Chapter 1256: Preparations
Chapter 1256: Chapter 1256: Preparations
Zhao Qingjie thought for a moment, "Dad, it will take a few more days before we can leave; we still need two days to pack up the house."
Zhao Tian was anxious, "Then hurry up. Let’s get back as soon as possible."
Zhao Qingjie had been packing for two days, choosing the better tools and goods to take with him, and some of the remaining items Qi Xue Mei had taken back to her family home.
Zhao Qingxiang and Sun Yun didn’t think much of it; they never intended to take advantage. Even if he offered, they considered converting it to money for him. It would be better if he didn’t; Sun Yun didn’t want any junk.
Zhao Xiaojing was unhappy. Why wasn’t anything given to her? So, while the Second Brother was packing, she dragged Xu Hongbing home. If his mind was filled with his in-laws, then let them come and help.
Zhao Tian had no energy to manage these matters; they could do as they pleased as long as they left quickly. He was restless and didn’t want to stay there any longer.
They couldn’t leave directly; they needed to pick up Zhixue.
After three days, Zhao Qingjie had packed everything.
But there was still quite a bit of luggage, so he went to find Xu Hongbing to go with them to see them off.
Xu Hongbing had no objections and agreed readily, but Zhao Xiaojing was unwilling.
"Second Brother, why didn’t your brothers-in-law come to see you off?"
Zhao Qingjie then realized, "We don’t need them."
"Yes, it’s not a big deal."
"Your Second Sister-in-law is going back home; she might not come back in this lifetime. If she wants to give her family something, let her."
Xu Hongbing pulled Zhao Xiaojing aside, saying that even if those broken things were given, they didn’t want them.
On the way back, Zhao Qingjie also thought about how he overlooked this, not leaving anything for Big Brother and Little Sister. Oh well. The remaining things would be needed later.
They had to leave by tomorrow. Zhao Qingxiang asked them over for a meal today, including Zhao Xiaojing’s family, of course.
Sun Yun wasn’t a petty person; since the father-in-law was leaving, they wouldn’t need to worry anymore. She wasn’t cheap when offering a meal, killing a chicken and making fish stew.
Zhao Qingxiang stoked the fire, "Xiao Yun, Dad is leaving; can we give Dad a hundred yuan? We won’t be able to look after him in the future." After saying this, he sighed.
Sun Yun really felt reluctant to part with a hundred yuan. How would one earn that money? Besides, the father-in-law wasn’t without money. Why give it, then? So she stayed silent.
Zhao Qingxiang understood that his wife was unwilling.
"Xiao Yun, we might not return for ten or eight years; after all, he’s the father who raised me."
"Fine, do as you like. I don’t know other things, but how long will this hundred yuan last for me?"
Zhao Qingxiang knew too, but he couldn’t get past this psychological hurdle.
Both families gathered for the meal.
Zhao Qingjie still pulled out a hundred yuan, "Dad, keep this money. We will be far apart in the future, and it’s unpredictable when we’ll meet again."
Zhao Tian sighed, "Yes, even if I die, you might not be able to see me."
He didn’t refuse and put it away directly.
Zhao Xiaojing also took out twenty yuan, "Dad, our life isn’t as good as Big Brother’s. I can only give this much, use it to buy yourself some good food."
Zhao Tian didn’t expect the second daughter to give money. Though it’s little, it was given nonetheless.
"Okay, actually you both should consider that our area is still better. You can earn a few years’ money here, but who knows about the future?
If things don’t go well here, you should come back. Now Yuanyuan can still help with arranging a job."
The siblings both nodded, agreeing with whatever the elder said, avoiding any stubbornness.
The lunch was very satisfying, with fish, meat, and egg custard; Sun Yun truly wasn’t stingy.
In the afternoon, the six of them went to fetch An Lixia’s ashes, which they placed in the courtyard upon returning.
Zhao Tian looked at the urn; his wife used to be warm and alive by his side. Now, there was only this small urn left.
He cleaned the outside, then wrapped it in cloth. He intended to take his wife back home.
Qi Xue Mei’s belongings were also packed. She hadn’t spoken for days; everyone knew she was in a bad mood, and no one bothered her.
They had another meal at Zhao Qingxiang’s house in the evening. After eating, they were about to leave.
Finally, Zhao Tian got onto the vehicle heading back; he had mixed feelings, reminiscing about everything since the children came.
He wasn’t leaving successfully, but thinking about going back comforted him.
Although he no longer had his spouse, there were still familiar people. Back in the village, there would be someone to chat with, unlike here, where sometimes he didn’t speak a word all day.
Two donkey carts arrived in the city the following afternoon.
Zhao Qingjie went to buy train tickets. There were no trains for another three hours, which was actually pretty good. They were heading to L City today, but if they planned to return, it would be best to wait two more days for tickets.
Zhao Tian told his son and son-in-law to leave after seeing them onto the train.
"Eldest, go call Xiao Li and tell her the time so they can meet us at the train station."
Zhao Qingxiang went to make the call, and Zhao Qingjie went along. He directly called his little sister.
Zhao Yanli heard that Dad and Second Brother’s family were coming.
"Big Brother, I got it. I’ll come to pick you up."
Zhao Qingjie took the phone. "Xiao Li, help Zhixue withdraw from school. Also, go check at the train station to see when there are outgoing trains."
Zhao Yanli had no objections, "Okay, I got it. I’ll handle it."
After work, she went to her elder sister’s house, and the two sisters went to gather the kids.
Zhixue was very downcast upon hearing he had to leave. He didn’t want to go.
He had a feeling that once he returned, he might not be able to attend school anymore.
"Aunt, Aunt, can I not leave?"
The two sisters were also in a bad mood and didn’t know how to console Zhixue—he was too far away.
"Zhixue, there are schools back home too."
"Though it’s far, you must persist."
Zhixue started crying; he really didn’t want to leave.
Xiao Ling and the others watched from the side, not knowing how to comfort him.
"Aunt, Aunt, don’t process my withdrawal just yet. I want to wait for my parents to discuss whether I have to go back."
The two sisters nodded, agreeing to the child’s request.
Zhao Qingxiang and Xu Hongbing sent them off on the train; they had too much luggage, plus with Zhixue, there were human traffickers and thieves on the train, so they warned several times.
After sending them off, neither of them rested and hurried back home. Zhao Qingxiang was worried about his pregnant wife.
On the train, Zhao Tian held onto his wife’s urn, indifferent to everything else, which greatly angered Qi Xue Mei. She resentfully thought that she would no longer serve him in the future. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
