Chapter 1958: End of Tritus
Chapter 1958: End of Tritus
The energy surrounding Jun’Tal continued to build even as Tritus weakened beneath the System’s Link. Ning could feel the amount increasing at such an absurd rate that the trembling beneath the small Bronverian town was no longer limited to occasional earthquakes. The ground now shook continuously while cracks spread across the nearby fields and the enormous portal behind Tritus widened further with every passing second.
More creatures had begun crossing through.
The first few demons flew out cautiously, enormous winged figures covered in dark scales and armor that appeared to have been forged from black metal, while dozens more gathered behind them on the other side of the portal, waiting for enough space to open before entering Hyrron in greater numbers.
Ning barely looked at them.
The demons were a problem, but they were not the immediate problem.
Jun’Tal was.
The boy remained unconscious on the ground while the energy produced through his ability continued accumulating around him, and Ning understood that if the entirety of what had gathered was suddenly released into the surrounding world, there would be very little left of the region around this place, and the fallout from it would lead the world to an apocalyptic scenario.
Tritus noticed where Ning was looking.
Despite the energy continuously being drained from him through the Link, the Constellation laughed.
"There is nothing you can do now, because the boy has already produced more energy than his body can contain, and whether you kill me or not, everything gathered around him will be released once the process finishes."
Ning slowly turned toward Tritus and smiled.
"You really don’t know what I am, do you?"
Tritus frowned. He couldn’t understand what Ning meant at all.
The energy around the boy had become visible now.
White light twisted around his body in violent waves, each one carrying enough power that the soil beneath him was burning away while the air itself distorted from the amount of energy being contained in such a small area.
Ning crouched beside him.
Tritus stood straighter. "What are you trying to do?"
Ning grabbed Jun’Tal and pulled the unconscious boy against his body, wrapping both arms around him until there was no space left between them.
The erupting energy tore away at Ning’s clothes, destroying the clothes he wore.
"What are you doing?" Tritus demanded, but Ning did not answer.
The accumulated energy reached its limit, and then it exploded.
White light swallowed everything.
The ground disappeared beneath it.
The approaching demons vanished from sight.
Even the enormous portal became impossible to see as the release engulfed the entire area with enough energy to turn what should have been a catastrophic explosion into something beyond the ability of ordinary people to comprehend.
And then, the light disappeared, and the scene returned to how it was a moment earlier.
Jun’Tal remained unconscious in Ning’s arms, with not a single trace of the released energy escaping.
Ning blinked as a notification appeared before him.
<12.2 Septillion Energy received>
That was more energy than many Planetary Wills ever possessed at one time, and even weaker Constellations could struggle for immense periods to gather that much energy for themselves.
Jun’Tal had produced it.
One unconscious child had generated more energy within a short period than Ning could get from Planetary Wills. Even weaker Celestial Wills would struggle to produce that much energy.
Ning looked down at the boy.
"That is ridiculous."
The boy looked thinner now, dehydrated even. Though, that made sense.
"How?" Tritus asked.
Ning looked toward him.
"How did you nullify all of that?"
Ning slowly stood while keeping Jun’Tal supported in one arm.
"I already told you that you didn’t understand what I was. I’m not an ordinary being. I’m energy itself," he answered. "Though I have some restrictions and can’t absorb this much energy at once. Only, there is a certain moment when I have no limit. And that is when I’m killing one of you."
Tritus’s squid eyes widened in pure horror.
"System, you may continue."
Ning had asked the System earlier to pause absorbing Tritus until he was done with Jun’Tal. That had been what allowed Ning to absorb it all.
Tritus gave up entirely upon hearing that. His body immediately began fading slowly.
He thought of moving away, but at this point, he was too weak to even do so. Considering the man before him had been the same as the one who had killed Meghilars, he couldn’t see what he could do to run away.
His body became transparent as the last vestiges of his power were stripped away from him.
The portal behind him flickered as the power sustaining it weakened.
Within seconds, Tritus was barely visible.
Ning watched without sympathy.
The Constellation had manipulated entire nations, created the Numbers, used people as disposable tools, targeted children, and nearly unleashed enough energy to devastate a country merely to open a path between worlds.
Ning had nothing more to say to him.
Tritus disappeared.
The Constellation was gone.
Throughout the world, people who had been in a coma the entire time woke up one after another. Some woke up from dreams where they were the hero of a story. Others woke up from dreams where they were nobodies, watching over the hero of a story.
Someone even woke up from a dream where they lived a life inside of the world they themselves had created.
Everyone who woke up felt they had gained something, and at the same time, they felt they had lost something.
Ning turned toward the portal finally, which had shrunk but hadn’t yet fully closed. It appeared that Jun’Tal still had a connection to the portal.
Ning could end that connection, but several dozen of them had already crossed into this world, while many more crowded the demonic world beyond, apparently unaware that the being who had opened the way for them had just ceased to exist.
The largest of the demons landed ahead of the others.
He was several meters tall, with broad black wings, thick curved horns, and armor covering most of his enormous body, while a weapon resembling a massive hammer axe rested in one hand.
Then he spoke out loud.
"This world shall tremble under the hammer of Gazakthar!"
