Qi Xuemei didn’t respond, just sat there blankly.
"Have dinner, and then quickly leave."
"I want to stay here; I have nowhere to go."
"Why are you staying at my house?"
"Are you really not going to take me in? Are you just going to watch as I have nowhere to go?"
Sun Yun really had no choice now. "Hurry up and eat."
After dinner, Zhao Qingxiang cleaned up and then went to find Zhao Qingjie.
Why was his sister-in-law staying at his own home out of anger?
When he arrived, the three of them were having dinner, also corn porridge.
"Qi Xuemei’s at my house. After dinner, go see her."
"Got it." He thought she had gone back to her parents’ home. Didn’t expect her to go to his brother’s house instead.
"Hold on for a moment, eldest." Zhao Tian stopped his eldest son.
Seeing the eldest son sit down, Zhao Tian continued, "Second, we’re going back together, and you’re not going back?"
Zhao Qingxiang shook his head, "Dad, I’m not going back. I want to make money here for a few years."
"What about when you’re old and unable to work?"
"By that time, the two of us will still have food."
"If you go back to work, there will be social security in the future."
"Dad, my current situation barely covers the edge of the bowl. Why think of the future now? I have four kids, and they all need an education.
That requires quite a bit of money. Going back, I simply can’t afford it."
Now Zhao Tian went silent. He couldn’t reason with the eldest; deep down, he wanted the eldest to return.
He understood that relying on the second was impossible; the eldest was the real hope, but the eldest wouldn’t return.
Listening to his brother, Zhao Qingjie recognized the sense in it. But he’s not willing to sacrifice much for the children.
He’d rather set himself up first, rather than worry about future life when he’s old.
Zhao Qingjie went with Zhao Qingxiang to visit.
Qi Xuemei was still sitting on the kang. Seeing Zhao Qingjie come in, tears fell again.
Sun Yun was really annoyed; why cry at her place?
But since she came here, it was best to resolve it quickly and have them leave.
"Now you two need to talk. This won’t work. Either stay or leave, decide for yourselves."
Qi Xuemei looked pitifully at Zhao Qingjie. "I really don’t want to leave. If I go back, there’s no job for me. Relying solely on your salary isn’t feasible."
Zhao Qingjie was someone who responded better to softness than hardness, and Qi Xuemei didn’t criticize or complain, which made him less rigid.
"Going back is a definite, and as for what you said, I won’t think about it anymore. I need to leave myself a way out."
Zhao Qingjie knew his responsibility towards his father—that sacrificing for the old over the kids was impossible. But he wouldn’t become a beast of burden for the kids either.
Now Qi Xuemei understood returning was a must.
"Qingjie, could you also arrange a job for me? I don’t want to farm."
Zhao Qingjie shook his head, "I can’t help. Even if Su Yuanyuan were here, she couldn’t arrange it.
Among her good acquaintances, I know only Yang Xue has a job; the rest of the women don’t.
Our relationship with her is average. She won’t bother."
Qi Xuemei was completely disheartened now, sitting dumbly aside, realizing she had to leave.
Zhao Qingjie stood up, "Let’s go, let’s go back."
Lowering her head, Qi Xuemei stood and followed Zhao Qingjie out.
Zhao Qingxiang handed water to his wife, "Wash your feet."
"Qingxiang, let’s both work a bit harder. When we’re old, the kids won’t abandon us."
Zhao Qingxiang smiled, "Xiao Yun, don’t worry too much. Dad talked to me too; I’m not thinking about the future now. With so many responsibilities, I’m not in a position to consider the future."
"Right, we have four kids to raise."
A few days later, the subsidy for medicinal herbs from the headquarters was released.
Zhao Qingjie found Feng Baoshan. Here naturally wouldn’t hinder them and was still willing to treat the Zhao family kindly.
Zhao Qingjie and his wife received their departure papers; not a penny of their wages was missing. Zhao Tian’s papers were even simpler. He had no land, no wages, just needed a stamp.
Zhao Qingjie completed all the procedures; he’s no longer a farm worker.
Zhao Tian called over Zhao Xiaojing and his wife and the eldest son and his wife.
They wanted to take their wife’s ashes with them when they left.
Xu Hongbing hadn’t expected the second brother-in-law to really leave. He thought he might return to the land he’d worked before by the eldest brother-in-law’s side for future support.
Moreover, he knew Feng Baoshan was leaving the farm. Best to arrange things while he’s still around; who knows if they’ll get along with the new leader.
Zhao Tian was eager to leave now, urging his sons to quickly retrieve the ashes.
