Chapter 301: Driving The Beast
Adam feels the engine’s power travel through the steering wheel into his arm as it rumbles in the patient.
He looks at the badge on the steering wheel. It’s a sleek-looking N that’s shaped like an infinity sign.
N of course stands for the company’s name, Nexara Stratosurge.
Adam never thought he would drive such a car in his entire lifetime. He remembered that this car set multiple speed records at its launch.
So, to drive this beast is definitely going to be fun.
Watching the speed gauge light up and display the 500+ number showed him physical proof of what this car is able to do.
Taking in the feeling, Adam turns to look at Danny, who has been waiting for Adam to say something.
"Come on, get it, let’s see how this thing handles," Adam says.
Hearing Adam’s words, Danny gets excited and quickly enters the car.
Closing the doors, Adam puts the car in drive and begins slowly rolling it out.
"Dude, I am very excited to see what this beast can do," Danny says with sparkles in his eyes.
Hearing his words, Adam looks at Danny, confused. "Haven’t you driven it?" Adam asks.
"Barely... I got too anxious to drive this thing, so I only drove it twice since I got it," Danny says.
Adam nods his head. Compared to the blue supercar that Adam saw Danny drive during their very first meeting, this one is a completely different beast; on top of that, it’s six times more expensive than the one Danny drove in at the movie theater.
Rolling out of the hangar, Adam follows the path towards the mansion before circling it to enter the main driveway, where he sees his own car parked behind the luxury sedan.
Now that he looks at the sedan once again, Adam wonders who this sedan belongs to if most of the cars that are owned by the Coronants are in the hangar.
But Adam doesn’t bother questioning it; instead, he continues to roll down the driveway before stopping in front of the gate, waiting for it to be open.
Danny puts his head out through the window and signals the guards to open the gate faster, making them rush to it.
"As soon as we cross the gate, you need to rip it," Danny says, eagerly shaking with excitement. Adam gives him a nodding smirk as he lets the car roll out through the gate, a few meters away from the gate. Adam firms his grip on the steering wheel and presses on the accelerator.
The moment he does that, both of them sitting in the car feel it. The wheels of the car spin faster, its ability to grip onto the road’s surface, causing it to burn out a little before finally catching on and zooming straight through.
The g-force of the acceleration pushes both Adam and Danny against the seats as the engine roars and the exhaust spits fire.
"WHOOOOOO!" Danny lets out a cheerful woo as he watches everything fly past him as the car picks up even more speed, already reaching the 100kmph speed mark.
Adam, on the other hand, is much calmer because even at this speed, his eyes, hands, and legs are able to keep up with ease.
His mind is already able to calculate the distance, the speed, and what he needs to do to keep this beast under control.
The car continues to pick up speed, applying more g-force onto Adam and Danny, but Adam remains calm as everything is within his control.
It doesn’t take long before they start getting close to the intersection that leads to the highway. Seeing the intersection approaching them so fast, Danny starts panicking a little as that feeling you expect of the car slowing down doesn’t hit him.
He turns to look at Adam, and to warn him about slowing down, but he sees a confident smirk on Adam’s face as if he knows what he is doing. Seeing this, the words that Danny wanted to speak get stuck in his throat.
Only as the intersection gets dangerously close does Danny feel the sudden slowing down of the car, but it only takes a moment for him to realize that Adam didn’t hit the brakes to slow down the car. No. He is trying to drift the car onto the highway and cut through the traffic.
Danny’s eyes widen as he grabs onto whatever he can hold as tightly as possible as he watches the cars zooming through the highway get freakishly close.
The sound of the car’s rubber screeching hits his ear as he feels the back of the car start to spin out faster than the front of the car.
He watches Adam twist the steering wheel on the opposite side of the turn.
And before he knows it, he sees the car seamlessly cut through the gaps between the cars on the highway and accelerate out of it like it was supposed to happen the way Adam intended.
He watches Adam shift the gear and hit the accelerator again, hearing the engine roar even louder as the car shifts into a higher gear and the acceleration picks up even more. Danny feels a jolt as the car begins moving even faster.
He watches with wide eyes as the rpm gauge constantly gets close to the red line before every shift, and the shifts themselves are smooth like butter, showing Danny just how good Adam really is.
The panic he was feeling is immediately replaced with excitement as he sees the speed gauge rise higher and higher as Adam pushes this car to its limit.
Looking through the windshield, Danny feels as if he has entered a hyperspace wormhole because everything is zooming past them in a blur.
In the distance, Danny sees a police patrol car driving in the same direction as them, but Adam’s driving so fast that in a second, they are already behind the patrol car before zooming past it.
Danny turns his head to look in the mirror to see if the police are going to chase after them or not, only to find the reflection of the police car so far behind that he only sees a glimpse of the patrol car’s light flash before it disappears from his vision.
Adam drove past a police car and lost it within seconds as he continued to weave through the traffic at super high speeds.
"Haha..." Danny lets out an excited, nervous laugh as beads of sweat start forming on his forehead, but then he is overwhelmed with excitement.
"DUDE!! FUCK!!! WHOOOHOOOOOOOO!" He pumps his fist in the air, cheering from the thrill and excitement he is feeling from moving so fast.
Watching Adam effortlessly handle this beast of a car showed Danny that Adam wasn’t bluffing when he said he was really good at driving and would win the race. Now his excitement to watch the real thing happen before his very eyes is even higher.
"There’s a racing track close by, right?" Adam asks.
"Yes, the Eylendra Apex circuit!" Danny says.
"Let’s go there and push this beast to its limit," Adam says
Hearing Adam’s words, Danny also gets excited. He has been there a few times as he has taken a few of his supercars to test himself, but being a novice driver, he couldn’t do much there other than watch people with slower cars drive past him because they were better drivers.
But now that Adam is the one driving it, he wants to see just how good his car can do.
"Do you think you can compete with the top ten times set on the circuit?" Danny asks.
Adam is surprised by Danny’s question, but as he gives it some thought, he realizes that it won’t be hard for him to do so.
"With some proper set of racing tires, sure," Adam says.
After all, it’s all in the tires.
"On it!" Danny says, and suddenly pulls out his phone and calls someone.
Adam sees what Danny’s going to do and gets confused. ’What does he mean by on it?’ Adam wonders.
"What are you doing?" Adam asks.
"Getting a team ready for those racing tires," Danny says.
Adam is stunned by Danny’s answer.
’You can do that?’ Adam wonders when Danny starts speaking into the phone.
"Yes, Uncle Ben, I need a few professionals at the Eylendra Apex circuit -" Danny begins speaking to some guy he calls Uncle Ben.
Adam doesn’t have any idea who this Uncle Ben is, but from the sounds of it, the man is clearly capable of arranging a group of racing professionals to work on Danny’s car and those speed tires.
A few minutes later, the call ends, and Danny looks at Adam with a big grin on his face.
"I have a team ready for you at the circuit," He says.
"You serious?" Adam asks, surprised.
"Deathly!" Danny says.
"You really want me to set a top ten timing in the Eylendra Apex circuit?" Adam asks.
"You need to at least give it a try. You know how rare it is to own a car that holds a time record in the Eylendra Apex Circuit? If you manage to do it, I can brag to the world that I have a car that personally set a top-ten time record at the Eylendra Circuit, known as one of the toughest circuits in the world. Imagine all the envy and jealousy people will direct at me when they find out," Danny says.
Adam’s really surprised by the trust Danny has in him and his ability to set a record in the world-famous circuit, after all, he has only known Adam for a few hours.
But his trust is not misplaced. Since Danny trusts him so much, Adam decides to give Danny what he wants.
